That would explain it. I can't run with normal maps, I just end up with the framerate dropping and no graphical change.

I can run with all enhancements. No problem there, but this is a computer that sometimes gets 4 fps playing Crysis on low settings. I guess it just can't process everything.

My computer would probably overheat just trying to start Crysis. Sure I use low resolution and FSO is not always smooth, but I can usually get it as pretty as theirs. O_o

Why even play crysis? If you want to see how slow your computer gets while running it, there's always the demo.

As it turns out, baking textures from high-poly models works quite nicely.  Here is what I managed to do with the beam cannon texture used on StratComm's models.  Even managed to bake a normal map with very little effort.
