Sound problems

Hey all, Im having sound issues that I think are related to openal, but Ive tried what people on here have and I still cant get sound.  Ive installed the newest version of openal but when I start the launcher it still says I don't have it.  Ive gone into my system32 folder and deleted nvopenal.dll and that still didnt help.  Ive been running generic sound under the sound settings.

Any suggestions?

Athlon 64 3200, 2 gigs of ram, Nvidia 7600gt ko
Originally I installed it on another computer and then dragged it over to this one.  Would that be whats causing the sound issue?  The rest of the game runs just fine

I don't exactly remember step for step, it was a couple weeks ago, I just remember using a program that downloaded it for me automatically and followed whatever instructions were there

Hmm. Sounds like Turey's Installer. Good. Well then, how did you install OpenAL? I did a quick search on the forums and many people have had bad results, when they've simply found some dll file from the Internets that they've thrown into \system32\. As a last thing that comes to my mind, I suggest that you once again remove all the files mentioned in that solution thread from \system32\ and then run this OpenAL installer. (If the link fails, there is another one in my signature).

I've been out in the yard drinking all day so if this has already been said or it's just way off just ignore me. 

I think there have been other instances where older OpenAL drivers were installed into the wrong directory and still being picked up by the OS.  There should be some threads about it on here if that is a possibility.
