One thing came to my mind. You should post what hardware and operating system your computer has. That might help the wise men here in solving your problem. Also, do make sure that your drivers are up-to-date.

Also, his name isn't gobber. It's Goober.

How did you install FSOpen?  (What Installer did you use?  Or did you install the files yourself?)

There are links to several different Installers in my siggy, including instructions for installing it yourself.

Ok, good.  What version of Windows are you running?  XP?  Pro or Home?  What kind of user account (limited or administrator)?

And, look in my signature about getting IRC... perhaps you could post in there; there are about 9 ppl in there right now.  Just send your question and wait 10 or so minutes; once somebody answers, then you can chat.

1) Do you have the latest Service Packs?

2) Do you have the latest Graphics card drivers?

3) Do you have the latest Audio card drivers?

4) Do you have OpenAL installed?  (www.openal.org)

1) Get md5summer (http://www.md5summer.org/download.html).
2) Download the FS2 basic install md5 (http://rapidshare.com/files/54827987/FreeSpace2_base_files.md5)
3) put the md5 file in your FS2 root (main) directory.
4) Open up md5summer (extract it to a location of your choice, and double-click it... eg, c:\tools\md5summer or similar).
5) Select FreeSpace2 as the root directory in md5summer, and hit "Verify Sums"; now select the md5 file that is in the freespace2 directory
6) Post any differences here (you can save the log file, and attach it by hitting "Additional Options"; if you don't see Additional Options, hit "Preview" first).

the only thing i need now is the ode for the ini file (the code is shown under fsopen installation walkthrough) and now comes my question can someone make that ini for me and send it to my email address becuase i don't have notepad but only wordpad and editor and with these two sofar i now you can't make an .ini file
Title: Re: FSopen problem
Post by: karajorma on September 11, 2007, 10:53:21 am
If you mean the launcher6.ini file that is automatically generated when you run the launcher.

If you happen to have no editors, then either get one (use the might of wikipedia - for example - and search for araneae, crimson edit, notepad++ or other such) or if you are unwilling to download and install one then you can always use the basic edit embedded into the command line tool.

And you can make ini files with wordpad. You just need to remember that wordpad will save them as file.ini.txt by default instead of file.ini

karajorma i mean the mod.ini file
Title: Re: FSopen problem
Post by: Jeff Vader on September 11, 2007, 12:22:38 pm
The mod.inis allow you to use multiple mods at the same time. Turey's Installer provides you with these files. They're located in folders such as fsport and derelict. If you've downloaded everything and want to see pretty and shiny graphics, open the Launcher (you got it working, right?), open the MOD tab, click select MOD, select the mediavps folder and hit OK. And save the settings.

In the launcher select the debug version of the game rather than the one you've been using up till now.

When the game crashes out go into your data folder and open the FS2_Open.log file you'll find in there. Post the first 40 lines and the last 10.

@karajorma and everyone else who doesn't know the secret:

You must select the file type "all file types" instead of "text files", and then when you type in filename.ini your .ini will be the extension instead of .txt

Your problem is that you've set a bunch of launcher options you shouldn't have set. The direct cause of your problem is that you've turned on the options for the Babylon 5 Mod. Why you'd do this when you're not playing the Babylon 5 mod is a bit more of a mystery. :p

I can see at least 5 flags you shouldn't be setting. -wcs,  -nohtl, -no movies, -noparseerrors, -oldfire  and that's without looking too carefully.

You should only be setting launcher flags if you know what they do.

FS1 or FS1 Port?

FS1 should be completely unaffected by your FS2 or FS2_Open install.

Unless of course you install them both in the same folder. Games don't tend to like it when you do that.

kara, wcs is "Wing Commader Saga"... so he's trying to run Babylon 5, Wing Commander Saga, and FSOpen at the same time.

@Element: take a look at the walkthrough in my signature.

I know but the crash he observed was from the -tbp command line. Notice that it's caused by a missing warp animation? That should have tipped me off even before he posted his debug log as there is only one reason why the game asks for a second set of warp anis.

If you can't deselect it, it means you've already got it.
