Controller Configuration Guide (Windows 7)
zaxx_kredda:
well, i downloaded diaspora, cranked it up and after playing the first 5-6 missions and failing miserably due to sloppy mouse and keyboard controls, i decided to hook up my rumblepad and give it another shot...
well, none of the control mappings respond to the controller...
even went through and set up the controller as the preferred device, nothing changed, it still doesnt work in diaspora even though it is recognized by the launcher...
this is really irritating, makes me wonder if they really thought things out in windows seven before they released it...the only reason i went from vista to seven is because of the unresolved bugs in vista that caused a huge system failure and a complete wipe and reinstall, and now i regret upgrading
its causing more than just problems with controller recognition, it also means weird workarounds just to get a game to run (like forced compatibility) and i cant even change the TTS voice from microsoft anna either...
but anyway, is there a way to make this controller work at all? i would not be posting this if any of the listed suggestions even worked...
i also have installed the latest diaspora patch if that means anything...
EDIT:
YMMV, but what worked finally for me was to install the logitech drivers, and extract the xbox controller files into the game directory...now i can fly with the best of them, pitch and yaw work great...also dont forget to map the right stick, which is not mapped correctly initially...all i did was click on the default settings and that seemed to fix it to the rx axis...

Using a Saitek X45 dual joystick and can't get it to recognize the left hand throttle. I can't increase or decrease thrust with it. I don't want to have to reach over to press A/Z every time I want to change speed. Any suggestions on how to get it to recognize the throttle?

Also, noticing that there are a lot of commands to bind in this game... which are the truly necessary ones in-game?
Thanks in advance.

I had the 45 and the slider on the throttle was what worked, sorry cannot remember how I fixed it but bought the x52pro. All I did was remap the throttle ingame works fine.

Kind of an obvious question, but did you try to bind the absolute throttle axis to the actual throttle? I ask because I have a full HOTAS setup and never had an issue getting the throttle to work on my G940. It does need to be manually bound to the proper axis in-game though.
As for necessary commands, I'd say you need the basic ship controls (yaw/pitch/roll/throttle + full throttle key for tube launching), glide (there are two versions - glide toggle and glide while pressed - either will do, it depends on what you prefer), fire primaries, select and fire secondaries, countermeasures, and basic targeting controls (cycle through all targets, cycle through enemy targets, nearest hostile).
Not strictly necessary, but nice:
- escort list targeting (covered in the tutorials);
- thruster control (for sideways motion; up, down, left and right);
- padlock view (if not using something like trackIR - it locks your view to your current target);
- comms (easy enough to use and arguably in the necessary category, but it is possible to finish the game without using it; it can be quite helpful though).
- external view (default *) - not really for actual combat, but good for taking screenshots and goofing around :)
