Title: Training 2 - Can't Move On
Post by: sharkienaz on July 16, 2010, 04:12:51 pm
I have beaten the mission "Training 2" multiple times but am unable to progress. I defeat all of the drones and then eliminate all of the hostile fighters that enter the area. The game alerts me that I've completed the primary objective.  I am ordered to return to base and do so.  The post-mission briefing screen congratulates me on a job well done, but when I choose "accept" I'm given the "You Have Failed this Mission" dialog.  My only choices are to replay the mission or return to briefing/flight deck.  This has happened to me 8 different times. I've tried everything I can think of to get the mission to recognize that it's complete.  Any suggestions?

unusual one, what build are you using and have you tried creating a new pilot

I'm new to the Open Source and modded versions of Freespace.

I'm running Inferno 3.6.12 on my mac.  I just tried again with a newly created pilot and am having the same issue. I noticed that there is a primary objective requiring my wing-mates to keep their health above 50.  The objective goes away after we start engaging the "real" enemies but I'm wondering if it's still failing me since my wing-mates take damage during the battle?  Since the game doesn't offer targeting at this point, I only have the wing-mate indicators to go on, and I usually end up with a few of them in the red.

Yes, this is an acknowledged bug that will be fixed in the next release.  I apologize for the delay. :(  In the meantime, you can click on the "skip mission" button in the briefing, and you'll move to the next mission without missing anything.

I can't skip training mission 2. I'm using all 7 of the vp files with a brand new pilot file. I tried using both the Act I campaign file and the combined campaign file. Running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Using fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe

I click "yes" and it just brings me back to training mission 2.

I switched to fs2_open_3_6_12d_INF_SSE2.exe

Upon clicking "ready room" I got this error, but was able to continue:
Code: [Select]

Can't get past training 2 as well, I do everything right (debrief even says so) and it still says I failed the mission. Skip button just brings me back to the same mission.

Used cheats to kill myself 5 times and that didn't work either lol

(am using a 3 6 12 inf .exe)

Uh, that sounds exactly like the issue I got back when Act I Demo was released. Did someone include the faulty training mission into this release?

:wtf: Bizarre.  Because I definitely double-checked the sexps involved and we included the fixed mission.

Hmm.  I have a hunch.  Redownload the missions zip and try again.

Checked the campaign file, found the error

Currently it contains:
Code: [Select]
$Mission: TVWPch1t02.fs2
+Flags: 0
;;FSO 3.6.8;; +Debriefing Persona Index: 0
+Formula: ( cond
   (
      ( or
         ( and
            ( is-event-true "Incoming pirates" )
            ( is-goal-false "Protect" )
         )
         ( and
            ( is-event-true "Guard Kappa 4" )
            ( is-goal-true "Protect" )
         )
      )
      ( next-mission "TVWPch1m01.fs2" )
   )
   ( ( true ) ( next-mission "TVWPch1t02.fs2" ) )
)

This should be:

Code: [Select]
$Mission: TVWPch1t02.fs2
+Flags: 0
;;FSO 3.6.8;; +Debriefing Persona Index: 0
+Formula: ( cond
   (
      ( or
         ( and
            ( is-event-true "Incoming pirates" )
            ( is-goal-false "Protect" )
         )
         ( and
            ( is-event-true "Guard Kappa 4" )
            ( is-goal-true "Protect" )
         )
      )
      ( next-mission "TVWPch1t02.fs2" )
   )
   ( ( true ) ( next-mission "TVWPch1m01.fs2" ) )
)

You've switched TVWPch1t02.fs2 and TVWPch1m01.fs2 around making it loop. :)

Well a ''solution'' could be playing it through the tech room, using the conbination of ctrl+shift+w to view all the missions , but is a bit -no confortable-

Uh, no.  The first campaign branch is the continuation branch, so it should point to the next mission.  The second branch is the loop branch, so it should loop back to the current mission.

The problem is more subtle... there's something wrong with the sexp logic.  Though I can't imagine what, as the sexps are nearly identical to the ones in the debriefing.

That definitely fixes it though. I swapped the two and continued (skipped it) just fine.
Well, that's probably because something's causing that one to autofail...

I can't skip the second training mission, and when I play through it and succeed, I get a fail screen and have to restart. It's happened twice now.

What if you can't skip it?

Bah.  I messed up writing the sexps; it was immediately obvious once I loaded it up in the Campaign Editor. :sigh:

Try downloading the missions.zip again.  I played through the training and was able to successfully advance to the next mission.

Good :-)
While skipping still doesnt work, it is now possible to advance when played.

Cool. Seems whatever I did worked as a temporary fix but not the way it should, no. :)
