Title: INFA Status Thread
Post by: Woomeister on February 15, 2007, 03:57:44 pm
Here is a brief outline of the current status of the standalone release of INFA.

Modes:
Current the modpack can be run in either INFA, INFA2, or FSPort modes which determine starting weapons and the main game balance. FSPort mode is the general FS1 mode, removing all railguns and balance changes, INFA mode is the standard, and INFA2 mode brings flak and beams into the mix. All weapons are available in all modes, just the default loadouts are changed, but the EA ships are unique to INFA2 mode to keep the table limit down. INFA2 mode will not be available in the first release.

INFA Mode Campaign Compatability:

INFA2 Mode Campaign Compatability:

FSPort Mode Campaign Compatability:

Blaise Russels Shivans - Requires additional downloads, multi-mod setup required
FS1 - FSPort 3.0.4 mission file download required as minimum
Silent Threat - FSPort 3.0.4 mission file download required as minimum

INFA campaign is now extended to thirty missions, of which about 5 are in progress.

Woot! Punisher Cannnon!  :D

Wait a second... I don't see the Lindos anywhere on that shiplist. Please don't say it has been dropped.  :(

Anyhow, that's great news. I'm really looking forward to this...

The Lindos does not appear in INFA2. It was developed afterward. So was the Ryujin. The destroyers the EA use are the Zagreus and the Tereus instead.

Post by: Dark Hunter on March 25, 2007, 04:27:40 pm
Oh good. I like the Lindos. It would have been horrible to not have it in the mod anymore.

The final EA ship list for INFA2 hasn't been decided yet, what is currently up there are the confirmed ships.

A new trailer of the current INFA mod, mostly new INFA missions, a few oldies and scenes from Awakenings and the FS1 main campaign.

Awww... that movie file crashes WMP.

I'll just wait for someone to upload it to youtube, or something.

Works fine on my WMP11...
You might want to check your DIVX/XVID codec...

A very nice trailer indeed. :)

Is your take on the Leviathan compatible with ordinary Freespace?  Its nice to see a visually distinct Leviathan that isn't just a color change.

More or less, I had to move the turrets slightly so they weren't in the hull or floating in space but it has the same basic configuration, and it seems to work fine when used in the FS1 campaign.
Title: Re: INFA Status Thread

Would you care to post it up, or keep it reserved for the eventual INFA Release?
Title: Re: INFA Status Thread

We have discussed about modifying the armament(adding more turrets, for example)but appears that the INFA Leviathan is going to remain as it is :)

I don't know if normal Leviathan nameplates are compatible with this INFA Leviathan model.

I was about to PM Goober5000, requesting a week suspension from HLP. I want to be momentarily banned from GW and SG as well. This will improve my chances of FREDding as I used to.

But MSN is almost invincible. Admiral Edivad considers it a Tyrant... :eek2:

I somehow doubt that there will be normal maps, but I could be wrong.  If they don't have normal maps for INFASA, I doubt they will add them now though, considering how close to completion it is.  Maybe for INFSCP...

I think it's the case of diverting the discussion to this thread instead of the INF SCP one as it would be more appropriate.

The release date is summer-ish due to upcoming exams for most members of the team.

One thing, would you like to see new 3.6.10 MVPs implemented in INFA? :D

I thought it was the case of updating the news...

The main campaign is in very good shape now and missions are being progressively upgraded/FREDded. At the moment I think we're likely to release the mod in December/January but we have Real Life issues to contend with. Me, Dysko and Admiral Edivad have the University to think about while Shiv and Snail are being busy with school. Woo is busy, too...but he finds enough time to browse the forums and oversee the project's development.

I guess our spare time will be enough. :)

The project is going, don't worry - Internal is much more active than the public board.

As you probably know we have RL(University, job) and other projects to deal with(ED, NTV) but I can ensure you that INF isn't dead...a series of unfortunate events prevented the mod from being released this summer and could prevent it from being released on Christmas, but don't worry. :)

Ah, but it's out already. So it's not in that race, is it. Now INF:A-SA could be put in the race, but there's not much point. It really doesn't require nearly as much as it might in order to make INF:A stand alone from a released campaign as it might to make it from scratch.

Interesting thought. Once Inferno: Alliance is stand alone, Alliance, Pt. 2 could simply be dropped in to it as a mod.
Title: Re: INFA Status Thread

I'm not sure people are as excited by INFA as INF SCP, since it feels like it's just a prelude to the main event.

INFASA will be released with a remake of the INFA campaign released in late 2006 and by remake I mean "with radical changes in all missions".

I'm not sure people are as excited by INFA as INF SCP, since it feels like it's just a prelude to the main event.

IMHO INFA campaigns are much more than a prelude to INF SCP. They're connected to the main INF SCP campaigns but not in a way that turns them into preludes and nothing more.
Title: Re: INFA Status Thread
Post by: Mobius on November 22, 2008, 04:35:00 pm
No doubt INF SCP is the main but INFA is, IMO, good enough to have some consideration.

