How come when everyone says "There are no Shivans in BWO," it reminds me of "There are no US tanks in Baghdad,"?
Hmm. How awesome are you? :)

Why do you guys have some punk named Aidan Mallory instead of good old Alpha 1?
Why do you guys have some punk named Aidan Mallory instead of good old Alpha 1?Because as the joke goes...Alpha 1 always wins. We wanted to be a bit more mysterious with who wins and looses :)
How many new music tracks there is in BWO?BlackSheep, who we haven't heard from in a little while, has composed a title theme and a battle track. The battle track isn't quite finished because it doesn't have all of the interactive little bits. Hopefully we'll be able to track him down soon. The intention was for two new in-mission sound tracks and the theme (which is done and great!).

How much progress, in percentage, would you say you've made on BWO?

Why do fools fall in love?
Such information is classified under the Section 3 provisions and requires clearance from the GTVA Security Council and General Assembly.
Who was on the original staff? Was Kellan or any of the old folks around?Kellan, Agatheron, Bobboau, Dark, and myself were largely the original team. We've added and lost staff since then. I should note that Bobboau has been steadfast in sticking with us and he's a fantastic guy to have around! Raven, Ace, and BlackDove are the core of our current team and we have some additional members that help us out when we need it.
Will the terrans have a new juggernaught?
Why does the GTVA decide to be evil? The point of BWO is to point out that nobody is truly evil...there are shades of grey and you have to see which shade you want to be. Be that a lightish grey or one with a bit of a darker shade to it :D But turquoise is right out!
Can you release the campaign first and then release the voices later on as an optional patch and we can use voice synthesis in the meantime? That way we can get the campaign out sooner. Its a possibility. Given the size of the campaign and the number of lines of dialogue a whole other team would be needed to make the voice parts work.
Actually a correction:
48 missions total, only 32 are playable in each playthrough. (including playing the secret missions)
You should be able to do it with two playthroughs.
Question:
Which SCP came first? The SCP? Or the SCP?
Woo's better, karajorma or Goober5000?
Sol Coalition of Planets wins by I think one or two years :)
And why does the Golgotha only have 200k hitpoints? Guess I'm too used to having supercaps with hitpoints over 400k...The Golgotha is more of a specialized tool and less of a general weapon... i.e. It's a can opener, not a swiss army knife. (I think)
Do the SCP use GW-era craft, like the Leviathan?
And why does the Golgotha only have 200k hitpoints? Guess I'm too used to having supercaps with hitpoints over 400k...
'nother EDIT:
What's the Babel Effect (campaign)?
Does Admiral Kepler have a big part in BWO?;)
The Babel Effect was not released, nor will be.
The SCP use upgraded Great War era craft yes. You'll even see some old Apollos bolstering the ranks along with new ships most of which we haven't shown off. I am willing to point out that we have some great hack jobs to ships like the Leviathan with added weapons that have been retrofitted onto them.Woo's better, karajorma or Goober5000?

If the Golgotha is a specialized tool, why does it need: 6 beams, 4 AAAfs, 18 Blobs, 8 Flak guns? Its specialized and it compromises on things that other destroyers have like having large squadrons of ships (the Golgothas complement is much smaller) but it was designed to be a winner. So it can engage forward targets with its main beam weapon or switch over to broadside weaponry and it can fully defend itself from fighter attack essentially as well as any other destroyer. Because of the firing mechanism for the main beam cannon the Golgotha is still somewhat vulnerable in certain areas so it has its own fighter and bomber defense but its ideally meant to be a team player by working with other fleet destroyers to provide cover.
Will the GTVA be completely destroyed if you change sides?
Let's just say that armistice isn't necessarily involved in either of the possible endings ;)
Are we going to see about 20 stars go Supernova?

There are no red things in BWO.
I think it's RE technology.
Certain Shivan technologies may or may not be used by certain factions.
There are no Shivans in BWO.
that makes me think of "there are no tanks in bhagdad" for some reason...
are there tanks in BWO?
Is the GTD Golgotha the GTVA's ultimate weapon, or is there a bigger, badder, evil secret that the GTVA will unleash?
are there uberweapons in BWO? (think punisher cannon from INF)
are there uberweapons in BWO? (think punisher cannon from INF)
No.

