I don't think the Freespace engine's the best one to have a Gundam mod anyway. You wouldn't be able to get the motion of the mecha right.

Maybe LUA can handle that, just recruit somebody like Nuke or Wanderer to write the scripts.

Why would that be?  I'm a 40k fan and I think Freespace is just fine without any Astartes, Orks, Custodes, Eldar, Tau, Necrons, Sisters of Battle, Tyranids, Guardsmen, or Chaos-worshipers.  If I missed anything, I'm sorry.  Freespace manages to be grimdark by itself, and it doesn't need any help from 40K.

More to the point, I think the FSO engine might just die when rendering Imperial ships, not to mention the scale of space hulks.
