What are the different "pcs2 (2).exe, pcs2 (3).exe, etc"? Are they different forks of pcs2?

The download package has been updated to include the January 21st builds.

Do the Transformation features work with the latest build ? I grab the exe from the 21 January but when try to reduce a ship. POF CS2 crashed. Or perhaps it's a models issue ? I was using Vengence's HECv Typhoon.
