Occasional fatal error on startup

Usually everything runs just great, but sometimes as soon as I click run on the launcher (5.5) I get a total freeze, requiring a hard reset.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

As an aside while I'm at it, if I remove MV_radaricons.vp, will this cause any issues?

Edit - I should add that after rebooting all settings in the launcher revert to blank/default, mod, build, features etc.

Removing mv_radaricons will not cause issues.