No.
Golgotha.
That's the official line, but I notice that there are red things in this screenshot (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,38598.msg786097.html#msg786097). Four of them, in fact.
How many Golgothas(Golgothae?) are there?
One other question: The two big ships near the red beams...What classes of vessel are they? One of them has to be the Golgotha...
Me too.One other question: The two big ships near the red beams...What classes of vessel are they? One of them has to be the Golgotha...
They both look like Golgotha's to me.
1. Do any old, familiar ships appear? Such as the GTD Aeneas, GVD Toeris...?
2. Will choices to join the GTVA or the SCP be like "Press 1 to join SCP, Press 2 to stay with GTVA?"
3. Will we see any Saphah class vessels?
is there a campaign that comes before this in the storyline (besides main FS campaign, of course)? In other words, does this have a prequel? Also, will it have a sequel?
Derelict takes place before this campaign.
1. Do the SCP have any special things of their own?
2. Do the Fishes have any special things?
3. Is the Scion of Vasuda more than it seems, or is it really just a normal rebellion?

are the shivans even mentioned in BWO? (or did they all go to baghdad?)

I mean, is it more than the classical rebellion of BETAC haters that is defeated once Alpha 1 joins the fight?
2. There are a few tricks up their sleeves.
I mean take off and landing cutscenes in each mission. Are you using them?
I mean take off and landing cutscenes in each mission. Are you using them?
This isn't Wing Commander. BWO is not stylistically departing from previous FreeSpace games. There are a few missions that you launch from a fighterbay but generally the missions start as soon as you arrive using your intra-system subspace drive.
Do you want to have to watch a cutscene every single mission of launching and jumping out? Especially if it's a tough mission where you can die?
...ts the Aeolus and Mentu that get overworked during the campaign....Oh yes... :yes2::yes:
1) In-mission cutscenes mean a lot of eyecandy. That's something that should be taken in consideration, expecially if we're talking about a major FreeSpace project(in this case, Blackwater Operations);
2) In-game events are good, but they could be sorted in an exaggerate way. In Inferno R1, for example, there continuosly were important events. The result? In the EA-part of the campaign you fight more EA destroyers than cruisers. A bit unrealistic;
Let me make another point that I'm sure will resonate with most people here. The missions have already been scripted and finished minus a few tweaks not already found in testing. Going back again and adding even more features is a trap we previously fell into and we really want to finish BWO sometime this century.
BWO also has a very strong mix of ships. I'd say if anything, its the Aeolus and Mentu that get overworked during the campaign rather than the large destroyers. Not to say that we don't have them and thats of course ignoring the prototype Golgotha class but I think you'll find very FreeSpace style gameplay and balance of ships.
1) In-mission cutscenes mean a lot of eyecandy. That's something that should be taken in consideration, expecially if we're talking about a major FreeSpace project(in this case, Blackwater Operations);
... and a hell of work for any FREDer... doing a simple cutscene-mission takes about 3 times more time to get it straight and good looking than a standart mission;
y? - one, you have got to deal with a lot of scripted thing to happen you really have to tie up and two, you have to do music and camera scripting which takes a lot of time 'cause there is nothing to do but to try and to try and to try again
eyecandy is not everything (esspecially EC is player dependant) - and it can be create the usual way
2) In-game events are good, but they could be sorted in an exaggerate way. In Inferno R1, for example, there continuosly were important events. The result? In the EA-part of the campaign you fight more EA destroyers than cruisers. A bit unrealistic;
that says alot about how bad the story-to-FREDing transfer in the INFR1 worked (that is why INFR1 joined ITDOH into the campaign trashcan on my computer)
I'll inform you when this becomes a democracy. :p
Fight for glory! Fight for pride! Fight for a voice acted BWO!I'll inform you when this becomes a democracy. :p
I'll inform you when the revolution starts! :mad2:
There are no Shivans in Blackwater Operations.
They want a non-voice over release. Not sure that's what everybody meant. Another interpretation would be: are you releasing one big download, or one campaign pack plus one voice pack?
There will be one release, the full campaign with the voiceacting.
Now, for questions.
Now, for questions.
Ok, fine.
1) You guys said that you don't like reskins. So is the Hydra retired now? How can you explain this?
2) Will there be any "unique environments" other than asteroid fields and nebulae?
3) Are there any campaign-persistent variables?
4) Will any factions use red beams?
I'm confused because Ice fire says that it's a possibility that is will be released without voices at first and then have a patch later but Ace says the opposite.IceFire (no spaces) :)
1) Will unique environments change gameplay, or just be there to look nice?
I know this is a low blow...but here goes...
What will be released first, BWO or Duke Nukem Forever?
I know this is a low blow...but here goes...BWO for sure.

