Credits for this: Relic for models and base textures, the HW2.0 mod team for normal maps, MattheGeek for extracting all of this for the team ,pecenipicek for bringing all of this together into something watchable and the rest of the team for not sending me to hell for my "quirks" over the last 2 years...
-
They look pretty good! congrats :D
-
Finally! Is it on the website, too?
Edit: Website 'screenshots' section STILL doesn't work.
-
I think the normals might be a bit overdone, but the Destroyer is certainly impressive.
-
Indeed, shiny...
Nice interceptor. Though I will say from looking at in-game shots it needs better exhaust plume effects. That long exhaust streamer would work wonders for it...
-
That interceptor is just awesome, great work!!!
-
 lookin good.
-
Has any progress been made on the 10th anniversary Interceptor?
-
God yes, will that be used? :D
-
OMG... This is a brilliant job!
-
@Thaeris : Don't worry, we're already using proper engine trails for our strike crafts, they just don't appear here because the inty isn't moving ;)
And for the 10th anniversary interceptor, well we're planning to only use retail HW ships, so we (as far as I know) didn't work on it yet. But anyone interested in modeling/texturing/pofing it is warmly encouraged to do so :D
-
:eek2:
me want more. give me more. <taken to the hospital in a strait jacket>

Now that we have in-game screens, I have a good reason to put it up ;7
-
You guys are only seeing the tip of the iceberg here. . . ;7
-
Surprisingly it's the last screenshot that's really gotten me - especially that... whatever that thing is... on the bottom left, and not the ships.
Somehow I kind-of feel that, to really capture the Homeworld universe, there needs to be a lot of play on the backgrounds. Probably just me though, but from what little I played out of HW2 (never played the first), all the cutscenes and some of those places where you have those mysterious giant installations as part of the background...
The feeling of mystery in a really, really deep and dark sea of space. That gaping white hole... just what IS behind it? It looks like a place you can go to, yet you know you can never really "go there".
That... is Homeworld.
At least, to me anyway XD

sooo... whats the rest of the iceberg?
:p
@asyikarea51, heh. thats why we're trying to get the atmosphere right.
-
We can't tell them yet. . .
The musics great though, that much I can say.

music will be the same tracks featured in HW2 or something like that entirely made by your composers?
-
For now, entirely new musics. I'm still trying and convincing them to use HW2 tracks too though :p
-
there's the whole copyright thing, y'know? XD
-
Doesn't Wing Commander Saga use a mix of fanmade and original scores?
-
i'd really want to avoid anything from retail hw2.
and we have two music artists doing our stuff.
-
Saga can use original tracks because origin is bust.
-
Wait...
Are you saying the ships are only going to be HW1 or that you're just not going to use retail HW2 music?
-
Music, didn't the screenshot answer the ship question :)
-
there's the whole copyright thing, y'know? XD
that so? I though you could use the content as long as you didn't get any profit out of it..
never mind, looking forward to it.

