I dont get it. What is out and what isnt?

I remember playing Inferno R1 a long time ago and I remember playing two versions of the "you are still in Sol". One of them was Sol, A History.

But one post from Nov. 2006 says INFA has been released while another from 2007 says it is still in production. I know for a fact that INF: SCP is still in production.

Is INFA playable? And where do I get INF R1? We need a sticky with all the download links...
Just don't give away the homeworld...

With Inferno, it's more like you need a dictionary to figure out what all of the convoluted acronyms mean.  I've been considering hiring the team a marketing expert for a while now. :p You should be able to grab R1 from the Inferno website and the original Alliance release from its site (which isn't linked on the main Inferno page, for some strange reason).  The way I understand it right now, the team is now working on a stand-alone Alliance pack that will work with both it and its sequel, though that's still in progress.

As for Sol: A History, it wasn't developed by the actual Inferno team but by an individual named Blaise Russell; he did use Inferno's ship pack for the mod, though.  Due to its age, it had some rather significant table issues that prevented it from playing nice with newer SCP builds, but ShadowGorrath did some upgrades to it that should allow it to work.  I think there's a more substantial upgrade in-progress here.

Wait. Why does the Inferno Alliance page have versions for FSOPen and regular? What's the difference between Inferno Core and Alliance Core?

Don't quote me on this, but I believe you'll need both the Alliance Core and Alliance Inferno files.  If you had the SCP version of Inferno, you could get by with just the Alliance Core files, but since that hasn't been released yet (and will probably be greatly changed when it is, anyway), you'll need both sets to get all of the required files.  All of this is going to be outdated eventually, when the stand-alone version of Alliance is released, so this is pretty much just a stopgap measure.

keep INFA and INFR1 in seperate mods. And R1 needs to be in a folder named INFR1 for S:AH to work, unless you change Sol's Mod.ini.

And INFASA will be out this summer... not sure if that includes INFA2. And also...

INFR1 - The original Inferno, the one you know. Shadow0000 released a patch some time ago, look in the Inferno forum (not by the Inferno team). There is also a patch to make it SCP compatible, PM me if you need instructions. (Made by the Inferno team)

INF:SCP - A complete remake of INFR1, starting from the ground up. Uses the SCP engine and has many HTL ships. Yet to be released. (Work-In-Progress by the Inferno Team)

INF:A - Inferno Alliance. A campaign that shows what happened in the Sol system after the jump node collapsed. (Made by the Inferno team)

INFASA - Inferno Alliance Stand-Alone. And update to INFA making almost all of the ships HTL, and improving the campaign. (Work-In-Progress by the Inferno team)

INFA2 - Inferno Alliance 2. The sequel to Inferno: Alliance, will be released as a mod for INFASA. (Work-In-Progress by the Inferno team)

well I would just like a nicely fredded AND nicely written AND nicely voice-acted Inferno SCP that finishs the story arc from Freespace 1 and 2.
Something like a user-made Freespace 3  :lol:    Guess I am asking way to much.

To think of that Inferno SCP wont be out for a long time and that it will only be the first chapter...  :shaking:

Something is missing there.

"Inferno Team" is generic as there are two badges, INF SCP and INFA. I'm a member of the INFA team, not the INF SCP one. Woomeister is the only member working actively on both projects. Many INF SCP features remain unknown to me since I'm not part of the developing team.

Sadly, the INFA team is the only active one, the other is composed by inactive members or people busy with RL. Me and Snail could start working on INF SCP as soon as INFA2 is complete, but that won't happen anytime soon.

Please don't forget that the INFA project involves three campaigns:

1) The first INFA one, made by Woomeister only. I've tested it before the release alongside with Snail and a few other people. The campaign has been released with the original INFA pack.

2) INFA1, that will be released with INFA SA, is a considerable improvement of the first campaign with more missions, characters, high level FREDding and new stuff. Don't see it as a normal revamping as all missions have been radically changed - it'll be like playing a new campaign. This campaign is in very good shape, only a handful of missions are to be completed and delays are due to RL (me, Snail and Edivad have important exams). It'll be hard to see this one released after summer, believe me.

3) INFA2, that will need INFA SA to run, is a sequel to INFA1. It will feature many new ships and many, many missions. No missions have been FREDded yet and discussions about plot and modpack are in progress. Don't expect it anytime soon because we have great hopes and want it to be a very nice campaign with unique ideas.

I perfectly know and understand that but I'd suggest to take in consideration the upcoming INFA release as it will pretty interesting. There are many differences between it and the old INFA one, so...


PS The FreeSpace Wiki has pages about the many INF versions and they're meant to avoid confusion. Just consult them. :)

INFA2's EA isn't exactly what you think it is. There will be ship designs you won't see in INF SCP :nod:

And don't forget that INF SCP's EA is given by the unification of Sol, with all its factions...ehm...I can't tell you more...

Make a folder inside your FS2 folder. Select it in the installer menu. Install the patch to this folder as well.

There are many differences between it and the old INFA one, so...

will there be voice-acting? it may seem strange considering that I fredded campaigns myself but I hardly play anything that's not voice acted. It's just not immersing when you have to read the dialogue  :lol:

As Woomeister said time ago voice acting would delay the release of several months. INFA1 and INFA2 will probably be voice acted in a second moment, after the release.
