Oh wait, that's TrashMan's Orion. Now I get why it looked weird...
 So true.
[22:29] <sigtau> Hello, #hard-light?  I'm trying to tell a girl she looks really good for someone who doesn't exercise.  How do I word that non-offensively?

Aside from it being TrashMan's Orion, what's the problem with that Orion?  I don't really have an issue with it, nor do I see why we should bash it--again, barring that it was made by TrashMan.  If that's the only reason, I have to ask what the **** you guys' problem is. :P

Uh I didn't say it was a problem. I'm just used to seeing Bobbaou's Orion. That's why TrashMan's looked weird to me at a glance. It's a different model entirely. It's like walking into your living room and finding all the furniture rearranged.

I wasn't specifically targeting you, Snail (nor did I think you were the one doing the bashing).  I was (more or less) bothered about how the community bashes it subtly, simply because Trashman made it.

It's not because he made it.  :p

Re: A celebration of FreeSpace
I don't find TrashMan's Orion that different from Bobbaou's to be honest. Both have random extrusions all over, not that that's a bad thing, really, but the only major differences are the mapping, and how those extrusions are arranged :P

I do like TrashMan's Orion turrets better though, specifically the presence of beam turrets so that BGreens aren't firing out of a tiny knob (or worse, a triple-barrelled multipart  :shaking:)

3 x BGreens would be pretty useful, though.

Re: A celebration of FreeSpace
I did always feel that the main weapons coming out of the huge multipart turrets would be cooler.

Most likely.  More surface area leads to more efficient heat transfer.

Not going to be much heat transfer going on in space, my friend. Just radiation.

Radiation is heat transfer.  And it seems that you missed the pun. :p

Re: A celebration of FreeSpace
I got the pun, and while it's technically heat transfer it's not a great turn of phrase since it's not a mechanical transfer at all.

It's energy transfer, isn't it?

P = εσAT4.

It's partially related to mechanical transfer, the P says it all.

Wrong. It's purely radiative. There is no atmosphere in space to absorb heat mechanically.

Goober's technically correct in that it's called 'heat transfer' even though it's neither conduction or convection and thus does not meet the definition's requirement, i.e. 'by motion of fluids'. It's a bad bit of language.

Ah, the Ferret. Still one of my all-time favorite starfighter designs.

(And before you say "it looks like a Viper", EVERYTHING with a skinny fuselage and stubby wings looks like a Viper. :p)
