Out of all the resources on this site and over the internet, I cannot find a solution to this crash problem I'm having. (Unless i'm just stupid.)

I'm using Open Launcher 5.5c Appearently, with C:\Games\Freespace 2\fs2_open_3_6_9.exe being run, with no features. Playing with the debug version works for some reason, but the actual thing does not. I have an errorlog here too:

That is most likely your problem. It likely means that your Intel Graphics Accelerator doesn't support the OpenGL version that is needed for FS2_Open to run in OpenGL mode. Which with high probability means that you're screwed in that regard, sorry. :blah:

Here's what you can try:

-check that you have the latest drivers for your video device - that sometimes makes a difference.

-try runnign the game in Direct3D mode instead of OpenGL - this way you'll likely get some kind of gameplay out of your PC, but there will be more visual bugs and other ones, and many of the graphics upgrades won't work at all... which likely isn't a great loss because your GPU would likely not handle them very smoothly anyway, they are rather graphics heavy especially for the memory requirements.

-find the file named "fs2_open.log" and attach it here... or paste the last, relevant section of it into <code></code> tags.. that's the actual debug log, errorlog.txt just stores the errors, debug log tells more or less what caused the errors - if it's a bug. In this case it'll most likely not help because it's your hardware that can't apparently run OpenGL very well, but nevertheless you might wanna post it.

-buy a dedicated graphics card... assuming that your PC's motherboard has a place for one, you can easily get one that runs FS2_Open very well with rather little amount of money.
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

 
Money for me is a problem, as i'm 16 without a job and I'm finding it difficult to obtain a job due to the limited selection I have.

Hopefully I can buy a new computer with christmas money. If your solution doesn't work, I can just keep on playing FS1 that I still have on CD. :/

 
fs2_open.log is something i can't find. And whats even stranger, the debug program works perfectly. I don't get a crash with the debug, just with the actual thing. Strange huh? I guess I can just keep playing the debug one until someone figures something out, but seriously, this problem is getting on my nerves :<

It seems you're using Direct3D rendering device when you're running the debug build. That's the most likely reason that it works. Try and set it to OpenGL and see what that gives - it probably won't work any better than normal build in that case.

Also try and run a normal build with D3D instead of OpenGL and see if it works. You'll likely be able to play in D3D, at least to some extent.
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

...and now, I can't really say anything of help, sorry. It appears that the OpenGL init goes through smoothly but when the game actually tries to start rendering something, your GPU driver doesn't like it any more and causes the game to crash/quit.

For now, I suppose you'll need to play in D3D mode. Some more knowledgeable people may be able to help further.

Did you check that you really do have the latest drivers for the GPU? You'll probably find that information from your PC manufacturer/Intel website.

Actually, This problem is starting to look similiar to an issue i've had with another game, Jedi Academy. Appearently, the software is alright, as I've got the most updated software that I know of, but it crashes my intergrated graphics controller :/ I've begun using Direct3D on the lowest possible setting and it works. I think its probably just my graphics being retarded. But whatever the cause, I'm pretty sure its the hardware, and not the software.

It works at the level that I don't mind playing at. Thank you for your help.

I'd say to go with D3D for now. Even if the game didn't crash there for you you'd probably get a crash whenever something exploded.

You might want to document that, because that's so obscure and random that someone other might bump into the same problem and I know that would definitely not be the first amongst things to suspect. Good thing you managed to figure out what's wrong!

...stupid OEM manufacturers and their stupid proprietary programs crap they insist on pre-installing on the systems they deliver... I'm guessing that's the case in this incident as well, but even if it weren't, it's still fun to throw random curses at OEM PC manufacturers, they deserve them all anyway. Where's your computer from? What was the name of the keyboard proggy?

False alarm, It seemed to work for a moment. But when tried to really play it crashed again. Only reason I tried it because my keyboard software has been known to cause problems with my graphics. So idk. Sorry bout that :<
