Don't know why, but the links points to the FL Mod page! Something has gone quite wrong.

this is the test website... we would like to have a php script to post news... however, it is not installed on the server. As long as we are not sure whenever or not it is possible, I am not going to upload the website

I hope you get a demo done soon. I'd like to roast some furballs in FS2 ships as well as WC ones.

How do the WC:BGS ships stack up to the FS2 ones?

I am not sure what you mean...

but I would say most of the ships are in the game now (and it is a huge number, I can assure you). Sadly, some of the textures have to be redone, which may delay the release, that was planned to be in the 4th quarter 2003.

In battles against FS2 ships, how do the Battlegroup Serpent ships fare?

how should I know... afterall, what we have are battles against WC ships :)

remember, WC ships are very different from FS2 ones... One great advantage is surely the wc afterburner

Well the WC afterburner has its advantage also its drawback.
While the FS one is infinite but short the WC ones is limited but as long as you have full ....burn baby burn ^_^

About the handling...well I think its quite different from FS. For example no reloding during missions, so you have to aim you Rockets very carfully.
One thing I realy miss are the capshipshields. Damn the FS engine for not being capable to have good looking, not crashing shield systems for caps.
Shields would make the gaming a lot different. But know the caps are allready quite strong. They are more dangerous as the FS caps. Mostly because they use smaller weapons, but with the fast tracking of the turrets and recharge they are a pain in the ass for every bomber pilot. You can realy get in to trouble when you think your small Arrow could beat a Kilrathi corvette without problems.
(Ship classes are very different from FS..so a corvette is a quite small cap)

As Lars said, the capships are armed with rapid firing, fast turrets which give you some pain when flying into the firing range of one of those. Most fighter weapons are somewhat stronger than the FS2 ones, and the way to kill capships is very different than to FS2. In FS2 you needed dozens of warheads to destroy bigger ships while in WCS a few torpedoes are enough to blow a capship out of space; but the caps there are harder to hit too because they are smaller( most heavy ships are 400-900 m long with some exceptions like the Vesuvius supercarrier, which is about 1800m long) and faster than in FS and are adept at blowing up incoming warheads with their rapid firing, fast turrets.

The armament varies very much with the different fighter classes; some light fighters have only two guns while some heavy fighters have six with which they can tear a light fighter to shreds with one salvo, and some fighters can even be outfitted as capship busters.

One big difference is that you cannot change the gun loadout. And  the gus use more energy. Depending on what ship you fly, it can be that your energy is depleted after three or four full salvos.

The shipclasses are very different from FS2, more like in the real life navy. Corvettes are rather small and weak ships used mostly for escort and picket duties; Destoyers are used for escort and attack runs and they are heavily armed and fast; the really big guns are the cruisers, which are big, rather slow but they are armed with the heaviest weapons; Carriers are big too, but they aren't meant to engage other ships in battle and will most likely loose an  engagement without the proper escort.
Give a man fire and he'll be warm for a day, but set fire to him and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

let me layout for you some of the greatest advancements, that make Wing Commander ships far superior to their FS counterparts.

The warships in the Terran Confederation Navy carry two types of weapon systems: guns and warheads. All capital ships carry guns, but not all of them carry warheads.

As you may remember, almost every ship in FS carries beam weapons, but has almost no defense armament against incomming warheads. (ok, the do have flak batteries, but they are mostly ineffective)

In Wing Commander universe guns are classified into four categories:

Main Battery –    these are the largest guns on a capital ship. These usually include multiple anti-matter guns for cruisers, a single one for destroyers, turreted lasers for fleet carriers, frigates, and corvettes. It should be noted that turreted lasers are main battery for fleet carriers, since they do not carry any larger energy weapons. The Vesuvius-class is however, an exception.

Secondary Battery – These are the second to largest batteries carried on fighting ships, for cruisers and destroyers these are turreted lasers. These are general purpose weapons that can fight both fighters and capital ships.

Tierary Weapons – Cruisers (light, fleet, and medium) carry a third level of energy weapons. Basically capship mounted versions of fighter based laser cannons, these automated weapons are programmed to engage any fighter or warship within 5000 kilometers. Tierary guns are considered point defense weaponry because they are normally too light to prove to be any offensive threat.

Close-In Weapons – Gatling mass drivers are considered a capship’s last ditch defense. If all else fails, they have to run the gauntlet.

I hope I could help you...

Be careful what you say. Some people would see that as a reason to start a vendetta.:D :drevil:

perhaps that was a bad wording: I ment that Wing Commander ships have better anti-fighter(bomber/warhead weaponry

Then lets begin ^_^

Well Tolwyn is right...the WC anti-fighter defance is quite hard to break through. Even a small corvette could be quite a pain in the ass.

I have got a mission where you fly  a Arrow against a single Kilrathi-Corvette and 3 transporters. These fast firing laser turrets are quite hard to avoid...special when you try to knock them...what means that you have to fly straight into there firing arc.

well, I have noticed that cap ships weaponry may be a pain in the ass. Therefore I have reduced the speed of beam weapons.

Since I do not have time to test new settings out (damn voice overs), I hope somebody could do that.

Beam weapons? We have beams in WC?

I think what you mean are the energy weapons, don't you?
Well I can test that next weak..after my excams.

I'd have to test it first, but I don't think that's a good idea. I never liked the way Alpha1 could eat any capship for breakfast like in FS and I don't want to turn WCS into something like that.
I like it the way it is now that you have to do a lot of dodging and using the afterburner not to get hit, and I beat all the missions that were included right now, and I'm not the best flier around.
And itt looks much cooler if the big ships are firing fast bolts than those like in FS were the capship bolts are so damn slow.

Well we could make them just a little bit slower...not much, but at the moment its quite difficult to make a run with a bomber.

well, you still need a lot of luck to get close enough to a cap ship. I have just discreased he speed of weapon bolts (i.e. from 800 to 600). It is still damn fast for a cap ship. In fact there will be almost no difference, except the fact that you have additional second or two to evade incomming laser bolts. So far the theory.

It has to be tested, but I think it is ok. Also, the agility of missiles should be reduced a bit too. Otherwise a lot of missions may be quite impossible to complete... alive....

It could also help to reduce the range of missiles or tell the AI not to shot every missile it has in one salvo !
But that would be something for the coder people.

The nay-sayer strikes again!;7 I don't think that reducing the missile range would  bee good, it helps too fell different from FS with the higher weapons range. But it would be good for the AI to conserve it's missliles, but right now tha AI is too stupid for that. The same thing occurs with the afterburners sometimes.
