 Shivan fighters aren't supposed to live? Without their missiles and only their default Shivan lasers, I seriously don't think that they would last a minute without it.

It appears that you are talking about Shivans and support ships.  It seems like Shivans rely more on sheer numbers than on tactics (like support).  Most of the time, Shivan fighters are dead before they run out of missiles even though the AI seems to like to use missiles quite liberally.  Most Shivan Fighters don't have too small secondary banks also.

perhaps they just have a preference for guns. even when you are out of missiles you always have guns to do the job. shivans might pride themselves on their marksmanship, only using missiles as their orders demand.

Did you fail that mission? Because I have a feeling that the Centaur was trying to capture a Dragon fighter in one of the FS1 missions...

Shivans have always relied on outnumbering the GTVA ir whatever it is facing. Shivans seem less scared to die than Terrans and Vasudans. Also, I doubt the leaders of the Shivan Armada have to worry about Terran/Vasudan rights so it doesn't matter how many die
