Title: Missing Jump Node in FRED 2

I was just making a mission in FRED 2 and tried to place a jump node. When I clicked the selection box drop down I could not find it. :confused: There is a blank space between Shivan Comm Node and Waypoint objects, but when I select it and place it on the map a Shivan Comm Node appears. I have not done any modding or added any other files so I am wondering where it is. Any ideas?

Sounds like you don't have the 1.2 retail patch.  If you have the retail CD's then you can grab it here:  http://165thbdhr.com/files/fs21x-12.exe

If you bought it from GOG then check the support forum.  Lobo just posted a link about how to update it or you can try downloading from GOG again I've heard they have updated the install but have no confirmation on this.

Strange. On the main FS2 selling page GOG mentioned that their product was patched to the latest official version.

From what I've heard, it used to be unpatched for some reason, but they've fixed it recently. Or something.

Yep. They made a mistake with the first version they sold and then fixed it around October/November. IIRC. So there are stlll some unpatched versions floating about.

I would just like to know if I installed the patch right. As I said earlier I got FS2 from GOG and downloaded the HotUv1.20Pack rar file and unzipped it. I put all the exe. files and the one other file in my root folder (keeping backups of the old exe. files). It fixed the missing Jump Node in FRED but when I tried to play the game it asked for a disk. So I when back to my root folder and replace the FreeSpace2.exe and FS2.exe with the old ones. Now it everything works fine but I am unsure if I did it right.

Replacing the Root_fs2.vp file in your \freespace2\ folder with the one in the crack pack is sufficient.

It only works when I have the Root_fs2.vp and FRED2.exe from the patch file in my root folder. The Jump Node is still missing with just the Root_fs.vp file. Will it be a problem if I have both files in there? Also how will this affect multiplayer? Will any one I play with need both files or just the Root_fs.vp?

If that's the way it works, put the Root_fs2 and the FRED exe from the pack to \freespace2\.

FRED is completely unrelated to playing multiplayer.

My advice would be to use the vp and FRED.exe from the pack and the FS2.exe and Freespace2.exe from GoG. From what I've heard their exe has a better no CD crack than mine did.

THERE IS NO NEED to install a patch for this  :)
Right click on the screen (FRED 2) and go to New Object Type --> Jump Node
Then CTRL+Left Click and boom! Instant jump node!

To patch the game to 1.2 from 1.0...without which, if I recall correctly, you'll be unable to run Freespace Open.
