FS2_Open-Inferno RC4 crashes on "Out of memory"
I'm currently still using the non-Inferno version of 3.6.12 because it won't crash in normal operation, the Inferno version will. It actually will crash on a ST:R mission, but this is not surprising, because it's a known problem.

But when I try to avoid the problem by using the 3.6.14 RC4 (Inferno, OS X), but it will crash because it seems there isn't enough memory. I can't use 10.7 or a 64-bit version because I'm currently stuck with using the first MacBook Pro (Intel Core Duo, 10.6.8).

I don't know if this is exactly related to your issue, but your -mod entry is a little wonky.

Remove the 1st mediavps_3612 entry, I don't know what effect duplicating it is going to have.  i.e.

Edit: you also don't seem to have the mediavps_3612 update files, get them from the release thread

The actual amount of ram you have might be helpful as well. A Core Duo is long enough ago this could be a concern.