Can you give us a rundown of the new weapons in BWO with a short description for each?
Not to be a nag, but this is a question I would really like answered...That hasn't been 100% finalized and we don't have it all nicely typed out. There are some new weapons...not too many...most of them are for the Sol ships which use some Prometheus and Avenger derivatives (at least initially). We have a pretty funky missile which Bobboau invented which I believe we're keeping and it has a pretty average damage potential but a huge mass impact so you lock, fire, it hits and does some damage but what it really does is just absolutely pummel the target with a kinetic hit and the ship is suddenly hanging there ready for your guns. Its kind of like a Flail but its in missile form and it hits all at once. Can you give us a rundown of the new weapons in BWO with a short description for each?Of course, if it's all classified, then...
Could someone plz explain what HTL stands for? I get that HTL=better models, but I'm curious about the acronym.HT&L stands for hardware transform and lighting as Snail has pointed out. In the community HT&L upgrades to the source code project made FreeSpace ship models jump from 200-500 polys to thousands of polys without a significant decrease in performance. Most of our original work was done assuming the basic FreeSpace 2 engine from years ago. We're trying to catch up but its hard without additional help.
Will there be many acronyms in BWO? What's your favorite new capital ship, and can you show us a pic?
You also said that the Sol Coaliton would use some old ships like Leviathans. Will they be uniform to the Sol Military fleet?
Will the Leviathans be kind of a muted green...not really olive just muted?
*I'm wondering if the staff of BWO have ever honestly contemplated cancelling BWO? (BWO has been considered a 'dead campaign' on more then one occassion)Only a very specific few people have ever considered BWO dead as a project. On occasion I've considered just giving up but there's so much time invested into it and allot of fantastic work. I would feel that we should release what we had if that were ever to happen and then I say to myself that its better that we finish it. Most of the other campaigns that started at the same time with similar goals are still being developed so I think we're ok still :)
note: - this is not intended as an insult or question about release date; its just a simple question.
Hmm. Kinda brings me to my next question : -
Have you ever considered handing the project over to someone else who would be able to finish it quicker?
Hmm. Kinda brings me to my next question : -Absolutely not. That would also imply that someone else could get it done quicker and I highly doubt they could. Not without more resources.

On that topic... *cough* Raven please convert some of those models that were pretty much done ;) *cough*

As long as there are people involved in it. We still need more involvement if people are interested and have the talent required to help but that last point is so very crucial.
Bobboau isn't doing anything currently with the SCP that I'm aware of.
But seriously, you guys should just polish it off and release. Whenever it is that you get the models done, it'll be the missions or something else that's holding you up.
Nobody has of yet offered to help that actually can :)I can help out with a ship or two
Send Ace and myself a PM (best to send to both of us).Nobody has of yet offered to help that actually can :)I can help out with a ship or two
You see, i would help, but i dont want to spoil it for myself... :sigh:
You should probably create a HELP WANTED thread, rather than letting this go on in the Questions thread. So far any time we did that people ignored us. This thread has garnered some attention on the other hand which is good!
So far any time we did that people ignored us.Weeell was I supposed to do something? I never got sent a model to UV, which was what I was sorta expecting.
Could anybody tell me why there is a delay with BWO ? last time I heard about it, I thought it was near release :wtf:
IIRC, you said that if everyone really pushed, you guys could get it done in a week. That'd be assuming a team ten times our size that was instantly available, completely capable, and we encountered no problems. BWO lacks a serious amount of polish that is expected and until its there its not release worthy.
I'd hope you'd release without voice acting. 40 missions of voice acting might take as along as a year, based on FSPort experience....Its a sensitive issue. Its not been decided and probably will not be decided until we're closer.
What I got to say is simple. I can do some voice acting for you if the recording of my voice is good enough for your standards.Since BWO isn't ready yet, you could get some practice (and establish a foothold) by posting a sample voice clip in the Voice Acting (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,126.0.html) forum. :)
Where do I apply?
Scratch that, after getting some information from Goob, my stuff looks like it was done by a retard with crayons.Your what?
In order to adjust for professionalism, this'll take a bit more time than expected. Perhaps till the midle of Febuary.

