When this is finished, will Turey's Installer include it as an option?

Ok, fine.  Maybe I'll try to do it.  No guarantees about when it'll get done, though.

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
I should be able to, one moment.
Done.

*Note: This is simply the mission files (including training missions) and does not include the Lightspeed Nebulae. If those are needed as well, I should manage to be able to host those to.

**Note: This is an original contents file, nothing has been modified in any way since it's download.

I get a hotlinking error when trying to download these, and copy/pasting the URL to just the adress bar instead of clicking on the link doesn't fix the issue :/

Could some kind soul please upload/rapidshare these somewhere?

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae

Welcome to the HLP Station. Exits are located to the right, left, up, down, and 4th-dimensionally. However all of them are blocked, except the 4-d one, and no one's yet figured how to reach it. Somebody says there is anoter one in the 5th dimension: if you find it, let us know! In the event of a landing of any kind, you can and will be used as a flotation device. We are currently suffering from technical problems from time to time, which may cause the lights go out at any instance, and sometimes even the basic life support fails for some time. At these times, stay calm and composed; for these cases the station system automatically drops a computer from the roof above you with FSO installed and ready. They have independent power sources. Please keep all appendages within the installation at all times. Do not feed the resident Shivan Carl as he will become voracious and, if you are lucky he will chew your leg off; if you are not, you can imagine what will happen. You can find him in the ventilation duct. Throw him your lunch and hope he is not hungry and leaves you alone. Flamethrowers can be found under your seat but due to financial constraints have been re-filled with holy water. Phased Plasma rifles (40 watt range of course) can be found in storage lockers. To prevent act of n00b, however, these can only be opened by Moderators, Volition or a hyperintelligent shade of BluE. Please remember that any attempt to use the ASCII characters 0046h, 0053h, and 0033h in sequential order will result in you being trampled by the whole FreeSpace community. Your trampled remains will be fed to Carl so that the rest of us don't have to carry around so much food for lunch. If you shall go in the Vasudan section of the station and find a boxes labelled “Headz”, please don’t open them, unless you are a Vasudan. Trust me on this one.... In the event of catastrophic hull failure please board the nearest lifeboat which is pre-programmed for autonomous flight to our sister station the Game-Warden outpost. Thank you and enjoy your stay at Hard Light station as long as you will!

is the download link still working?
Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made
Were every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade
To write the love of God above, would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky!

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae

Hah, thanks. I just got in a mood to re-play Freespace 2 yesterday, so I figured I ought to grab all the new bells and whistles you guys have created along the years.  My last run is from... sometime before SCP became the SCP, I think :p.

...And I see Carl-the-Shivan has apparently has found a new home after the VBB went down. Not really sure that is a good thing, though...   ;7

Edit: Nope, Link's still no worky :/

Here it is again.  I have a later WIP, but half of it is using the new suns, and half not, so I will just upload the original file for now.

Any chance you can release what you have right now?  The only reason I'm truly interested is to see how the second version of "Their Finest Hour" is like with the ships firing their beams as they are supposed to......

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
Nelson, you've done it again. Ever since getting hold of Lightspeed's Nebulae and playing Derelict I've been dying to see the FS2 main campaign featuring them. I especially liked what you did to Gamma Draconis. Red sunlight shimmering on ships, eery purple nebulae in the background and the ever so mysterious Knossos device in the middle of it was truly breathtaking. I just finished As Lightning Fall and I have only two things to complain about.

1. In Rebels & Renegades I noticed that the Hinton was on a direct collission course towards the Iceni from it's starboard side just before the Iceni jumped away. It may not be anything too serious since the Iceni managed to jump out of the way and both ships were saved but just thought I'd bring it up.

2. When playing As Lightning Fall, the game really, really lagged. The only time this has happened to me before was in Derelict, in the mission involving a big Shivan fleet and two Pegasus fighters. It may very well be my laptop's fault because there is a lot of **** in both of those missions but it never happened when I had the LS Nebulae and was playing the original campaign. Feel free to mock me if it's just a case of inadequate hardware.

