Re: can someone help me with this?
ok, but still, just humour me.. if you have a link to vps too.. because i dont trust myself, files on my mac have been repeatedly copied and pasted and downloaded and copied and thrown away and pulled back out. i think i have like files from all different fs open installations.
wait, what if the media vps mod.ini file is messed up, instead of the blueplanet?

Re: can someone help me with this?
Wouldn't matter, the mod.ini there is not being referenced (I'm pretty sure.)

If you need a new install just go over to the FreeSpace Upgrade Project (for MVPs) and Blue Planet forums right here on HLP.

Re: can someone help me with this?
thankyou very much. i'll tell you if anything fixes! thanks for all the help! :)
the new download made earths horizon appear and a description, and media vps start up on their own, but the raynor still crashes the game!!! :banghead:

Re: can someone help me with this?
Do you get any error in the debug log when the crash occurs? Remove all VPs marked 'adv' or 'advanced' from both your mediavps and Blue Planet folders.

Re: can someone help me with this?
the media vps are what are crashing the game when i look at the raynor, i tried to run transcend, and a lot works fine, but certain ships, like the GTCv Deimos, and  the GTD Orion, have holes in them, same as bp ships would have if u ran them without vps. the worst though, was the GTI arcadia. it was a floating plate with lines flying off of it, they crashed my game. debug?

Re: can someone help me with this?

Say you have "Mod A" and it has a mod.ini that says to Load "Mod B".

It won't matter in the slightest what the mod.ini in "Mod B" says to do, the engine won't care, nor will it read it.

As far as MediaVPs crashing out on stuff: (don't know if this was already mentioned) but I would recommend NOT loading MV_Advanced or any bp-Adv-* VP file. In fact, if they are present, move them out to somewhere else where they won't get loaded until you can get a better video card. Also, you will need to "Disable GLSL" in the launcher (or manually put -no_glsl into your command line)

Also, TangoA and TangoB VP files may safely be deleted, they are unused and unnecessary.

Manual command line editing can happen by going into your Freespace2\data folder and opening "cmdline_fso.cfg"
You can then replace everything to make it read:
Code: [Select]
-mod blueplanet,mediavps_3612 -glow -3dshockwave -no_glsl

Re: can someone help me with this?
i suppose its progress, it seems deleting MV_advanced enabled the orion and deimos to show up, but they still are partially transparent, and im afraid to load the arcadia in the tech room..

Re: can someone help me with this?

A complicated bit, but if you could 'Prt Scr' (Print Screen) showing the partial transparency, the engine will make a TGA file in your FreeSpace2\screenshots directory. If you can convert that to PNG and them put it on imagebin/photobucket/imageshack and link it here, I'd like to see the problem. (Additionally, from the main hall, if you press 'F3' this will take you into a ship lab. Upper left menu, you can select "Ships" to see a list of loaded ships sorted by species. And a little to the right of that is "Render Options" where you select "Disable Model Rotation" to line up the perfect shot by using the mouse to click-drag to move the sip around its axis)

Also, how does a recent log look like now? Does it show loading blueplanet as well as MediaVPs? And you're not loading any of the bp-adv*.vp files, right?

Re: can someone help me with this?

Those happen because sub-system Types (and how to handle them) are still largely hard-coded. So long as it is saying 'unrecognized type", then you are perfectly fine to ignore it.

If it says something to the effect of "I found a subsystem in the model that is not in the table" or "the table tells me there is a subsystem, but I can't find it in the model", then you have something to report.

Otherwise, that looks pretty good. Still having any graphical (transparency) issues?

Re: can someone help me with this?
yes, badly, the raynor, arcadia, and orion crash the game, and all blueplanet ships, as well as the GTFr triton, the poseidon, and the GTT argo have holes in them, as well as lines, the lines i saw, when i got a good look, appeared to be the texture for the bottom part of a GTT elysium, where the airlock hatch is.

ive tried running it without vps, the game crashes almost imediatly.

Re: can someone help me with this?

You may need to play around with adding either "-disable_fbo" or "-novbo" and failing that, both.

Re: can someone help me with this?
ok, neither one on its own made a change, but enabling both may not have fixed the textures holes, the orion didnt crash the game, but the GTD hecate managed just that. im in the tech room, is that proper?
the only reason i dont think that its my graphics card is the fact that the game runs better with the vps enabled than it does without. it wont even run a mission unless i enable the vps, in which case it has holes in the ships, but either with or without it still has flinging textures off ships, more so without.

Erm. Suddenly you are missing the patches for the MediaVPs. That is,

Re: can someone help me with this?

JeffVader: Nice catch, but still probably wouldn't fix anything. Though, pulling out MV_AnimGlows would probably help immensely ease the memory burden on that poor Intel.

vonhertell999:
Actually, your "video card" has a LOT to do with it. I put that in quotes because an Intel Integrated chip set isn't a video card and it is barely passable as a decent 2D accelerator, and it doesn't handle 3D happily, much less OpenGL. Suffice to say, you've probably gotten the furthest you can get in terms of what this chip will handle reliably, the fact that it is occasionally barfing the game into exiting isn't surprising.

I can't yet think of anything to throw at this.

I don't know how hardware sells in the U.K., but a dedicated graphics card will be the only way you're really going to get around these issues. And not just any hardware card will do either (just so you don't try slapping in a Trident PCI card to call it good).

I'd recommend something that at a minimum will fully (and completely) handle OpenGL 2.0 (3.0 or higher is better of course). Doesn't really need to have a lot of on board memory, but the more the merrier (256 to start would be good, 512 is even better, anything else is just icing on the cake). Avoid anything that does "TurboCache". It may sound good that the card has "X" amount 'onboard' but can use 'up to' "y" amount, because that "Y" amount will come out of your computers main RAM.

I'll see if anything jogs loose mentally throughout the day for you to try, but I haven't much confidence that it will get any better.
