Title: Forum Moderator and passoff
Post by: CSA-DarthVader on October 06, 2008, 06:55:21 am
Well its kinda come down to some possibilities for this project.
First off, Styxx has been inactive for some time, I was wondering if anyone else has talked to or communicated somehow with him, if hes off the project yada yada. secondly if no one has communicated with him, should or even can we replace him as a mod?
also i have noticed some of the original team seems to be lacking in the department of givin a damn(as far as forum attitude goes) If they gave up, is there any possibility of getting whats done(mission outlines, missions, models ect.), someone else can pick up the baton and go you know, its not like the end of the world!

No, well Styxx is only one who can decide things like that and since he haven't been around for a while

And no the team isn't on "I don't give a damn mode"... we're just very busy people, who have jobs\uni\whatever...

Although If I may say so, for someone who seems to claim to "give a damn", I haven't seen YOU doing anything in the last years to change the state of this project, except complain and moan...
Yeah we know, you don't know how to model\texture\FRED\whatever... guess what that was never an excuse, because it isn't that hard to learn any of those.
TBH it tickles me that for all this years I see people asking us to get stuff done, and yet they do nothing themselves to get things done.

That said, I don't agree on Gloriano's opinion.
Styxx has just disapeared of the radar... he doesn't even show up on MSN for a long time (which is strange). Heck he might even be dead (exagerating, and of course I hope not) for all we know.
Given that its up to the rest of the crew to decide what to do next. Not the forum moderators, not the fans, not anyone else. We are aware of all the options, so don't worry.

IMO, unless some miracle worker comes around and gives everyone tons of motivation and reorganizes the project, MT is in hibernation.

Could I help the MT Project out? I mean, I've been in HLP for about 4/5's of a year but I haven't really contributed much, so I could I start here?
Not really great at anything apart from FREDding, but hey, I'm still learning.
So I'd be happy to join, if you want me.

You had better go start somewhere else like NTV because right now we don't need more staff. NTV does though...

What do you mean?

If MT doesn't need more staff how do you intend to replace the inactive members? New and motivated members can help.

MT hired several "new motivated members" in the past 2 years. The only ones who have really done any more than a modicum of work for the project was DarkShadow-. The rest of the many people hired in the past two years, me included, have done barely 1 or 2 missions for the project. New members is not what we need at this point.

It doesn't mean new members aren't going to succeed where you and the other "motivated members who joined in the past 2 years" failed.

With many members in MIA status and no need to recruit, what are you going to do?

We'll obtain some organisation and see what becomes necessary.

eliex, despite what Snail has claimed, I'm sure your help will be much apreciated :)

Please send a sample mission or two to Spicious, Mobius or DarkShadow so we can just evaluate what you can do, and know how much we should expect :)
Title: Re: Forum Moderator and passoff

Why would he send me a sample mission for MT?

I'd suggest you guys to reform the modpack and remove all alternate, unused and useless versions of the stuff you already have. In order to do this contact the team member that surely has all the stuff saved on his PC...
Title: Re: Forum Moderator and passoff
Post by: Raven2001 on October 12, 2008, 08:21:43 am
So you can evaluate it scripting wise... I don't do it myself because, well, I don't know **** about fredding :P
Title: Re: Forum Moderator and passoff
Post by: Mobius on October 12, 2008, 11:06:02 am
It's not a matter of FREDding...it's a matter of picking up a member of the team who has the latest versions of the files. That'll prevent vital and recent files from being overwritten by old ones in your effort to recreate the modpack. :)

Oh that... I was talking about Eliex's sample mission, which won't be tied to MT obviously :P

As for the rest, I'll resume the conversation in the internal

y'know, i just might be interested in helping you guys out with modelling and organisation... if anyone's interested to see my models, drop me a pm

as for organisation... well, i managed to get TAP back to the "Up and running with me and 4 people actually doing something other than just responding to posts in the internal." :p

Yup, I'll pm it to all of you.

