Re: An anthropomorphization of Freespace

ROW ROW FIGHT DA POWA

If someone actually tried to get FS2 Open to render TTGL, how fast do you think the game engine would crash?  I'm pretty sure the thing's size vastly exceeds whatever limits are built into the engine's coordinate systems.

Though, the moon-sized mecha might be possible.

Re: An anthropomorphization of Freespace
Is it even remotely possible to create a model that big? I can't even see Arc Gurren being doable ingame, much less something that spans galaxies.

....But if we did it for Star Ruler....

We had an Earth model for awhile. INFR1 used it so it could be blown up if you failed a mission.

That was used in the Tanen escort mission, right?

Re: An anthropomorphization of Freespace
To handle objects of absurd size you have to have an engine capable of generalizing terrain LOD rendering to models, and probably some method of handling insane scale differences. I'm sure the FS engine could handle fairly large models simply by modern graphics cards brute forcing it.

It is possible, however, to render absurd scales because you never require high precision at extreme distances, so if your galaxy was being rendered with a unit precision of ten light years it'd be perfectly fine as long as it was really far away, since the andromeda galaxy moving 10 light years isn't even visible. Unfortunately no modern 3D graphics engine bothers to do this. Yet.

It was used in Nemesis, and maybe the mission prior I'm not entirely sure.

You thought furries, yet you clicked on it anyway.  Hoping it wasn't furries?  Or maybe not... O.O