More like before the events actually happen. :P
Oh man. They're going to kick your ass so hard. :D
I have doubts whether or not it can be completed on Insane though, but I haven't tried it personally.
As far as the installation itself goes, we're looking at making BWO (depending on Ace largely I'd say) a standalone installation, much like Battlestar Galactica works. You download one file, it installs to a separate directory and it's more or less its own game.
The install, last time it was discussed was going to be a standalone.
I don't want to have waited for years for BWO and finish it in a couple of hoursWell you'll have to play through twice to get it all so there is some good replayability factor in there :)
The install, last time it was discussed was going to be a standalone.
Meh, that will make the modpace very very big. Are you sure about that? BWO is close to FS, BtRL is not.
Well iv been waiting to play this campaign for what 8 years now back when freespace watch wasn't dead. Its funny my name been in the system for 8 years and i only posted like 5 times. so im sure someone has ask this alrdy will there be any cut scenes in the campaign
Well, I suppose the release is still a ways off...
BTW - I heard you still have some high-polyfying to do. Do you have any blockyish models? If so, I might be able to help ;7 (you can see my previous work in my sig)
But Voice acting can take a very long time.Yeah. What makes it take so long, anyway? Casting roles? Scripts? Or the actual recording?

Hmm... Okay then. 40 random BWO related questions...
<snip for space>
Which is the correct ending, staying on the GTVA side or joining the Sol side? I'm guessing staying on the GTVA side. The whole point of BWO is that there isn't a right or wrong ending. So I'm assuming neither.
What would you say is the percentage of models still required to be upgraded to HTL standards?
Have you ever planned to release the campaign without voice acting and high-poly models?
Have you ever planned to release the campaign without voice acting and high-poly models?Don't start that again.
Up to date always changes and that means it will never reach up to date since it always changes. You would all be trying to improve the models over and over again but would never release because each time you improve the models to be so called up to date, what would be up to date would be considered to have changed and then the release would be delayed again to try to make it up to date again and the cycle would continue forever and never be released if you are all focused on having the best up to date look and just don't release it the way it is and make a patch for it later. Mobius and ShadowGorrath have a point and I agree with that.
Why would there be legal problems Interplay has gone under i dont now about Volition looked like they've gone under. There releasing the campaign for free not saleing it. I don't see a problemVolition haven't gone down under, they've recently done Red Faction 3,

Questions of my own:
Speaking as someone who bought the boxed game something like 9 years ago and still own the discs....
I remember being incredibly excited when BWO was announced. Who from the original team is still working on it? I remember Icefire and Kellan, I see that IceFire posted recently, is Kellan still around?
Will this be released before 2012? This way in case any of the doomsday prophecies come true we can go out satisfied that our purpose in life (which is to play BWO) is fulfilled. :pWho are you?

No use dwelling and spending too much time worrying and talking about a campaign that is obviously nowhere near release despite the fact that it has been worked on since 2000.I dunno what to say at this point.
No use dwelling and spending too much time worrying and talking about a campaign that is obviously nowhere near release despite the fact that it has been worked on since 2000.Probably since before 2000 :)
In any case....yes BWO is a takeoff of the plots from Derelict and Warzone. We worked out how the stories would fit together (they happen at nearly the same time) and we worked out how some of the two stories would inform the BWO plot.Well they share one mod that I can think of.
Hey ... how come you have two sites (one at 3DAP and one at HLP)? I've noticed that the 3DAP one has much more content...A move in servers a while ago...strangely the old server still hosts that content. Which is weird.
A move in servers a while ago...strangely the old server still hosts that content. Which is weird.
I've been every so slowly working on a new BWO website which will eventually have all of the old content and allot of new content. Its just I've been so busy. Once we know we're within spitting distance of release we'll amp things up. A new website may come before that time.
About the SCP...they use many FS1 based designs, buy how far are they from FS1 in terms of technology? What do they rely on during a battle? On a slower path than the GTVA. While they have a huge industrial advantage over the GTVA the Sol system has seen years of turmoil and substantially less access to Shivan technology. They have beam weapons but not on the same level as the GTVA does. What they do have is fast moving bombs ...or torpedoes for ship killing.
You need to wait for BP2, BWO and INFA2 if you want to do that...it's going to take a while...I'm sure the EA are more powerful than either of the BWO or BP2 factions, but in terms of coolness... I'd like to see that.
My Sol faction is better than EA. Earth Alliance against End War's Sol faction are like cavemen with clubs ( EA ) trying to attack a T-12 Black Eagle tank. And the Terran ****ers from MT have 2 cruisers.
My Sol faction is better than EA. Earth Alliance against End War's Sol faction are like cavemen with clubs ( EA ) trying to attack a T-12 Black Eagle tank. Our Sol faction is not at all like these. No super juggernauts, no super technology, no fancy fleets of brand new ships. The Sol Coalition in BWO is in the midst of political strife and upheaval and the appearance of the GTVA is just fueling the flames. Its a bit more nuanced :)
So, better let's not compare any Sol factions :P
How about you start replying so vigorously in the internal topics too? I'm still waiting for the comments on the *Classified* :PI did! :D
Not like End War's Sol has any super-juggernauts. Yet they could beat EA with ease.
Though the Sol Coalition got me interested in BWO.

