Title: Ok, seriously now.
Post by: Styxx on December 11, 2006, 01:22:07 pm
I won't let all the content the team has already created go to waste. It's been a long time since we started, but this thing is this close to being done, it just seems like nothing is being done anymore. So, if anyone else cares about this project and wants to help out, let me know. I'm frankly considering opening the whole project just to see if it actually gets finished, it's been so long that no one is paying attention any longer, and the staff members that still care are too busy (I'm on the final stretches of my masters course and swamped with work, for example). Anyone else still cares about this? And anyone is willing to work on it?

Well, let me know. I want this thing to actually go somewhere someday.

If I can offer some advice -- don't do that.  You'll get the bystander effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect) and nothing will happen.  Plus, the plot will be given away. :)

Find some talented newbies and offer them a position.  There are a bunch around.  I'm sure they'd jump at the chance. :)

FREDding.

As of December 21st and the end of finals, sure, I'll help.

Wow, several years and my account still exists...

As of December 21st, I can try and offer some help. I've had some experience with playing with FRED before, and I did submit a (rather garbage though) mission to the Silent Threat mission design contest a long way back.

Sorry, Taristin, I've gotten 2 missions done, but I'm not sure about one of them because the original was so different from the description in the doc.

Fredding definately is the main problem. I mean, we have about one third of the missions, that only need some more polishing and 2/3rd that already have working skeletons (not exactly all of them, but the majority). I'm in no way capable of fredding anything since half a year and this state is holding on, since we have a lot of exams. I am still willing to carry this thing out to the end, although I'll gladly give the lead missiondesign position away, but there is just nobody willing to do this. We have alot of missions and it's quite a hard job to connect the things together. I do know my way around the storyline and I would like to offer advice in any means possible, but I simply don't have the time to Fred.

He went AWOL about a year ago, then out of nowhere, posted COW2 on GW and then disappeared again.

I can't not promise you to do some testing. I just don't have the mood to get started, but when I do start testing, I promise to do a bunch.
Title: Re: Ok, seriously now.

Testing is not the main problem, but fredding.

Although I'm working on my own mod right now (quality should be Inferno-level, no matter how long working for that takes), I think I could spare some time on fredding for Machina Terra. There's just a bunch of questions I have:

Is there already a "script" of what those missions should be or should I design some fully from scratch using my creativity?
(would like some script more, all my creativity is going into my mod right now)

English is not my native language (I'm from Germany), so some of the text I write will surely have spelling/grammatical errors. Could this become a problem or do you have enough people to check this?

I'm not the best one with balancing a mission (usually it gets to easy), so I need some people to test my missions and give me feedback or do the final steps. Anyway, I don't think that should be the problem.

Ok, let's give it a try. I'll do 1-2 missions and you guys tell me if you like them or not -> if I'm useful or not. If yes, I'll work on as many as I can, at least the following christmas holidays I should have the time to work fast, lateron I'm sure university will slow me down a bit. Just tell me what I need and where to download it.

Ill try get something done by Wednesday, right now I'm not using my computer (hotel computer). I'll try upload them soon. I hope. :nervous:
Title: Re: Ok, seriously now.
Post by: DarkShadow- on December 19, 2006, 06:54:11 am
Would be cool if I can download it till thursday, cause till thursday I can use the fast connection in university. Oh, and it would be nice if you integrate some of the finished missions so I can check them. Every Fredder has a little different missionstyle and this way I can design my missions similar to the finished ones.

Well Styxx is dead.
To be more precise, Styxx determines the boundary between the land of the living and the land of the dead.  Don't touch it, though, or you'll turn into a zombie or something.

Hi, I'm back. Was out for a few days, sorry for that. I'm still on a paper-writing rampage right now that's taking most of my time, but we're accepting anyone who's genuinely willing to help out. So, just confirm here that you really want to try working on making/finishing a few missions, and I'll get you internal forum access. Thanks for all the replies, I honestly thought that this would pass mostly unnoticed.

