Title: Modern warfare 2 delivery method.
Post by: Colonol Dekker on November 09, 2009, 01:29:28 pm
Yeah I know there's a topic for this game but here in the yoo kay it's out at midnight tonight. . . . And i'm deciding whether or not to be a twat and turn up in full uniform with my personal rifle and queue like a moron or buy it sensibly like an adult later.

This isn't to vote for how i'm going to buy it but rather for you guys to state your intentions or purchase methods.

Traded in a bunch of old equipment and games no longer used so I got it for "free."

Probably go down to the midnight launch to see how it's operating.

I know it's not a vote, but it would be awesome if you lined up in full uniform.

Are you, er, allowed to carry your rifle about?

I've got a blank firing (rendered safe) Robar SL12. But that's another topic altogether.

What about "No"? :P
I hate modern-like war games. :D

Still, in all seriousness, add an option like "Borrow it from a friend and play until bored." Because that's what I'm going to do. What's the point in buying a game if you'll only play it for a day and then never touch it again? (Don't bring up multiplayer, as I hate online play.)
That's actually what I did with Halo: ODST. I borrowed the game from a friend of mine, beat the campaign in five hours, played firefight for 3 hours until I hated it, and I'm going to give it back to him tomorrow.

Frankly, it looks like it's going too action-y.

Once I saw that snowmobile chase I was "Wtf? Am I looking at hte right trainler? Since when did this turn into True Lies"? I was hoping for a good, realistic game. I was hoping for a somethin that would bring hte good ol days of Delta Force back - to really feel like a Spec Forces operative. But noooo.. Instead I get to be ANOTHER generic Rambo!

I kinda agree. I really liked the first one because it felt pretty realistic most of the way through (within limits.) But that snowmobile chase was a bit too, er, gangster.

Well, in most senses, it is gangster.

But not in the case of the HLP.

Gangster for the HLP involves Dilmah running someone down on kangaroo-back.  :P

I'd be careful with that made-safe, you know how totally paranoid the Police are, and the last thing you need is to make the front page of the Daily Mail with 'See!! We were Right!' as a headline ;)

Wouldn't worry.
That's a bit of a stretch for me. At most i'd wear my Beret and mirrored sunglasses.

In that case, get some mates together and start whistling 'Bridge over the River Kwai' as you queue ;)

Ahahaha, Dekker in his RE beret and sunglasses.

Ahh that makes me smile. :D

I actually just realised I get paid one of my last weekly temp wages tonight at midnight. I'm tempted to go and buy it tonight. . . . .

I won't play it though. Assuming my visa clears by the time I beat my way to the front of the queue.(think Homer Simpson as Mark Hamills bodyguard)

My worst case scenario should my inner nerd sway me, is waiting in a super queue for a bit only to have them run out.

Is there a "No, Steam can bite my ass" option?

Hey, Steam rocks. Didn't everyone get over this in, like, 2004?

Impulse>Steam.  You don't need Impulse running in order to play your legally-obtained games.

I'm waiting to hear from you just how good it is...and by "good" I mean proper atmosphere. Proper being realistic.
If every level is like that snowmobile thing, then it's crap IMHO.

They respect us so much they can't be bothered to put proper netcode into their multiplayer action title?

Why should I tell you?

Because I know who you are and where you live!

HELL YEAH! :D
At least DICE supports its 'old' games, as well as PC gamers.

BF1942 still has ****ty netcode. Nice support, DICE.

Where'd the mod support and dedicated servers go?  Yeah, I don't think I'm going to buy this one.

To be fair, its nearly 9 years old, BF2 (4years old) got an update about a month ago that improved its hit detection.

That supports my position, though. It's nine years old, and its netcode is still, well, not so hot. That isn't good support (and let's not discuss how it performed upon release).

I think it's because nobody plays 1942, since both of it's sequels (battlefield 2 and battlefield 1943) seem to be far, far more popular.
