Ahh, (My next Answer would have been Weapon Shockwaves) I thought about it, and they did actually meet up with the given criteria. . .They may be mentioned In more then one techroom page however.

For when you wake up: Is It the subspace entry/exit warp effect?

Is it shields?

It's only mentioned once in the intelligence things, it's definitely an engine feature. They *don't* work in subspace, which is vital as otherwise the final mission of FS1 could not take place to begin with, and they are related to subspace as evidenced by them not working whilst being in subspace.

They are also sexy :p

However, I do think that they are mentioned in the FS1 briefings ocasionally but I'm banking on you not fully remembering everything (and heck, I don't either).

How is "subspace itself" an engine feature? Also, it would be very hard to argue that it doesn't play a major role in Good Luck. It's also mentioned way more than once in the intelligence section of the techroom.

How is "subspace itself" an engine feature? Also, it would be very hard to argue that it doesn't play a major role in Good Luck. It's also mentioned way more than once in the intelligence section of the techroom.

My reasoning was that it is an engine feature that you could set a flag in FRED to make the mission take place in subspace.  And although the mission takes place in subspace and the shields are disabled by subspace (thus making it important), it doesn't otherwise affect the balance or gameplay.

As for how many times it's in the tech room, well, it's mentioned several times in briefings too.  I thought MitoPL might have been referring to the phenomenon of subspace, rather than the fact that subspace jumps, nodes etc. are common.

But in summary, yes, that probably qualified as an unnecessary question on my part. :p

Well, that's close enough - it was the subspace vortex created with a subspace drive. It has its own effect in the engine, so...
-It is pretty cool, especially in latest Nightly FSO builds,
-canonical as much as spaceflight, also non-material,
-Mentioned only once in "Subspace" Intelligence entry, and never in mission briefings and debriefings,
-Without it nobody could enter subspace, thus it is pretty important in the Lucifer assault :P.
So it is both a game visual/audio effect, and a canonical phenomena needed to use even the most basic subspace drives.

At least several times: after the first player's encounter with the Shivans, after developing our own shields, after first sighting of the Lucy, and before Good Luck, I think.

So, well, I got this a bit complicated, but well: you often don't notice things that are directly in front of your nose :P
