I'm playing the fsport on an installer, using "s2_open_3_6_9.exe" (that's what the launcher tells me).

During the campaign, I'm supposed to disable and disarm a Hammer of Light Vasudan ship.  Suddenly a Cain Shivan ship appears, and the narrator tells me not to engage him.

Well, I disabled, disarmed, the Vasudan ship, destroyed all the cargo, the Cain is still around, and random shivan ships pop up every 5 minutes.  I swear I've shot down 15 of them!  Quite lengthy time wise in this portion of the game!  all my ship mates are dead, and I've accomplished all of teh mission objectives except "capture the vasudan ship", even though it is already both disabled and disarmed!

any help would be appreciated, thanks.

It's a bit silly mission, but the "goal" is to fail. Failing results if and when the Vasudan cruiser is destroyed. If you don't want to destroy it yourself, just take out the cargo and once the Shivans arrive, retreat to a safe distance. And tell your wingmen to come along.

Or just ka-blam the HoL cruiser (was it the Ramses?) until it has 1% hull left, and the Shivan cruiser (the Taranis) will be able to "kill" it.

But capital ship combat with out beams is very slow.

Thanks.  Yeah, I decided to let the Ramses die and that did finish the mission after killing the leftover cargo.

Yes, the HoL cruiser was the Ramses (good memory!). 

Yeah, I decided to let the cruiser kill the Ramses by retreating and enabling time compression, allowing the Shivan fighters to destroy it.

If you destroy the Shivan fighters, it would have taken super forever for the Tanaris to kill the Ramses.

'z alright. If I hadn't known about the unavoidable results of this particular mission beforehand, I too would have probably been a bit wtf, when there's no capture team in sight.

I wonder at this mission tho. A wing of Shivan bombers wouldn't have gone amis here, yet no bombers, and blobs take forever to kill capital ships.