profit just makes the law suit worth money if you want to you can sue someone in most countries just for the principle of using your intellectual property without permission so long as you can prove you had the original idea
-
Well then its clearly wrong for these guys to be using models and skins straight from Homeworld 2.
-
and if noone noticed anywhere.... these are bloody placeholders.
why do you think that we want to remake everything...
-
well, if you actually state that the ships and whatever are owned by their respective owners, that you do not gain any profit from it, that it's illegal to sell and if you do a good job you will not get sued.
-
Wow I had to see it to believe it... Didn't knew that hw2 mod was under construction. The screenshots looking fantastic...I hope you will continue the story of hw2. Don't wanna fight Vaygr again. A new enemy that would be fantastic.
Still which way you ever may go I wish you good luck on it. I've allready read the news that you had hard times with this project in the past. Well carry on as good as you can guys. :) The end result will it be worth it the screens are the best proof for that.
It's interesting Homeworld is still strong in the hearts of the fans. A homeworld sins of a solar empire & now your mod. Rumors intend that relic is working on Homeworld 3 since the rights are back to Relic and THQ. This are good times my friends.. May Hiigara rise once again.
-
Seriously, if you ever were right about all those copyright stuff, what's the point of making a mod at all ? All the concept, names and such are as much the property of Relic than any music or ship meshes. So either we give up the whole mod, or we accept to use HW2 materials, because there is really no point in remaking everything from scratch.
-
Well, adding a personal touch to material is something to consider when remaking everything from scratch. And up to now, it's going slowly, but the assets are accumulating. It's more fun to create work based on another rather than just copy-paste the stuff, if you ask me. As for music, when we have talent like we do on the team, I don't know why we should use original music. Especially when that particular area of creative work is very volatile when it comes to copyright infringement. I don't want the RIAA or any other coming down on us in flames because we used music we didn't have permission to use.
Oh and last thing, judging by where this thread is headed too, these matters should be discussed in the private forum.
-
First of all, last time I checked the idea of this mod was to bring Homeworld(a strategy game) universe into the Freespace (a space sim) engine.
Second of all, the big idea of making a mod is not to make the same thing, but to make it better.
And it is only now I see what you didn't understand. Please note that I said that "the ships and whatever are owned by their respective owners". Using this phrase actually means that if you, MatthTheGeek, or anybody else, adds a new ship in the game, its yours. You own it because its your creation. But the designs you take from lets say Homeworld its the ownership of Relic.
Hope I got you covered.
Lots of luck guys.
-
Of course we're trying to make it better! I hope we didn't give the impression of the contrary
I don't think we discarded the idea of adding new ships. However, I doubt it'll be done in the first release. Maybe in future ones, who knows. We have a couple of designs on paper. They are not really HW-styled designs (that's a long story), but we have ideas.
-
Also to be noted that the mission design also belongs to you guys :)
And I was sure you will make things better than they are in HW. I'm pretty sad I can't do anything except voice acting and spell checking. I would have gladly joined
-
@ktistai228 : Of course I agree with you. Making a mod is making things drawing inspiration from the original game, and making them better. What I mean is that we shouldn't veto ourselves to use HW2 materials and improve them just because of copyright reasons, given that all concepts, names, whatever, are as much copyrighted than the rest, and that we'll have nothing left to do a mod if we don't get rid of that annoyance.
And I still think we should talk one day about the music thing, even if I understand your standpoint ;)
-
You guys do know that there are 100 of concept arts created by relic showing stations , ships and stuff from other races (dust wars) which were never used in the 2 homeworld games. Catalcysm also had a bunch of good concepts. Should you ever add any new ships then you should take the sources from there because they are the closed things to the homeworld universe since they were created by relic staff in the past.
How ever fan based stuff is also fantastic. Best example was Enterprise E his famous Taiidani ship shown on the right:

Well like you said MatthTheGeek: One step at a time. :) Looking forward to fly someday in a Hiigaran Wing.
-
Wait...a high-poly Taiidan Heavy Cruiser? :eek2:
Sexy.
-
I know about Enterprise-E stuff. Too bad he vanished and let us without authorization to use his stuff, even (and mainly) for HW2 engine mods. That was a long time ago...
-
IIRC, Enterprise-E had some nasty run-ins with arrogant HW2 mod leaders and decided to take his stuff and refuse anyone else to use them for game mods...
-
Sounds like UT modders who won't make their stuff public. :P
-
Copyright sucks...
-
Copyright sucks...
Relevance?
-
I would have been using Enterprise-E's ships in HW2 for several years weren't it for stupid copyright issues and me having enough morale to respect it :/
-
Nice screenshots - the bump mapping is a little over done and "bubbly". Looks cool though.
-
More screenshots will be coming soon, unfortunately, still with retail HW2 assets, but until we get some stuff actually built, textured, etc, it'll be as it is :)
