Using files from other mods (licence and legality)
(1/1)
topas:
Hello,
Can someone tell me about the legal or licencing terms of copying or say using files from other mods?
I create my own mission for a multiplayer mod I plan to publish and I found very good skyboxes in blue planet.
Since I don't have skyboxes, nor the time to create them and even if - I couldn't make them look better than the ones from blue planet - I would like to use them in my mission/map.
I searched for licences in the blue planet mod and also for licencing topics in the forums, but I found no answer that makes me able to proceed in a specific way.
How is this done? Are people modding by reusing stuff from other mods?
Do original mod creators care if people do this?
Can I reuse the skyboxes from blue planet?
Is there something I have to take care of?
Best wishes to you all.
Trivial Psychic:
Give credit where credit is due, and don't use something that hasn't been released yet... you may get some blow-back. Otherwise, it's a free system.
Grizzly:
The skyboxes in BP were made by HerraTohtori and Darius (iirc). Don´t worry about re-using assets: BP itself already re-uses a lot of assets from other mods too (inferno, ASW, some others I can´t remember), and assets created for BP can and are freely used in other mods.
I don´t know of any mod that actually restricts its assets on HLP.

I've personally started clarifying that with all my asset releases and the only "restriction" is that credit is given. So really just writing down the advice the community has given for years.