Just be aware that uberness often means they're less interesting.

Wait a second, Max...are you saying that BWO is related to Derelict? :eek:Yes it always was loosely related to Derelict, Warzone, and even Twilight. They don't impact the story too much but seeing as BWO was created by several of us in the first place we decided we'd reconcile the events of these different stories and go from there. Gives us more of a fictional base to work from.
Do you think this choice is going to evolve in elithism? In what?
* Establishing the "only Volition information is canon" rule helps prevent elitism and strife (e.g. fans of different post-FS2 continuities, such as Inferno and Cold Element, arguing over which should be considered canon).
* Popularity should not dictate what is taken to be official (e.g. lobbying for Derelict to be declared canon is an insult to other post-Capella-era campaigns)
So...would you do INFSCP in a way that makes INFA non-canon to its own continuity? That makes no sense.
From what I understood, it's not THEM saying so, but the players.
Frak me...elitism.I don't like when concerted efforts are made to establish a story and then promptly contradict oneself. That doesn't make any sense to me. So I'm not sure why BWO should be so completely separate from our previous efforts? That also doesn't make any sense to me. We spent all that time...might as well make use of it.Quote from: FreeSpace Wiki* Establishing the "only Volition information is canon" rule helps prevent elitism and strife (e.g. fans of different post-FS2 continuities, such as Inferno and Cold Element, arguing over which should be considered canon).

Isn't BWO going to strenghten Derelict's importance? Wouldn't that result in elitism?
IMO it'd be better for BWO to be different from Derelict(I know it's late to make changes, though). BWO members have worked on the popular campaign(s) mentioned above, ok, but it doesn't mean they need to create their own FS Universe. In INF, for example, there are several alternate minicampaigns in progress that contradict the main INF continuity. It's always better to come out with new stuff. :D
Either way your opinion's not going to make any difference so late in development. :P
I think there's being a kind of miscomunication here. Just because Warzone, Derelict and Twilight are inter-connected, doesn't mean they are part of canon... In fact, All of those campaigns try at the best of their abilities to stay true to V's FS cannon.
By the line of thought I'm seeing, then any campaign that has more than 1 "episode" is elitist (just think of Inf and InfA, for example). Which is of course a ridiculous thought as far as I'm concerned.
You don't get the point. INFA, INFA1, INFR1, INF SCP and so on are part of the same mod, even the name points them out as part of the INF continuity. Warzone, BWO, Twilight and Derelict don't give that impression.Well, they're all made by Cold Element I suppose. Collectively I call them the Cold Element Series.
Then let people know they're part of CE?
Geez, I see the subject from an external point of view. Reply as if you'd be replying to a newly arrived player and not to me. :)

EDIT: Seriously, is Cold Element Wiki'd enough to solve our problems? If not I volunteer to help. :)Go ahead. CE is horribly under documented for some reason.