Here is my mission, titled . . . The First of Many
It is an adaptation of a chapter I read in the book, "The Crow," by Alison Croggon, where the Black Army after the sack of Jerr-Niken move on to the Il Dara Wall. However, I had to change some things, else might as well read a book!  ;)

I've decided to allow anyone to test it - so I'm putting it here.
  The First of Many (http://www.geocities.com/punggol296/eliexSamplemission.zip)

It is "winnable" on medium difficulty, but only if you do the right things! (sort of  :nervous:)

Actually, I might post a walkthrough now, so when you play it, you can see why I did certain things.

It is ideal for you to check the weapons and ships available, because really, at the end of the mission, you need all the hull integrity you can get.

For the first 2 minutes, just listen to the radio-chatter that your wingmates are making. Also, have a good look around at the defences your Cluster is composed of, so when the enemy turns up, you know where to fight.
When the Black Army Scout arrives, again, listen to the radio chatter. In about 30secs, it will disappear into subspace. There should be a "tense" silence before the BA Cai (for Black Army Cai) arrives.

*Spectacular Display!!* The BA Cai, along with its complement of corvettes, renamed Dogsoldiers, and cruisers appear out of subspace about 4000-5000m away from the terrified defenders. However, due to the tactics of the Black Army, the Cai just sends in waves and waves of fighters to attack.
The charge normally takes about 40secs, so you can plan out your strategy. It is a VERY GOOD idea to order your wingmen to guard the Amdridh, one of your cruisers, as 1. Your few fighters stay together 2. There is anti-fighter beams nearby. 3. At the end, you will have many surviving wingmen

There should be heavy fighting, but do not go beyond 2000m of the Amdridh, because it is highly likely you will be killed. So stay close to the Amdridh.

Finally, when the fighter and bomber wings are down, sit back and relax as the surviving pilots nervously await what the BA Cai is going to do. Finally, it decides to charge into the Cluster. The remaining RBCs and the SCv Ir-Ytan is standing by to try and cripple the Cai as much as they can.

However, a Dogsoldier (corvette) jumps directly in the middle of the Cluster along with several wings of fighters and bombers and attacks the Cluster. You are ordered to make a deathrun to the jump node, about 4000m from the Amdridh. Banshee wing, is ordered specifically to destroy you, so don't dwadle!

Close in on the Il Dara Jump, a navbuoy to about 1000m and engage your subspace drive. It triggers a red-alert, and perhaps I'll make the mission after that in my spare time.

Walkthrough end.

This particular mission is supposed to have some shock effect to it - although since I beta-tested it for about 12 times now, the shocks have sort of worn off.
Have a nice play with it, and perhaps enjoy it as well!  :D

A pretty cool mission.
Title: Re: Forum Moderator and passoff
Post by: eliex on October 18, 2008, 05:58:55 pm
Error Compilation by testers so far . . .

* The event for making Reaper and Banshee wing specifically destroy Alpha 1 occurs to early, and the player dies too easily.
Suggestion - Make event occur about 10 secs later to give a decent head-start.

* Shar wing's first wave usually lives right through the entire heavy battle, and its second wave will then appear right after Shar's first wave destroyed, which wastes about 40secs of mission time, and bores the player.
Suggestion - Change number of waves of Shar Wing to 1.

These are just some of the mistakes I've made in the FREDding part of the mission. Any additional problems, I'll update this post later on

It's got a pretty hilarious fantasy theme that had me snickering all the way through though... Not necessarily a bad thing.

And yes, it is a very good mission. Well designed and balanced.

Well, working on 3 mods (MT & my own work) made my FS2-folder a little bit... messy. Messy enough that I can't open the mission in FRED / play it. However, remembering someone's custom title (I think it was Goober...) "Real Fredders use notepad", I just checked the mission that way.  :D

From what I saw, it looks like good work.

I know the importance of Notepad(I used it several times to fix FRED bugs) but testing is pretty vital.

I wasn't expecting us to be un-archived so soon to be honest, because we still need to get ourselves sorted before we can resume work.

Still things seem to be coming back on track :)
