Title: A new Nova(Now ingame! 2/10/20)
Post by: starbug on September 03, 2020, 05:13:29 am
A while ago i started work on rebuilding the Nova, now that i am a stay at home dad i have a bit more time to work on it. So i have been as i am adding details i am unwrapping them as i go to try and make the final UVmap a bit easier to do. So this is what i have, i am by no means a expert modeller or texture but i am enjoying it. The texture on it is just used to make sure i am doing the UV map correctly.

a couple of shots of the new model and one with the current one. feedback is very welcome.

Have done a wee bit more work on the Nova.

A bit of an update. I have reworked the turrets, added the rear cannons and added more detailing. most of the model is UV unwrapped. i forgot how tedious unwrapping a model is lol

Its coming alonge nicely

Not a big fan of the long barreled/Season 2 interpretation of the canon turrets myself - the In the Beginning-version of the Nova looks better IMO, the turrets of which are more compact and have shorter barrels. But I can't argue execution of the desing you have chosen - shows your skill

Great work. Looks splendid.

Just out of curiosity, the tales of Janus campaign I believe uses a non-canon version of a Nova mingled with shadow tech (slightly like the omega X). Would it be possible just out of curiosity to plan that slightly different version of the model?

cheers guys, You know Orhp3u5 i never actually noticed that before, the amount of times i have watched in the beginning and never noticed the shorter barrels. lol

Starlord, i might give it a go, when i get this finished. emphasis on the might.  I still have to finish unwrapping this sucka, then doe the levels of detail, add debris, Texturing. Then do all the pof'ing

i have been working on the EAS Nova, i have added more details to the hull, every object is unwrapped. I just need to make my uvmap for the whole model now. Unless you guys can see any details that need added. Then its texturing and level of detail and debris to do.

And so the texture work has begun, I have used the original nova and the HTL omega textures as a basis for this, and built it up from their.

Thanks, I'm actually having a lot of fun with this ship. Will need some help though getting all the pof data etc to match the first release so it doesnt break the campaigns etc.

Very nice, although I always thought the Nova needed more guns

Thanks Nightstorm  :), I think i am pretty happy with the texture, unless you guys think i need to make changes. If not now on to the levels of detail and my favourite bit Debris and doing destroyed textures. Quick question as its been a while, but when saving to DDS what settings do i need to set it as ie alphas, what DX etc.

Unless you're going for transparency I think they're all DX1.  Some one can correct me if not.

Well i have managed to get it into the game and working, for some reason the ship is ever so slightly larger than the original release for some reason. Yet for some reason in 3ds max they are both the same size, so not sure what the deal is. I still have some testing to do, also need to add some glow points as well. Then i will get her shipped off for the next release. Here it is next to the original Nova.
