Windows discs, OSX machine
Hi guys,

I first played FS2 the week it came out and still think as you all do - its the best space sim out there.

My problem is that I no longer have any Windows machines left in the house, having moved my work system over to MAC OSX and really don't feel like buying Windows variants again to use with Bootcap or Parallels just to play FS2.

Do I have to buy a new OSX version of the game to play it once more or can I use eitehr the original Windows discs I still have, or even an image of the Windows directory for FS2 which I bothered to keep 'just in case' I needed it in the future.

Thanks for all your thought and assistance!

Wait what.

Retail FS2 only has a Windows version. You'll have to get the files of a working retail install somehow (OSX users can probably help you with that) then use a FSO OSX exe. See here for more info.

Re: Windows discs, OSX machine
Yep, the solution is to install the game to a Windows machine, copy that install to your Mac, and install FSO over it.

Re: Windows discs, OSX machine
The retail installer works plenty fine under Wine on Linux, and considering my terrible history with Wine that probably means it'll work on anything.

Has anyone ever tried getting FS2 to run on a Raspberry Pi ?  ;)

Uh I don't think you can run FSO on ARM...

As long as that windows directory contains the retail install's .vp files you should have no problems throwing an fs2o install together.

This sticky should help.

Yeah. If you don't have a Windows machine to hand it's much, much easier than setting one up.

Re: Windows discs, OSX machine
Thanks all - visited my relatives who have an old XP machine and recovered an installation from my old Windows discs.

I haven't installed the mediaVP files, as I cannot seem to see a single 'link' to download them, nor the single installer that I would need.

I am probably missing something, so a final bit of help would be appreciated !

At the moment the Installer is horribly broken and outdated. A new one is in the works, but isn't ready yet. In the meantime, follow the link above step by step; it's really not difficult.
