Title: RELEASE: Boomerang
Post by: Admiral Nelson on December 14, 2008, 12:17:40 pm
A powerful new Shivan technology leads to trouble for the GTVA in this fully voice acted three mission campaign. Boomerang has now been made fully compatible with the new 3.6.10 MediaVPs.  This is a cosmetic release covering spelling, graphics and the completion of voice acting.

Special thanks to Mauri Majanoja ("Darkblade") for completing the voice acting.

I only see retail stars, even on zoom.
And what is that cluster**** in the radar?

Lets not have another starfield conversation here, please.

The screenshot is using wanderer's radar icons.

Oh, I see the starfield fine in game, just not in that screenshot, leading me to believe that it may have been neglected in the mission.
that's what I'm saying.

This was my mistake, actually.  Resolved.

The MediaVP starfiled does not show up because the mediavp starfield is not loading.

;;FSO 3.6.0;; $Skybox Model: starfield01.pof

Instead of "Starfield.pof".

Yes, if you redownload that has been resolved.

Bit odd that the file didn't come with a mod.ini.

It was a tad bemusing to have to actually do it manually.

It does not need a mod.ini.  Just place it in your main FS2 folder.

I specifically try to train new people to never put anything to \freespace2\. It really cuts down the amount of tech support requests concerning conflicting mods. Even though this campaign apparently contains no tables or other interfering files, I'd still rather if people stuck it to a mod folder and used the Launcher the way it's meant to be used.

You misunderstand me. I just meant that having to add the mediavps flag manually (via the launcher) was rather surprising. Initially, I figured it came with a mod.ini and so played it vanilla before I figured it out.

Hi, On the last mission, half of my hecate model is missing...well over half, just the first large section is there. There rest is "there" (ie i can easily get stuck in collisions with things i can't see) but is invisible. After being repaired it doesnt do anything and gets destroyed easily. However it still says i completed the mission. I'm using 3.6.10 and a nightly build from the 14th of december. I guess its not that big a deal since its the last mission, but I figured I might as well find out whats wrong. Thanks

Does this just happen in the one mod, or in all of them (check the tech room to make sure).  If it only appears in the one mod, redownload and replace the mod file.  If it happens in all of them, you have corrupt mediaVPs.
If so, manually (meaning NOT using Turey's Installer) redownload the 3.6.10 VPs.

I've updated Boomerang to work with MediaVPs 4.5.x.  Why not try one of the oldest campaigns with the latest tech FSO and FSU have to offer? :)

I wanted to play this gem once again after all these years.  :)

It has aged well, I have to admit, though the time has probably come to switch to proper skyboxes instead of using the good old nebula bitmaps (which still are a significant milestone in the history of FreeSpace modding). On a slightly unrelated note, Darkblade's voice acting was great.
