Author Topic: messed up campaign?  (Read 3068 times)

So, I was playing Pandora's box and was unsatisfied with my performance, so I wanted to play it again... later. I had restarted the mission (I think) and quit the game shortly after. When I loaded the game up again, though, it took me to a training mission for aspect missiles and shields but I couldn't actually load them on the ship nor did I have them on the ship when the training mission started. I have since skipped the training mission and gone on, but I'm wondering if I've messed something up.

So, did I mess something up and if I did, how can I fix it?

Also, is there a way to extract the cut-scene movies and watch them outside of the game (under linux)? Ingame they're all chopping and I just wanted to see them in all their glory at least once.

Thanks,
Mike

OK, one can deduce the following fact from your post: you've somehow ended up playing the advanced training mission from the FS1 main campaign. And since you seem to have Pandora's Box as your mod, it messes up the configuration thing. I'm not sure how that could be possible, unless you've accidentally selected the FS1 main campaign before attempting to continue the game. And even in that case you should have been going at the training mission in the FS1 campaign.

As for the cutscenes, they should be in your FSPort folder, unless there's some unique Linux feature that hides them soewhere else. Or they might be in a specific vp in the folder, in which case you have to extract them with a vp viewer.

Pandora's box is the name of one of the missions in the FS1 main campaign, though I was unaware that there was a different mod of the same name. I was not using the separate mod/campaign.

is there linux native VPviewer available, or should I learn WINE to use the windows one?

Well, shame on me. The campaign by that name has just been popping up on the forums so I immediately assumed that you had been playing that. 'pologies. I just checked the freespace.fc2, the campaign file for FS1 to confirm that you have indeed proceeded to the next mission, which is the training mission, even if you tried to convince the game that you'd like to have another shot at Pandora's Box. It happens. I've had that issue and I'm not sure if you can do anything about it. Then again, now that I remember the Pandora's Box mission, you are supposed to fail partially. So don't worry about that.

As for the training mission loadout problem, I uploaded a fixed mission file for it to my site-ish thing (see the Useful stuff for FSO link in my sig). Punch it in your \FSPort\data\missions folder. That ought to fix the problem. I'm guessing that you have a FreeSpace folder even in your Linux thingie. Pardons, I wouldn't know since I'm a persistent Microsoft *****.

For a vp viewer, check the FreeSpace Wiki, if there would be anything useful.

Edit: just so we're clear here, btm-05.fs2 is the mission file that you should download and throw into the mentioned folder.

Where did you quit from? The debrief screen, or in-game?

why would an SCP error be considered as news? :wtf: *smacks Cobra*It's a feature.

it might have been in-game after restarting.  So, I got debrief, hit the button to restart the mission, then once it started I quit.  I *believe* that was the sequence.

Yes, yes you did. It was your problem that made me see the larger problem lurking behind the smaller one I had fixed earlier.