Do you really think that telling us there are no Shivans will make us more surprised when the Shivans show up? :p
Or formed an alliance with the Shivans :pShivans don't form alliances. They are like a force of nature...they exist to destroy.
We're going to do something a bit like that in the future...the goal is to get the project to a critical mass point where we're almost finished. Then we'll be able to establish an internal timeline and start showing off new screen shots, renders, and the like. We've got some amazing and interesting looking ships our modeling/texturing team is working on and we want to show those off...but it won't be just a trickle. It'll be a flood when things are ready to go :)QuoteThings you want to know about BWO but were afraid to ask
Are you going to start a monthly newsletter like FOTG?
I hope the "There are no Shivans in BWO" comment isn't true.
. Otherwise, why include a nice ship like the Golgotha if it will never be used for its true purpose
Does the Golgotha use some long-range beam cannon like the GVD Apothess of INFR1?It has a blue Meson cannon, don't know if it's LR.
Because they're being mass produced. Also, I recall it being said that it was meant for multiple Golgothas to wait near a node and fight a Sathanas simultaneously (tactically). That'd be ideal. They each have allot of individual power but collectively they are best suited to taking down such a powerful ship class.
But they might be experiencing problems with their beam cannons, right? Possibly malfunctions? The Golgotha is a prototype...it has bugs. Obviously the intention is to solve them :)
Speaking of beams, will Mjolnirs be featured throughout the campaign? It irks me that the GTVA's most powerful sentry gun seems to be quite prone to overloads... :wtf:Can't remember if we see them used anywhere or not...I'll have to check some of the mission notes.
Mjollnir's were prone to overloads...when?
The second-last mission of Derelict, I think. The one with the Cthon?

It is canon. The team confirmed that the stories of Warzone and Derelect take place in the same universe as BWO. Read harder unless there is too much to read ;) That means the next time the Shivans arrive, it will be like the 6th incursion. But in the 2001 trailer, it said "It has been 9 years since the 2nd Shivan war" or something. That would contradict Warzone, Derelect, and Twilight. But since then, the team has apparently changed the story and decided to include the other campaigns as canon. That makes it more interesting too.
That is what I mean; BWO canon. That means BWO universe. Events that take place in the BWO storyline. I know what canon is. It means it is a part of the story and connected to the story. Meaning the events did happen as part of the official story" (of BWO in this case).
Never heard of fanon. Maybe that has to do with fans since I see a resemblance in that word. Let me guess, the opposite of canon. Or maybe it is not a real term and was a word you made up to mean produced by fans and not by the FS2 team. But it doesn't matter since I meant BWO canon all along.
I STILL want to know WTF happened to the MTD Auriga. It's a loose end from Derelict that needs tied up, bigtime.
Okay, you can live in ShadowGorrath land where everyone enters and IRC channel with a dramatic /me line and everyone can be happy-happy super silly people and we'll live in our world.
BWO-related question (OMGWTF?!)Allot...its a big list. Most of the major systems of the Alliance. And Sol :D
- Which systems will we visit?
Most of the major systems of the Alliance? Does that mean that we will visit beyond-GTVA systems, other than Sol?
what do shivans have to do with pokemon? Most of the major systems of the Alliance? Does that mean that we will visit beyond-GTVA systems, other than Sol?

There are no Shivans in BWO.
There won't be any visits to collapsed systems like Taliana, right?
In other words, the relationship is completely arbitrary?
In other words, the relationship is completely arbitrary?
Cold Element (http://ce.hard-light.net/)
In other words, the relationship is completely arbitrary?Like I said before...and what got a couple of folks all worked up (no idea why still)...we build on the base of Warzone and Derelict to give us some back story, some familiar ships, a general state of things. But you could have played neither Warzone nor Derelict and be just as happy and basically miss nothing.
It seems that despite the fact that this thread's title is about asking questions about BWO, the fact that most of them go unanswered and are kept secret contradicts the purpose of this thread. Care to explain why most of these questions never get answered, like when I asked about the rogue GTVI?
Cruiser sized bomber still making an appearance?
If we've waited a decade, waiting another year or two won't make any difference.
What makes you think we will be waiting for only 1 or 2 more years? I'll believe it when I see it.
So it isn't hurting by saying that.
QuoteSo it isn't hurting by saying that.
But it is annoying.
QuoteSo it isn't hurting by saying that.

Concur.
I don't care. Too bad. Let it go. Saying what you think is the whole nature of forums and sharing opinions and I shared mine. If you are annoyed, well, that is part of life. Deal with it and build tolerance. There is much worse to worry about than that in life.
Apart from the Golgotha and the cruiser sized bomber (seriously, :wtf: and ), are there any other new ships?
They use big missles (like bomber torpedoes) in Inferno (at least GTVA) as well as rail guns (for sol). Maybe railguns holds true for SCP too. Maybe the Cold Element site has info on that.
Edit: I just looked on the BWO website and saw The Babel Effect and Twilight (those links lead to those two ancient one page screens and that is it). Those projects are dead and have no reason to be stored on the website saying "the first chapter returns in 2001" and "The Babel Effect coming soon". Not only does it waste space but can mislead people. Why not just remove those links and one page pics?
We'll be revealing our final MOD packages when release is imminent. We have about a dozen new ships...mostly for the Sol Military but also a couple of GTVA ones...you already know about the Golgotha :DAnd that cool Vasudan fighter that people seem to Skelkwank to...

