Title: Inferno Problem
Post by: Marcov on May 20, 2010, 08:38:08 am
So I've recently downloaded Inferno. I put a folder for Inferno, then use it as a mod via the launcher. I open FreeSpace 2.

Then DOZENS of error messages come up, such as:

Error: weapons.tbl(line 512:
Error: Required token = [#End] or [$Name:], found [@Laser Glow: 2_laserglow03]
in weapon: GTVA Rapid Laser
.

File: PARSELO.CPP
Line: 670

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

I've included the log, if it does any help.

Thanks again for your assistance.

That's not the log from when you played Inferno.

However, your problems with Inferno can be summed up in one, simple statement:
Inferno is old and hasn't been maintained in ages. Depending on which version of Inferno you are talking about, it may have been built for FS2 retail. If you really want to play it on newer builds, you're going to have to invest the time to bugfix it first.

Of course, it would be nice if the Inferno team (such as it is) could be bothered to fix these issues or release something new. Or make a statement about how the work is progressing. Or show any sign of activity, really.

Are you using an Inferno build?

And an SCP path, you also need it.
It fixes a few issues.

That stands for devIL, which along with ilu.dll and ilut.dll haven't been required since the early 3.6 era of SCP. :)

debug log?

Your "Root_fs2.vp" file seems to be corrupt.  I do not have the checksums for Inferno itself, so you should check the site/thread you downloaded it from to make sure you have the correct checksum.

Don't know of it is corrupt, or just not the 1.2 root vp. Please get it from this package: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/Downloads/HotUv1.20Pack.rar

I've downloaded it, but still, nothing works  :sigh:

I remeber I downloaded Inferno R1 from FreeSpace wiki. The main Inferno site which allows you to download Inferno R1 leads to FilePlanet, which asks you to register. Say no, and you go to FilePlanet's main page, and Inferno is nowhere to be found.

What's wrong with this? I got Inferno before and it worked perfectly fine.

What specifically is not working? Did you unrar the download and copy the files inside the download to your FS2 folder?  That is, what did you do with file after you downloaded it?  In any case, you need to run the debug build again and post the new log.

We need details. We cannot read you mind. We need to know exactly what "nothing works" means.

Wait, I tried it without FSO, and it worked.

But I wouldn't want it without FSO, so I go to the offical site and attempt to download the Inferno SCP. This leads me to FilePlanet. FilePlanet asks me to subscribe, I say no, it goes to the homepage, and Inferno is nowhere to be found.

What now?

http://freespacemods.net/ , more specifically http://freespacemods.net/download.php?list.6 , and even more specifically http://freespacemods.net/download.php?view.353 .

http://freespacemods.net/ , more specifically http://freespacemods.net/download.php?list.6 , and even more specifically http://freespacemods.net/download.php?view.353 .

Whenever I try to download, it downloads a file called "no", which appears and says "Please do not directly hotlink to files fsmods.net! Instead, link to the file's description page. Thanks :)"

What does this exactly mean??

This means FSMods may be glitching up.

Worked fine two minutes ago. Used Opera. Can test with other browsers if necessary.

Er....does this mean I can't download anything on FSMods now?

What browser did you use? Did you try refreshing the page? Did you try with any other browser? As I said, I tried with Opera (10.53) and the download link worked fine. And just now I also tried with Firefox (3.6) , Chrome (5) and IE (8). They all were able to download the file from FreeSpaceMods.

I'm actually using Internet Explorer 8.

Still, it doesn't work.

It downloads "patch" but suddenly changes to a file hilariously called "no".  :wtf:

Are you using a download manager? If so, try downloading it without the download manager.  Also, out of curiosity if you are using a download manager what is its name?

The only reason why it would be sending you that picture is because it thinks you are coming from a hot link, and unfortunately not all download managers send the HTTP referrer so that the server "knows" that you are not hot-linking.

Failing that, try downloading it in IE8 (No Add-Ons) (you can find the link for "No Add-Ons" mode in your start menu > Accessories > System Tools). Or go and download Firefox or Chrome and try it with them.

Actually, I'm using BitComet. Is it really that unreliable?

Honestly, I don't know about BitComet in particular, but as a torrent client it has (err, at least had) a reputation has being a very poor peer (ie. it wouldn't share nicely) when used for torrenting (to the point that a large number of trackers have completely block it).  That being said, as far as a HTTP downloader I have no idea, but I explained previously, not all download managers work correctly and can even be abusive to the server so that the server itself blocks the client.

So, unless you have that bad of connection that you cannot download 15 MBs using the built-in download manager of IE, I would just try it directly.  Otherwise, try a different free download manager (http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm) (this one I just tried in IE8, I know it works).

Thanks  :)

It worked with Free Download Manager.

One curious question: what does the Inferno Lucifer do in the campaign (given that it's significantly stronger than the original)? Or is it just a "supered" version of the old one to give the Lucy a more accurate stand in custom missions?

I don't know, as I have never played Inferno.  I would also suggest asking this question in a new thread (in this forum) because anyone that is qualified to answer would have given up on reading this thread long ago.
