Hey folks, been some time since you last saw one of these, huh?
Things have been going slowly the past couple of months, but I'd like to inform you that we weren't completely idle.
The wxFred team has expanded to include niffiwan and Nami (IRC screen name: mirakus) to help with the build process on *nix machines, and Nami has been helping out with the backend R&D. Please be sure to give them both a warm welcome during these cold winter months.
Up until now, wxFred has been isolated from the rest of the FSO codebase. We had originally wanted to integrate bits and pieces of the codebase at a time, so as to clamp down on potential errors, but it appears that the entire set had to be linked in for something as simple as setting the Mission_filename cstring. Some header wrangling, lib roundups, and general headdesking later, wxFred is now ready for some serious coding. RL permitting, we should be able to get a mission into wxFred by the end of the year and allow some simple editing and creation. Exciting!
Courtesy of the SCP, we now have a dedicated
wxfred2 branch on GitHub! Developers are welcome.
Closing out, I'd like to thank everyone again for their continued patience and support. Happy Thanksgiving!
