I went back to playing Inferno Release 1. Here are fivefour shots using Spidey's light settings.









There is also an additional fifth shot, but in addition to looking horrible, that also exposes a glitch with the Vela Cargo. :nervous:

I knew it was worth waiting to play the latest FSPort until I got my new PC, so I could enjoy it in ridiculously high resolution and with all the bells and whistles...

Even the first training mission looks spectacular now.

Well, that allows you to add entries to the tables, but actually creating new models, textures, and effects is an entirely different story.

Depends on what kind of creating you mean. If you just want to modify ships or make new ships based off of available models, then all you need is notepad.

If you intend to make completely new models, you'll need several programs. One that is capable of doing 3D modelling and texturing and can export to either Collada .dae or TrueSpace .cob formats, and then you'll need one to convert the files to the game's .pof format, which is usually accomplished with Pof Creator Suite 2.0

Looking at those shots, there's one thing that stands out that needs improvement - anti-aliasing. Is there no AA due to a problem with the FS engine?

Sorry, mon. I think I had it off in the Launcher when I took those shots. Apparently having AA set to something from the driver settings didn't make a difference.

Just asking cuz the resized, smaller pics embedded in the thread actually look better than the full-sized pics, due to the natural anti-aliasing that comes from shrinking the pics... ;)

Well, Anti-Aliasing does work in FS, but to me it's a performance hit for little benefit.

At least on NVidia, Full Screen Anti-Aliasing causes a strange problem with flickering flecks appearing behind the thruster flames. With no AA, they are not there. Dunno if the ATi/AMD cards do the same.

I still use AA with FS2_Open but it's sometimes a bit annoying to say the least. It's also somewhat inconsistent since for example Zacam can apparently use FSAA without it and on his rig it's tied to one of the optimizing options (trilinear optimization or somesuch). And I don't know if it's related to NVidia or drivers or FS2_Open... :blah:

Also, the in-built anisotropic filtering option in FS2_Open is pants. It looks really bad compared to driver level AF, which is why I use that instead of the Launcher option.

As far as what the difference between AA and no AA is... well, this handy page explains it quite well. :p
