Re: BIG OL' PUSH: Finishing Blue Planet - Age of Aquarius VA
Definitely. Could you also try out some of the other minor ships, please? We really need as many as we can get.

We just received our lines for Admiral Bei from James L. Collymore and they're excellent. Rian and I are very pleased with the outcome.

Re: BIG OL' PUSH: Finishing Blue Planet - Age of Aquarius VA
Hi there.
I thought Blue Planet was amazing for its superb story and ship designs. (Anyone else think the Vishnu and Shiva motherships are reminiscent of Abel's Ark from Xenosaga? I guess God really does need a starship lol.)
So, I thought I'd try out the glamorous life of a mod VA for once. Here's what I have so far.

For the hell of it I'm including all of it together, including some adlibbing I did while trying to get into character. Obviously not for use in-game, but I thought it was funny.

Someone told me I should talk about what I was going for. GTVA Command, I think, is fairly straightforward; Crisp and authoritative. For Omar I decided to be creative and made two really caricatured versions of him. One sounds like the Indian guy from You Kicked My Dog, the other sounds kinda like a Crispin Freeman (the man is a god) villain impersonation. I'm not sure either of them would fit the mood of the scene appropriately, and so I won't be surprised or upset if they are tossed, but I had so much fun recording them I thought I'd submit anyway.
I'm gonna try to do more lines, albeit more straightforward than Omar. Good luck finishing the project.

Oh yeah, this is Peacecraft btw. My username is different from irc. Bad habbits die hard.

Re: BIG OL' PUSH: Finishing Blue Planet - Age of Aquarius VA
We really appreciate the lines. In the future - although we do definitely want each line as a separate file - try to bundle all the lines together in one big .rar or .zip file, okay? Just for ease of downloading. Thanks!

Hrm, Zex, these are actually pretty good, and your sound quality's decent. However, they're both a bit too...over-the-top. Could you redo Omar in a more normal voice? We really need the role filled, and if you don't worry about accents or whatnot (it's the future!), I think you'd do a great job.

Re: BIG OL' PUSH: Finishing Blue Planet - Age of Aquarius VA
I must apologize for the delay, I've been dealing with a computer issue this past week and on top of that my schedule has been unusually busy. I was hoping to have this done some time ago. Anyway, here are some more lines:

http://www.mediafire.com/?zw5nghtzlqz

Included are Alpha 4, Centaur Station, GTC Bretonia, GTC Duke, and GTCv Boreas, as well as a more passable version of Omar.

I was really happy with the way some of these turned out. Omar sounds appropriately exhausted from battle. Others are not so great; they're not as emotive as they should be, but I'm afraid my voice won't permit any especially excited performances. I belong to the unfortunate group of fans whose voices are embarrassingly high, and have to use Audacity's pitch control to make the lines passable. Too much emotion and it screws with the pitch. "Hilariously bad" is a good way to put it. So, if the capship captains sound like David Duchovny, that's why.

I hope you guys get more submissions from some better actors. I can't wait for the re-release, and I know you guys are trying to get it out the door asap. Good luck.

Re: BIG OL' PUSH: Finishing Blue Planet - Age of Aquarius VA
These are great, Zex. I think the pitch-shifting worked out well enough.

The only problem I'm seeing is that (at least in VLC) the end of a lot of the lines have been cut off. If you still have the Audacity project files, could you re-export them with just a smidgeon extra space? Listen to them after export to make sure it went off well (and let us know if the problem is only on our end.)

Rian would also like you to take a few more stabs at the 'yeah, that's for Earth' line just to see if you can put some more enthusiasm in it. It's not that you did a bad job, it's just really hard to produce that on command. Have someone follow you around with a microphone and then buy you a new car or something.

We really liked your Omar. Kinda stoned, kinda *****y, basically perfect for the situation.

Between you and Renegade Paladin we're making real progress here. Thanks to everyone else who's submitted as well. You guys are heroes.

Re: BIG OL' PUSH: Finishing Blue Planet - Age of Aquarius VA
No prob, if it needs more space I'll add some easy. But, I listened to them on my mac after they were converted into wav and they didn't cut off. So I do think it's on your end, though I've never used VLC for audio-only files. Still, I'll add some space and re-upload to see if that fixes it. Glad you liked 'em :D .

Did the good General forward my volume-manipulated recordings to you, or do I need to send them along?  Sorry for forgetting to CC you in it.

Might want to forward them to her. I am unfortunately busy with crap at the moment.

Re: BIG OL' PUSH: Finishing Blue Planet - Age of Aquarius VA
I sent the both of you a PM with a few of the smallest lines as well...
I doubt they are good enough, but I thought I give it a try.

At my first three lines I felt pretty stupid sitting alone in front of my PC taking "nonsense" into my microphone and was very glad noone was around to see/hear it.

Re: BIG OL' PUSH: Finishing Blue Planet - Age of Aquarius VA
I did the other lines too, even though it turned out to be harder than the first bunch.
I would never have thought it could be so hard to get "This is it!" to not sound goofy.

And don't even ask how many times I had to do Vice Admiral Morians first line, till I got it right. :doubt:
But I have to say his lines were quite interesting to do (even though - or perhaps becasue - they were a challange) and while my microphone isn't that good I am qutie pleased with the outcome of my first attampt at voice acting.

Oh something I forgot to mention in the PM: Since I was unsure about the a in Renjian, I recorded two versions of the lines in which that name was mentioned. One with something I think come close to what it would be like in japanese and the "pronounciation2" ones were the a is pronounced more english - I think this was ment with "WREN-jee-an".
I guess it payed off that I sometimes watch anime in the original language with german or english subtitles. I still don't understand more than a handfull of japanese words, but at least I get the pronounciacion right

Re: BIG OL' PUSH: Finishing Blue Planet - Age of Aquarius VA
I just finished another playthrough of AoA and noticed the line seen in the attached screenshot.
Now I was wondering, was this line cut for the re-release or did you simply overlook it in your first post?

In case it was simply overlooked (and I get chosen for the role) I recorded this line as well. You can find it here: members.chello.at/norbert_sattler/Norbert-UEFg_Renjian-m22-will_respond_appropriatly.wav in the usual poor to medium quality my voice and microphone allow at the moment ;)

Thanks, Norbert, good spot. I've added it in to the script and Rian will grab your line for consideration.

Thanks Norbert, got it.

In case I haven't repeated this enough times, I need copies of everything people send, because Battuta just dumps them all into an enormous cluster**** of a folder and they'll probably get lost. So either post them here or copy me on your PMs. Thanks!
