OH, now I see. Well, I never got the FS1 demo since the full version (on DVD-ROM) came with my present computer. It's what got me hooked. So, if you can send me the FS1 hacked version, I'll convert it to FS2 with my mods. I put that mission up for separate download when my site first started, and I didn't have entire acts ready yet.
Yes, the Bastion in FS1 and FS2 are the same ship. The model, as well as that for the Galatea, was modified from the default Orion to show the nameplate. I renamed the table entry so everybody could use it in FRED2. (Remember to get the fix mission for Titans II.) Do you want my personal opinion why the Bastion was never overhauled? Too bad, you're getting it anyway.
After the destruction of the Lucifer, the Bastion was known throughout the galaxy as the ship that won the Great War. The loss of such an historic ship would be catastrophic, so it was decommissioned and put into drydock in Beta Aquilae, the GTVA capital, as a museum for the Great War. They renovated the interior and made it a tourist destination and memorial for all those lives lost. When the Shivans came to Capella, and the plan was hatched to collapse the jump node, the Bastion was chosen for three reasons: One, it was relatively empty, without all the upgraded weapons or crew. Once the artifacts were transferred elsewhere, it was relatively easy to pack the empty hull with meson bombs. Second, every commissioned beam-capable ship was desperately needed to defend GTVA space. The Bastion was probably the largest ship avaliable at that time. Third, perhaps the curator of the Bastion decided that if it was going to be destroyed, it should be destroyed in the most dignified way possible. The Bastion won the first Great War, and by collapsing the node, it would end the second as well.
Thanks for the feedback!