:)

Check the MT internal, you can download the mission doc there (you have access now). There are threads detailing which missions are done, so you can work on one that's not done or is yet unfinished. You can also download the latest modpack and missions to check it out before starting work. :)

Now now people, lets not get into a "Earth Pissing" contest, someone always ends up getting hurt. (besides, Robotech Earth owns you all...)  :drevil: Ooops!

And didn't Lucas invent that 64km thingy (forget what it's called) sounds a little BIGGER  Size envy...

I mean on FS2. Before the Apocalypse, people mostly focused on smaller ships, thinking that the engine wouldn't support something so large properly.
Title: Re: Ok, seriously now.
Post by: Snail on January 12, 2007, 12:35:47 pm
Then Inferno came along and stole our idea. In fact, the original Icanus was actually the Apocalypse.
Title: Re: Ok, seriously now.
Post by: Woomeister on January 12, 2007, 12:47:05 pm
Uh you got that a bit wrong there.
We used the Apocalypse beta when the INF campaign was started. The 'original Icanus' is the current Icanus, the Apocaylpse and Icanus are two seperate ship designs, though both have really big guns :D
Our Icanus is used to counter the Gigas, which is our well known super ship.

The Apocaylpse was the first 20km uber ship, but the true Apocalypse hasn't been released yet, since I know there's quite a difference in quality between the beta and final models :)

No I wasn't kicked out, I just helped with the models now and then. The Apoc was a pain to get working originally, I remember that one took me quite some time :)
Title: Re: Ok, seriously now.
Post by: DarkShadow- on January 12, 2007, 04:06:10 pm
Better continue working on INF:A2, there're some models inside I really want to have.  :p
But you could have a look at turret 30 of the you know which GTVA destroyer-POF.  :)

Edit: Sorry Taristin  :nervous:

Polish is stuff like fixing the dialogue and soforth. I can't imagine you are done with balancing and all. :p Though honestly I never had the chance to look at most of the missions, which was one of the reasons I realized I didn't have the time.
Title: Re: Ok, seriously now.
Post by: Snail on June 05, 2007, 12:33:21 pm
Maybe the real answer was... 'finish' the missions. Almost all the missions are already skeletons. They just need to be balanced and so forth.

But the real problem now I think is the mods...
Title: Re: Ok, seriously now.
Post by: DarkShadow- on June 06, 2007, 09:14:53 am
Well, the missions depend on the mods, so we can't finish the missions until all mods are done. Furthermore, I think 'finishing' and balancing the missions takes waaaaay more time then building the skeletons. Yeah, I didn't work much on the missions lately, got my new PC and Supreme Commander, so.... sorry.  :p

I wonder which will come out first ;

BWO or MT?

*starts inciting a race, with his own diabolical plan in mind to make them all work harder*  :drevil:

We're already racing for it, if you didn't notice. Racing very slowly.

Meh BWO will make it out first if we don't have a major reorganization of the way we work. MT internal is literally a mess!

We've got the work done but the organization is horrible. There are threads everywhere and progress is hard to keep track of. I expect BWO may be like that too... :blah:

When it's done. This is a hobby, no one's paying us to do it, so it'll be done when it's done.

And nobody is really able to tell you when we'll be done. We're not just unwilling to tell you (what we nevertheless are  :D), but it's simply not possible to estimate when it'll be completed.

i think everyone knows this, but thanks for posting it, i really think this will be another year thing, somewhere in 2008 i think this will be completed, everyone here has a life so that makes it hard, but from what i understand there is alot of fine tuning and some upgrades to look at and even some missions left to be done(well probably still under fine tuning) so yeah, this has been a long time running project. But all things are good to those that wait.

So, correct me if i'm wrong, but the only thing you guys havent finished yet is the missions?

Nah, then it would just be the fault of us FREDders.
We're also polishing the models and need the backgrounds done. :P