And nope, it's not a pure prequel. There's a gap of several decades between INFA and INF SCP and the two campaigns aren't about the same things. You have a prequel when the time gap, the technologies and the environments are similar.
Title: Re: INFA Status Thread
Post by: General Battuta on November 22, 2008, 04:44:14 pm
Let your pride go and let yourself see the light.

This is an odd thing to say.

While I agree that INF:SCP is the main event, I think that INFA is far more than the BWO demo was. I eagerly anticipate INFASA, since I believe that Mobius is a talented FREDder. It's almost certain that it'll be better than INFR1, for example.
Title: Re: INFA Status Thread
Post by: Mobius on November 22, 2008, 04:49:49 pm
Thanks for the compliment...I think there's a lot of confusion about what INFA really is. That's why there's a stickied thread about acronyms...
Title: Re: INFA Status Thread
Post by: Woomeister on November 22, 2008, 05:49:50 pm
Well I don't think the BWO demo is nearly as large as INFA is going to be
Title: Re: INFA Status Thread
Post by: Mobius on November 23, 2008, 02:48:29 am
Still, I don't get the "side stories to the main event" thing. As I said INFA is far enough from INF SCP to be much more than a prequel...
Title: Re: INFA Status Thread
Post by: General Battuta on November 23, 2008, 09:02:34 am
But the thing is that nobody cares about what happens in INFA:SA nearly as much as they care about INF SCP.

personally one of my favorite mod is SAH and it is parallel version off INFA so INFA for me is good for known the history of EA and how the Terran become a military dictatorial government

So INFA will be cool, less epic, but cool  :D
Title: Re: INFA Status Thread
Post by: ShadowGorrath on November 23, 2008, 09:33:29 am
Why do you think it will be less epic? I'm almost certain that INFASA will be more epic than SAH. Though SAH, of course, won't die out because of that.

Maybe if we are very lucky, INFA can be released around Christmas.

That's what I have been thinking for a while... :doubt:

I don't think INFASA will be released before Christmas. There's a very good chance the campaign will be entirely FREDded by December 25th but please don't forget that it will have to be tested intesively... ;)

Guys, please note that "testing" means a lot of things. Don't be surprised if the campaign will take a while to be released.

The new INFA campaign has been in the works since early 2007 so the missions have been designed in about two years. Obviously, "harmonizing" them to make the campaign enjoyable would take a while.

The others aren't good for nothing, though - their contributes are important. Snail, for example, created very good message lines for the campaign. I'm waiting for a few of them to complete a mission. Admiral Edivad is currently working on the lines for the final mission. I'll ultimate the campaign as soon as I get the lines. :D

There will not be a Christmas release. It is too good to be true and by expecting it, you are living in a dream world. Don't get your hopes up because it will make it that much worse when the cold slap of reality kicks in.
It'll already be done by Christmas; it's the testing that's going to take ages.

Done is one thing. Ready is another. A Christmas turkey can be done as soon as it comes out of the oven. That does not mean it's ready to eat. By the same token, while they may be done making the campaign by Christmas, that does not mean it's ready to release.

Does the song "I am not dead yet" from Monty Python's Spamalot describe the status of the mod so far?

I thought Alliance was decent, but Chapter 1 via FSOpen had a few balancing issues. I think you guys may be having this on the "To do list."

Perseus Advanced: 4x Prometheus plus Valkyrie afterburner capacity = total gamebreaker against fighters. I guess if you guys made a second-generation UD-8 Kayser, it would mean "only one Terran system would be left standing."

Retaking the Gate: Too far distances to prioritize stuff (as in 20 kilometers!), and beam inaccuracy (more like mispositioning of ships or approach paths). Even splitting the work between wings didn't help. (I basically 64xed time compression and rammed into the gate to quit.)

Gigas: Mispositioning again, with the two Vasudan capital ships. The Hathor was meant to be beamed to death, but it was perpendicular to the Gigas and it said to "attack Gigas," but wasn't beam-freed. I basically bailed out and "no debrief."

As in INFA?
We'll probably retool it to match the final INF release so a lot of the story will have to be dropped to match the current INF style, plus Mobius vanished and didn't leave copies of anything he was working on for INFA.

At the moment INFA only exists as a basic outline, but it'll now be a mod for the final main Inferno standalone package, and not its own standalone.

Even if he did we probably couldn't use it, as he had very different ideas than the rest of the team (and that's an understatement for the most part).

But yeah...INFA won't be ready indefinitely b/c we're not working on it right now.

e:  Not sure what you guys mean by debug build; it tries to break into the debugger on its own then crashes.
When we say "run through a debug build", we do imply "use the debug build to find the bugs, then go fix em".