Still, thank you for doing this to the campaign.

BTW, when is version 3.1 of the Port coming out?

It is better, but the Sobek's maneuvering needs to be changed as the Shivan cruisers do not enter its beam firing arcs.  When I get it all cleaned up it will be released.

Lightspeed made that particular background, not me, although I did edit it a bit.

I didn't touch the nebula missions.  Something else must be responsible.

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
Well now I feel ashamed. I meant Into the Lion's Den, not As Lightning Fall. Please forgive me. I had a severe headache when I posted the feedback. Guess I won't be writing any impudent comments the next time the headache occurs.
So, like I said, 'twas Into the Lion's Den that acted like "sir Lags-a-Lot". Could it be because there are a lot of ships and especially numerous Sathanes hatching their evil plans there? Also, you did seem to apply quite a lot of nebulae there. I only saw a couple of small black spots. Oh well. Guess I'll have to wait until I get a permanent job and can afford to buy some serious hardware. Still, this mission is one of my personal favorites.

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
Ah yes, that might be it. This damn computer of mine has an Ati Mobility Radeon X1600. And I curse HypermemoryTM to the deepest, darkest corner of Hell. I'm not really familiar with these mobility models. If someone knows more then please fill me on the details.
The control panel states that it has 512MB but I don't know. And if that's the amount that it eats from my 1GB of RAM, then I shall indeed be sad.
Luckily the lagging has only occured in Into the Lion's Den and that reconnaissance mission in Derelict.
In the end, I didn't even buy this laptop as a gaming computer. Just played FS2 every now and then and eventually got acquainted and really excited with SCP. If it really is the graphics card that's the bottleneck, then the only proper answer to the problem is "**** happens".

As a side note, I have read Goob's speech and still want to bring up the fact that I indeed am a new guy.

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
:welcome:

Welcome, Lobo.  Enjoy your stay.

Try this thread, see if that helps.  IDK, but it can't hurt.  Also, you can usually upgrade your memory... what's your laptop make / model, I can look it up for you if you want.  (There's usually two memory chips, one internal & one externally accessible... you can change both, but some laptop manufacturers don't let you know this.  eg, if you had 1GB (512x2) of memory, they'd say you can upgrade it to 1.5 GB (1x1GB, 1x512MB)... you could actually upgrade to 2GB (2x2GB), you'd just have to open the keyboard, which is pretty easy. (I've done it before.)  Also, check if your laptop supports dual channel memory; if it does, that will double you memory speed, which is good for performance (both system, and if GFX card uses system memory, then possibly good for GFX performance, too, I'm not sure.)  You can find instructions on how to open your laptop internal memory bay on the Internet.  (That's where I found the instructions for my Dad's Compaq R3000.)

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
Here's the product page of my laptop, though it is in Finnish. The info is also somewhat limited, since they only announce that it has 1GB of Kingston ValueRAM. I did consult the manual and it says that the computer has two memory slots. I'd also suspect that each can handle a memory circuit up to 1GB, bringing the max amount of memory to 2GB.
Luckily the manual also points out the section of the computer where the memory slots are. So I guess I'll have to find a proper screwdriver and pry the damn thing open to see whether there's one 1GB or two 512MB circuits inside. In any case increasing the memory would probably indeed be the only option here.
As for the defragmentation thing, I have been running xp's own defrag tool every now and then so that probably isn't the case. There's little stuff on the hard drive so the defragmentation time is usually somewhere around one hour.
Anyways, thanks for the tips.

If you remove the lightspeed vp, you can play the identical mission with the stock :v: nebulae.  The missions will display the original backgrounds if the lightspeed nebulae are not found.  Give this a try and you will be able to determine if it is the change I made or something else which is causing your performance issue.