There are no Shivans in BWO.
I assume that since there isn't much activity on the BWO forum, the internal is much busier, maybe. If only...
That thing is a Pokemon.
But seriously, is the footage shown in that video still valid?I don't think there'd be any major changes in the past 8 years.
Well at least when the next trailer comes out no more old retail explosions! :DActually, most of the MVP explosions ARE the retail explosions just changed to .eff. :doubt:
exp06.ani being a crappy effect from retail. Anyone else agree on that one?I agree. That's the worst explosion of the lot.
Will BWO live up to the hype?Yes.
Will BWO live up to the hype?Depends on what hype you'd be referring to :)
This hype perhaps? (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,35448.msg741429.html#msg741429)Will BWO live up to the hype?Depends on what hype you'd be referring to :)

You guys are long done FREDding, correct?Yep. Missions are about 95% done...they will need some final tweaking once everything else is done but the missions aren't a problem. The problem is our MODs...they are out of date and are being upgraded. But we've got a very small number of people to do that so its going to take a long while.
Just an addition. All BWO missions are essentially complete minus some additional late stage tweaking that will be required. Our team is more in need of people who can handle textures, UV mapping, model conversion, and/or 3D model creation.
No, they probably lost interest, work a lot more in real life, and would like to pass it on to people like the BP team who are more active and will have time to work on it. Actually, I think they should give BWO to Gen Battuta and his team since they will probably get it done faster. :) I would like that and I hope for that. At least then it has a chance of getting released this decade or the beginning of the next.
HLP is full of members and many do projects and other things. I'm sure there are more than several people here willing to take over the work instead.

Actually no one in the team lost interest on BWO. We are however, busy with real life stuff.
Also, although I'm not in the main decision making board, I'm fairly sure we won't give the campaign away light-hearted.
No offense to Gen Batuta or BP (I haven't seen either work anyways, so I don't know if that's the case), but the other reason we have such a long development time is because we have set a high standard level in ALL departments of the campagin. And honestly, besides MT and the Freespace Upgrade project, I still haven't seen any other campaign out there with exclusive fleets of high quality models and textures.
There's 2 ways of going about doing full mods. We chose the hardest and longest ones, but with better benefits to everyone in the end.
BP has a high standard in all levels too, I feel.
BP has a high standard in all levels too, I feel.
I didn't mean any kind of offense, so apologies if it came through as one.
But aparently the differences have been settled, and people understood the issue, so its all good :)
We all get laid.
What happens when we reach 10 years of BWO being in development?
BWO will never be able to live up to the hype
old question I guess but hey! why not
What kind of fighters will the SCP be fielding? How do they differ from the GTVA?
Isn't the Golgotha cool? Yeah, damn straight.
What kind of weapons do SCP warships use? If it's railguns and torps, do they disarm turrets a lot?
Does BWO have any unique assets such as ships, or does it use stuff that's readily available for download? It has quite a few unique assets, including the GTD Golgotha, the GTI Charon, some Vasudan fighter and all the SCP ships. And more!
What's the estimated completion percentage at this time? :)
They just need to HTL a couple models and do voice acting.
Yeah. It's revolutionary, in the time where everyone was making uberships and awesome new weapons of doom, here was a bastion of sanity where the word plot still had a meaning.
I was kidding. Yes, it makes an appearance.
A very brief one though, just before Alpha1's fighter tragically crashes into its main reactor, blowing sol into smithereens! :D
A more serious question now...
Have you ever planned to handle the defection differently? What about this: when the campaign is finished for the first time, a small cutscene brings the player back when he had to choose between defecting or not, and automatically selects the option the player refused at the first time. After the cutscene, the campaign continues with the player being on the other side. Doing so would need a load of clone mission files, but at least it won't force players to restart the campaign from the very beginning.
I hope you got what I meant... :)
phew. thought it really was dead.If it really was dead, what would you do?
It's more like some kind of lich.Heh, I was thinking zombie, but lich is more fitting.
There's sporadic activity in the internal forum, I hope that it won't stay archived for too long.
