GTB Phoebus

This is the first of a hopefully long series of model releases. We're now presenting you the GTB Phoebus, cockpitted and with awesome maps.

Is this that bomber from Paradigm Shift? If so, it's not exactly new.

Sorry, I am an asshole.

Well, if you take a look at the cockpit and textures, you'd notice the difference.

On a side note, the download's been authorized again. Get it while it's hot!

Who the frakking frak would name a campaign "paradigm shift" for the love of frakking Cthulhu come on now

also, nice bomber although I don't see much in the way of normal mapping

It's from before Paradigm Shift IIRC, prolly ex-Reciprocity. But I suspect the new part is the cockpit.

It's from the original Casualties of War originally.

It was made by Aldo for one of his campaigns (not Lost Souls).

It's not HTL, it just has a cockpit and a newer texture.

Spoiler:
Could you release the old cockpitted Claymore from the glory shots thread next? Please? Pretty please? I've been lusting after that model for years and I've been told you don't use it anymore.

That's a remapped INFR1 claymore with a pair of growths.

Post by: Woolie Wool on February 19, 2011, 12:08:28 pm
Uh, whut? The whole model is entirely different--the body is thicker, the contours smoother, the nose doesn't resemble the INFR1 model at all.

Plus it has canards, which the INFR1 Claymore Mk. I did not have.
There's a newer version of the same model in the above image too, Shadow Genesis (I believe it's this) will be using the displayed image as far as I know and the upcoming Inferno has the newest model.

While models are being released, is there any chance of the old GTCv Erinome from INFA being released publicly? The old model which AFAIK is not used anywhere anymore.
Title: Re: Model Release I: GTB Phoebus

The main problem would be the quality of the model, which is too low to justify all the attention it'd get in case of release.

In fact, I think that Inferno could dump all the old stuff it's no longer using, even if it's really old.
Somebody will find an use for it, or maybe even make a HTL version.

Fortunately, this is no news: the Phoebus and Bastions are available in case anyone wants to upgrade them, and future releases will also be fully available for the same purpose. We'd like to release models progressively because large modeldumps may be a bit confusing and time-confusing (remember that our main focus now is INFR1U).

I'd like to see the corvette and Claymore Mk.1, that's for sure.
Also, it's rather difficult to confuse time, but I think that compiling a modeldump may be time-consuming. [/grammar nazi]  :)

I do recall from one of the old Inferno websites, that there was to be a model in R2 that used Fenris-like textures, called the Bellerophon.  I recall that it seemed to get a decent amount of attention in those days, but I have never seen the model released in the days since.  Are there still plans to use this design (though perhaps upgraded) in the new R2, or can it be released publicly... or has the model been lost through some HDD failure?
Title: Re: Model Release I: GTB Phoebus

I believe it's still used in Inferno.

See! Lots of people could use it. Woolie could also use it in one of his campaigns since he makes extensive use of ships of that style.
Title: Re: Model Release I: GTB Phoebus
Post by: Woomeister on March 20, 2011, 07:46:52 am
Well we are talking 200-600 polygon ships here, not stuff like we've been showcasing in the eyecandy thread. These are more the type of things that I'd dump in a huge zip alltogether because they aren't worth being released as singular official use ships nowadays. Plus we have to revamp the tables to remove armour coding and none released weapons as well as making them compatable with the mediavp textures so they can be used for anything.
Title: Re: Model Release I: GTB Phoebus
Post by: Snail on March 20, 2011, 07:47:44 am
None of that is really necessary. All of that can be done by the end user. If the end user wants to use it, they should be the ones doing the work, basically.
Title: Re: Model Release I: GTB Phoebus
Post by: Dragon on March 20, 2011, 07:58:12 am
If you'd dump that in a huge .zip, then do just that.
Just upload it somewhere else than to Fileplanet.
Everybody who'd like to use one of these ships would have to edit tables a bit, but that shouldn't be a problem for anybody who's using custom ships anyway.
Title: Re: Model Release I: GTB Phoebus
Post by: Woomeister on March 20, 2011, 08:02:40 am
We'll end up getting flooded with 'it doesn't work' posts if we don't unless we state its a full model dump, but single release ships have to be fully useable at least or there's no point releasing them separately.
I do want to keep a specific level of quality control on things getting released, so that we don't get loads of complaints later.
Title: Re: Model Release I: GTB Phoebus
Post by: Dragon on March 20, 2011, 08:04:40 am
Making a full model dump is exactly what I suggested (I guess that only a few of these ships are good enough to warrant a full release).

If it was a true model dump then yes I would just dump the pofs with no other files or support, but that would take time to build and Mobius wants this ship released right now, so it has to be fully useable as a standalone release model. Some models would need to be returreted though if they use our custom turret maps as those wouldn't be in the pack.

As for the stuff dumped from the anniversary release I'm withholding that for a specific reason. I actually want to release them separately with FULL Inferno compatability with that release as if they were never cut. So if you want to have the Ryujin back in there, then you have the choice to download it separately. But if it gets released now that will not happen as I'll consider it done and not worth the bother as others can do it themselves then since they have the files they need to do so. But of course if you can't mod then you're out of luck until someone shares their version.
Title: Re: Model Release I: GTB Phoebus
Post by: Mobius on March 20, 2011, 08:15:55 am
I think all released models should have a working table entry and adequate tech descriptions. I'm not a big fan of POFs and texturers literally thrown to the public with a big "do the rest of the job yourselves, dear end users" written on the package. ;)
Title: Re: Model Release I: GTB Phoebus
Post by: Dragon on March 20, 2011, 08:22:02 am
They should, but table entries could be unaltered from Inferno ones, since most designers change armament anyway.
Release with full compatiblity to Inferno would be a great thing though, far better than a single modeldump.
Title: Re: Model Release I: GTB Phoebus
Post by: Mobius on March 20, 2011, 08:31:31 am
I would personally prefer full compatibility with vanilla FS2 or the FSPort over compatibility with Inferno. It makes things so much easier for the end user.

Table entries will be obviously changed, of course, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't provide them or people will have nothing to work on. Also, I strongly believe each released ship should have a tech description explaining what it was meant for.

We use different Ai settings, armour code settings and sometimes even sound offsets for engines, it's not as simple as just changing weapons to get it to work with another mod, everything has to be checked.

Probably the Bellerophon.
