I know it seems pretty dead around here, but there's plenty of activity going on behind the scenes and on our discord channel. I created this gameplay video while doing some stress testing, enjoy!

Just got back to HLP a few days ago and had no idea about this mod, but this vid looks amazing. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Yeah, but back in 2002, all the Freespace mods were barely formed and I had no idea how to get any of them working, assuming that they were even completed back then. Also, we didn't have Knossos to make downloading them and keeping track of them much easier. :P :warp:

wait wtf is going on there in 0:25 - 0:29, are those ray traced reflections? what god's work have you been doing here? Is this related to some hidden work by The_E or other in-house genius?

Watched this the other day - bravo!
I will note that my only concern is FS' rather poor control interface, but then perhaps my experience has just not been as good as someone else's. It would be a blast to just plug in a stick and go to town with this, if you will.
...Here's a quick question: does FSO currently allow free-look with a hat switch, etc? I found that during the course of the video, I constantly wanted to look around! :D

I don't think there's complete free look yet, just "look left/right/back/up" and "target lock" where your view is fixed on your target. Or TrackIR if you have the right setup.

Actually we do indeed have full freelook :) The cockpits are fully modeled too so even in calm conditions it’s very fun to look around.
So yes you can look at cardinal directions with the hat, and then use the mouse or joystick to do full freelook.

Freelook is hold down keypad ins isn't it? :nervous:

There's a button you can press and hold that makes your camera rotate with the use of your standard ship controls. I think it's numpad 0 by default.

Yes, power management is the same as retail and I don't think we're planning to change it.
Yes, it'll have standard FRED, FotG is using standard FSO executables.

Whaaaat?! I could swear you guys were changing Engine code to achieve some of the changes FotG has!

There has been quite a few changes to the engine for FotG's benefit and use, but all of those changes are submitted to the SCP master code branch, so that way we can use standard builds and every other modder can use the features too :)

Yeah that would be nice. The forum has been rather silent since Beta start roughly 1 1/2 years ago.

Good to hear FotG is using regular builds, the constant creation of ever new branches was getting confusing.
