Title: Gargant Killing Thread: How?
Post by: Kie99 on February 22, 2005, 04:57:26 pm
Well this is the place to talk about how to kill Gargants.  Here's mine:

Fit a subspace drive onto Mars, and hollow out anything below the crust.  make Mars Jump around the Gargant then make it jump into the core of the sun. then force mars to open up, thus killing the Gargant in a fiery deathy manner.

Or you could crush it in a Black Hole!!!

Convert as many factories as you can to the production of Armageddons, and use the black hole effects to tear chunks out of the Gargant until a critical part is exposed. But that's assuming it's a real black hole instead of a really powerful bomb, so this strategy wouldn't work in-game.

Keep the Inferno Team from working on it for as long as possible, then they'll say "It's pretty outdated, like some of our older stuff." Then they'll delete it. No more Gargant.
And the Gargant isn't supposed to die.
But you could always do this:

Alt+~+K ten times
Boom.

Dude, all you have to do is put A MIRROR in front of the Gargant.  Then, when the Gargant fires its beam, it shoots ITSELF. :ha:

Wait, what's wrong with 'you just'? :p

My vote is that you send a ship or fleet of ships inside the hangar bay. With something that big, it just HAS to have some massive vulnerability (unshielded reactor core, open ventilation shaft). Finding it can be another mission for Alpha 1. :D

so apparently ~+k actually does 100,000 damage, which in FS1 was sufficient to kill everything except the lucifer

i think it could be changed.

Actually you see, the Shivans run Windows ME and uh, it crashes and the reactors die.

Ok. The Bravos + they are outfitted with the weapons the Gargant uses.

The Gargants weapons are too weak to damage itself :p

yeah. but it can't exactly damage the bravos either :P

That, and given a few months, I'd bet the Bravos would win too. :P
Title: Gargant Killing Thread: How?
Post by: Woomeister on February 23, 2005, 06:38:45 am
Though the Bravos has 10000000000 HP and the Gargant has only 3000000000, the Bravos has 9 turrets compared to the Gargants 110. So if you give them both the same weapons for each turret, the Gargant can do far more damage.

Supernovas and stuff like that will of course work, but that isn't how the GTVA will deal with the Gargant, though it was something once considered a long time ago.

That's why I don't comment on any that could or would work, since there's no real point in commenting on them, and you'll think your narrowing down to what we plan to do with it :p

All we need is the Governor of California, a very large knife and some dreadful one-liners :D

I actually have an idea how the GTVA might, uh, "deal" with the Gargant, but I'm not about to spoil things by trying to be serious in this thread. :p

There's only 3 of us left working on it, and not much has been done recently. So a 3rd chapter will entirely depend on when chapter 2 is completed.

When a node is collapsed the ships within the tunnel are spewed out. (Ending cutscene of FS1)

Erm...no. The fighters were flying out by themselves.
And the Lucifer wasn't spewed out, the node collapsed when she was halfway out.

Post by: Kie99 on February 25, 2005, 11:10:30 am
The fighters entered the node after the Lucifer, therefore they should have exitted subspace after the Lucifer, but they didn't they exitted at the same time.

Uh if that was true then the fighters shouldn't of been able to catch the Lucifer either.

You can move in subspace but how far you move doesn't effect when you exit subspace, otherwise the Lucifer would have moved to exit the node faster.

Note the speed of the Lucifer

Post by: StratComm on February 25, 2005, 01:03:10 pm
I've seen the shot of the lucifer with its speed reading 0 too many times... the "anchor" of subspace missions, i.e. the capship around which the mission takes place, should move or not move depending on what the mission designer has in mind, nothing more.
Title: Gargant Killing Thread: How?
Post by: Woomeister on February 25, 2005, 01:04:39 pm
I think the Lucifer not moving was probably more so the AI bombers could do their job without killing themselves as the AI seems better at attacking stationery capships.

Title: Gargant Killing Thread: How?
Post by: Striker on February 25, 2005, 01:51:21 pm
Yeah I was about to suggest the subspace idea. But we don't know how fast subspace transmissions work, so there would be a problem co-ordinating when to destroy the node after it has entered. Of course, the GTVA could always create a subspace weapon of their own and use it to take out Gargy.
Title: Gargant Killing Thread: How?
Post by: T-Man on February 25, 2005, 01:53:13 pm
Remember that the background is moving along around you, so perhaps Capital ships can only move at the speed of the subspace tunnel (I.e. 0 in subspace) while smaller fighters are capable of manuvering due to their small size.

Or, maybe a capital ship is the centre of the subspace tunnel we see, with their reactors being the source of the subspace disturbance (in this case, the Lucifer was). If so, then maybe strike craft (fighters and bombers) can actually "surf" the tunnels of larger vessels.

As for the Gargant thing, there's is no such thing as an undefeatable enemy. It'll be dealt with one way or another. As for how, i'll just wait and see what the Inferno team comes up with.

You disarm it by shooting at its turrets with the Icanus' main cannon, then lock it up by melting collapsed Molypedeum Unobtanium Core alloy all over it, then wait for it to run out of supplies and the shield to collapse, then you go in and layeth the SmackDown on the Earth Alliance, just when they think we've become friends!

The subspace weapon is scripted, If you just beam free it and let it do its thing then it doesn't do what we intend it to do. That's so people don't make missions were they accidently enable it and end up destroying everything in the area by accident :D

You wouldn'd need a larger weapon or planet killer to take down the Gargant, all you'd need is several square Kilometres of White Fabric, and an exceedingly powerful projector. When the Gargant approaches the large sheet, you project up on it the dreaded BSOD! And if that doesn't make the Shivan Armada turn tail and run, then...God help us...God help us all...
