New BritanniaInitially started out as an alliance between four great houses, to put up an united front against the ever expanding Sol Union. These well developed and influential border worlds had already established a strong cultural identity, and were afraid they would lose much of their independence if they were to be integrated into the Sol Union.
During the first war with the Sol Union, a strong leader from the Duchy of Arc Victoria emerged. This leader, Jaden Arc Victoria, managed to lead the alliance to a narrow victory against overwhelming odds. After settling a truce with Sol Force, he turned this alliance between unaligned borders worlds into a new power bloc and made himself into its monarch. Thus New Britannia was born, with Arc Victoria as its new royal house.
Present dayNew Britannia is the second largest of all the factions, with a population roughly 40% percent smaller than that of Sol Union. Its current monarch is 15 year old Amalia Arc Victoria, who ascended the throne after the former King and Queen died in an unfortunate subspace accident. (This is still a hot topic for debate; Was it an actual accident? Or an assassination through sabotage?) A girl with a lot of spunk, flair for dramatics and giving speeches, she has little issue filling the big shoes her parents left behind.
Its navy, the Commonwealth Royal Fleet (CRF) is highly respected and feared even amongst the other factions. The royal admirals are renowned for their honor and skill and draw from a pool of very motivated officers. Unfortunately the CRF is hampered by New Britannia's wavering economy, and frequently finds itself forced into making uncomfortable compromises in regards with material and equipment. It also tends to lag behind in research and development. But none of this can ever temper the high spirits of the Knights of the CRF.
Other noteworthy sub factionsNew Britannia is divided in four major houses.
- Duchy of Arc Victoria: While only third in terms of systems and population controlled, it wields the most power and has the most powerful fleet out of all the houses. All but two of the monarchs ruling New Britannia have come from Arc Victoria.
- Dukedom of Estoria: Has possession of the most systems and largest population but has a low influence in state affairs relative to its actual size.
- Exarchate of Pegasus: The smallest of the houses, but all of its planets are well developed core worlds. Pegasus is capable of exercising significant influence and has always actively vied for more. The only house to deliver a monarch other than Arc Victoria.
- Governorate of Sidonirad: Very little actual power, most of its systems are poorly developed border systems. While still counted as one of the four major houses, it is mostly ignored when one accounts for might and influence, despite its not insignificant population size.
- The Church: A lot of Britannians are pious and hold strong moral believes (especially when it comes to genetic human alterations), and the church has thrived on it. Strongly promoting the image that the ideal Britannian is that of a virtuous knight. They have their own military arm, Knight Templars, that recruits only the most devout and capable.
Relation to other factionsSol Union: Eternal rival, though relations recently have mostly been peaceful because of the Sol Union's passivity and the CRF's focus on the Delest Dynasty
United Guilds of Commerce: Holds a lot of monetary debt, causing frequent political conflict that occasionally amounts into low key military conflict. Both sides are sure to never escalate this conflict though. The UGC would ruin Britannia financially, while the CRF would devastate the UGCR militarily. A mutually assured destruction.
Delest Dynasty: Very strong dislike, frequently at war. Irreconcilable moral views.
View on the League StarForcesNew Britannia is an active supporter of the League Starforces, and has a contributed a fair amount of political effort and military equipment and supplies towards it. The CRF, however, has issues finding suitable voluntary military personnel to contribute, due to the reluctance of having to work together with people from the DD.
Fleet doctrineThe Commonwealth Royal Fleet does not hold itself to a single fleet doctrine and strive to be as flexible as possible, and adapt as the situation requires. While the fleet itself has a lot of stiff traditions and military protocol, it is very self aware of it and prides itself on not letting itself get mired down by that
