Title: Inferno Explosions
Post by: Snail on August 14, 2006, 03:26:54 pm
I think a lotta people don't like them. They look really butt-ugly, IMO :ick:. To do Inferno SCP justice, i say we petition to change the ugly explosions to vanilla explosions, or newer ones . Please leave your name after you vote. Personally, I hope after this they change them.

I hope I don't get smited for this... :shaking:

It's probably not going to happen, when i complain about aspects of Inferno SCP's attractiveness before, Woomeister replies it's not a top priority for him.

I know about 3 people have asked to change it. One of them is me. And High Max, I think...

Get me some graphics artists and we can make it a priority.

As for the R1 explosions

exp05 - Now a 2x res, remade version by DaBrain
exp06 - Totally replaced, not the same as R1 version

Both are also in the new eff format instead of ani.
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions
Post by: Snail on August 14, 2006, 03:48:25 pm
Exp06 was my main concern, but exp05 still looks a bit weird.
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions
Post by: Woomeister on August 14, 2006, 04:02:40 pm
One thing I will remind you lot of is we have a hell of a lot more files than FS2 retail, which eats away at the memory, if we want to maintain compatability with lower end cards we either have to keep filesizes down or cut a lot of stuff. So doing super high res everything is not an option.
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions
Post by: Snail on August 14, 2006, 04:08:32 pm
Not the pixely, I mean the general look of it. But I don't really care, the yuckiness of Exp06 is gone forever!! Yay!

Many members have posted here but just two(me and Snail,I think...)have "polled".
I still can't understand,Woomeister. Are you searching more Inferno team members yes or no?
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions
Post by: Woomeister on August 14, 2006, 04:24:47 pm
At the moment no. Until a list of effects that need redoing is done I can't tell if we need more effects people, and most priority is on weapon effects.

I actually rather liked them. Instead of going up like a giant firecracker you get some debris and a puff of atmosphere.

Then,if you want graphics artist, you may recruit more FREDders(just 18 missions in R2)...
You may recruit more testers, more modellers,more...
You may recruit more Inferno Team members!

We're not restarting missions until the modpack updates are done, so FREDERs would be pointless.
I don't need testers.
People making HTL versions of models are welcome, but they don't need to be part of the team to start doing that.

It's not encouraging for any potential HTL modeller.

Sorry, I actually strongly prefer the understates INF explosions to the 'we filled out ships with petrolbombs' FS explosions.  Sure, the textures are low-res, but it's nice to see a dead fighter cartwheel away, trailing debris, and break up.

Yeah but I don't want time wasters.
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions
Post by: neoterran on August 15, 2006, 01:56:51 pm
Well, okay, it seems like, if you want to do stuff you think will benefit Inferno, just do it, and present it to Woo, and if he likes it, it'll go in. That seems plausible to me.
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions
Post by: Woomeister on August 15, 2006, 02:04:16 pm
Though if you want to do a HTL model for INF SCP you should post first just in case we either already have one, or in case it was a R1 model we don't use anymore. Though there's nothing stopping people making HTL versions of R1 ships that aren't used anymore either.

Does the Tanen have a debris field this time round?
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions
Post by: Woomeister on August 15, 2006, 03:24:44 pm
If you mean in the mission when the Nemesis attacks it in R1, then no, since that doesn't happen this time.
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions

Title: Re: Inferno Explosions
Post by: Woomeister on August 15, 2006, 03:59:17 pm
I'm assuming Snails comment about a debris field was to do with the mission in R1 with the damaged Tanen. That doesn't happen in the new campaign. The Tanen is still in the mod.
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions
Post by: Snail on August 15, 2006, 04:04:49 pm
Huh?

I mean model-wise... If you open up in lod9 (whichever one it is), does it have debris?
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions

The debris of that other warship(wasn't it an Apothess?)destroyed before tha player could enter the area...

The Tanen has debris.

You were talking about an R1 mission, right? There was a Tanen with a destroyer.

It was an Asarte.

Goo, but, does Alpha 1 have a character? I bloody well hope not, cause I ****ing hated that in BWO. And I also hate the fact that pilots have names (like Derelict). If they do, I don't think I'll be enjoying Inferno this time round (full of complaints, aren't I :nervous: ).
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions
Post by: Woomeister on August 15, 2006, 05:13:30 pm
Only problem with that this time is the original files are in there as well, so if you replace them you'll have to make sure to overwrite every frame and the eff file, and then hope any future patches don't break your install.
It would be better to use a mod directory to override.
Title: Re: Inferno Explosions
Post by: Snail on August 15, 2006, 05:25:32 pm
What about the character. I hate having FS putting words in my mouth.

Me: NO! NO! YOU IDIOT I... YOU... WE'RE ON 2%!!!"

Like C.O.'s right? And the guy on the EAD Empress? That guy was so... so cool... I hope he doesn't die :(.

Eh, I'll probably hate him when his idiot destroyer shoots me with a beam after my fourth (and perfect) try. ;)

I always found it awkward when the Aquitaine didn't have Petchrach for the voice guy. Hey do you have any message .anis of famous actors   (Robert Loggia did Petchrach, I believe)?

Not that you would ;).

And please, PLEASE don't add a character to Alpha 1. It deducts from the 'FreeSpacey' feel of all campaigns.

Robert Loggia is an actor who acted in Independance Day.

I always wondered why Robert Loggia's face wasn't on the Aquitaine during Argonautica (the other guy was probably a comm. officer like Lt. Rusk).

It appeears in Mistery of the Trinity too,and its always a CM1.

I knew something about Loggia...for example, which role had in GTCa Independence Day?

I actually do not remember his face, neither his voice(the film came here translated,of course).

I like them except for that red **** at the end of animation. And they should have more fps and better resolution, but basic concept is great

I don't like the purple explosion,maybe it's the 06.
Not because of the low detail level, because it comes in different situations:
1)fighter/bomber pulverized, the explosion appears from nowhere and sometimes even keeps moving.
2)The fighter is still intact and turn into debris inly when the explosion ani is finished.
3)The right one, during the explosion the destroyed crafts turns into debris.

See the previous page of this thread,I said that those explosions come out or when the fighters is still intact,or when the fighters has been pulverized(in this case you see the expl moving on a direction).

To be honest with you... just having new missions and ships, inferno style to play with would be better than all these neat screenshots of the new EA storyline and nothing to do. I can go in and fix the explosions and other effects deficiencies later.

Title: Re: Inferno Explosions

Actually, it's true. However, sometimes it can be good as in it creates the effect of breaking apart rather than being packed with a million explosives and then detonated.

But retail explosions are still better, IMO.
