Title: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Mobius on May 07, 2008, 01:54:46 pm
Hello everyone.

Although the FSCRP is young its number of team members is very high. The problem is that many team members aren't that active and the progress of many FSCRP WIPs is being negatively affected(Warzone SCP and S:AH SCP should've been released a while ago).

The FSCRP is now a more official community project. We have a private forum and we'll soon have a badge. With this thread we'd like to form a new team of active people with different tasks so that the team can work simultaneously on multiple campaigns(modellers/texturers work on campaign X's modpack while testers work on campaign Y and FREDders work on campaign Z). Right now the official team members are me, Admiral Nelson, MP-Ryan and lostllama. We obviously are in need of more FREDders, several modellers/texturers and testers.

If you're interested, let us know by posting here or sending a PM :)

EDIT: There's another thing I've previously talked about. Basically we'd like to see experienced modellers/texturers and campaign designers, like IceFire, to boost the efficience of the team.

29/01/2009 Update

Me and Admiral Nelson have decided to increase the standards of recruitment. For now on, people willing to help the FSCRP out with testing, bugfixing and texturing need to show us exhaustive examples of previous work, plus noticeable interest and dedication. In other words, if you like to get the badge and internal access, you need to deserve it. ;)

08/02/2009 Update

Here's another update. With enough "pure" testers in the team, the FSCRP's recruitment standards are slightly different now. Testers willing to join should also have the FRED skills to work solo on campaigns, if the situation requires.

20/02/2009 Update

The FSCRP is now looking for an artist able to design a nice badge for the project! :) The basic concept is this:

FS
CRP

...with a proper background.  :pimp:

Hai itiscanbehelptiemnowplees? kthxbai.

I'd like to help, I'm learning to model, and I can FRED pretty well.

Can you create cutscenes with FRED?
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...

Nope. I can learn.

I am very much interested...

1. Tester
2. Grammar Checking
3. Voice Acting (currently working on Earth Brakiri)

I will be moving to Malaysia for 3 months in June and will have a lot of free time during the week.

I think I'm too old to VA.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Mobius on May 07, 2008, 03:33:52 pm
I don't know if we need grammar checkers, MP-Ryan and Nelson are enough for that task. Generally campaigns don't need grammar checking.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: colecampbell666 on May 07, 2008, 03:37:26 pm
Deep Blood does. Mobius the Italian does.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Mobius on May 07, 2008, 03:41:33 pm
Nelson and MP-Ryan can grammar check and fortunately none of my campaigns needs an SCP upgrade.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: colecampbell666 on May 07, 2008, 03:42:32 pm
So is there any tutorial for cutscenes?
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Mobius on May 07, 2008, 03:44:25 pm
No offense, but the team needs people who already know how to do certain things...not people who're willing to learn...
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: colecampbell666 on May 07, 2008, 03:47:16 pm
:( What about the fact that I can FRED?
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Mobius on May 07, 2008, 03:50:48 pm
"I can FRED" is generic. Snail claims to be a FREDder but all of his INFA missions are improved by me(they're so poor :ick:). Do you know how to use advanced SEXPs, for example?
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: colecampbell666 on May 07, 2008, 04:29:45 pm
Examples?

I am good with variables, for example. What else?
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Admiral Nelson on May 07, 2008, 04:37:12 pm
Not so harsh, Mobius.

What we really need is someone who can do any of
1) Be assigned campaigns/missions to playtest and reliably report back mission bugs etc
2) Fix mission bugs, apply backgrounds, tweaks (add ships to escort list, fix messages, etc)
3) FRED whole missions, viz. the last three missions of Titan Rebellion.

I have had a great deal of trouble just getting proper feedback on campaigns.  That alone is a valuable contribution.

Cole, have you some missions you have FREDed to post up?
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: colecampbell666 on May 07, 2008, 04:48:30 pm
Not really, most got lost in an HDD crash a month ago. I can make one, though. Should take about a week to make a nice one.

And I can probably do 1, 2 and 3.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Admiral Nelson on May 07, 2008, 05:03:19 pm
Okay good.  The other thing you can do besides a sample mission is to download the latest version of Pandora's Box or SAH at your discretion and post up feedback in the appropriate thread.  These campaigns are very nearly done.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: colecampbell666 on May 07, 2008, 05:05:09 pm
AOK. about the mission, it may take a week or two, as I have homework, and I am going on a week long trip to Montreal sans ordinateur.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Admiral Nelson on May 07, 2008, 05:07:12 pm
That's fine.  Feedback works too, if you can do that sooner.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: MP-Ryan on May 07, 2008, 08:02:18 pm
Hold hold...

Keep in mind I started doing testing, grammar/spellcheck, and re-writes and ended up doing a fair bit of FRED tweaking too.  People who are familiar with FRED can certainly do things like add nameplates (look at the Warzone comments posted by Mustang; if someone can do that instead of me that'd be great), create nameplates, tweak event timing, and other basic FREDing tasks that are time-consuming but don't require an in-depth knowledge of SEXPs and FRED.

In short, I'm not turning down help where its offered.

One other thing:  If someone says they're going to be doing something but you get to it first, by all means do the task and post the results.  If people aren't doing literally everything but have some of the task load taken on by others, then things will move faster.

We can REALLY use testers.  The more, the better.  And the more detailed their feedback, the better.

I can do testing and some minor FRED tweaks.
Also some editing although it sounds like we have that covered.

Are there any texturers/modellers willing to help the FSCRP? Their help would be much appreciated :)

Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...

Not only...certain campaigns have a modpack whose models need expert hands to work properly ;)

Same dimensions as my INFA one...possibly similar to SCP/FSU ones(they're all community projects). :)

Maybe something like:

          FS
         CRP

With a SCP-ish background...

Good idea. I'll use the SCP logo (the green FS2 one).

That would be FreeSpace Restoration Project. It's already restored.

And it wouldn't look to good resized, remember it has to be 25*25.

The ones I made were sort of crap and were done in paint.

How is this one? It was originally meant to be inverted color (go into paint and press Ctrl+I) but this one looks ok too IMO.

Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Mobius on May 11, 2008, 04:07:49 am
I find it ok,, but it's a bit dark. The letters should be white and there should be something else in the background(not only the GTVA logo). ;)
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Snail on May 11, 2008, 07:33:20 am
What should be in the background? It's very small so it's rather hard to see anything in the background unless it's really obvious (like planets or beams).

Negative colors looks better I think.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Mobius on May 11, 2008, 09:16:30 am
I'm for white colors because the FSCRP isn't a mod about something "dark" and/or "damn serious".

Try with stars/galaxy in the background.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Admiral Nelson on May 11, 2008, 10:40:29 am
Another idea might be to just try CRP alone, five letters must be tough to fit into such a tiny space.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: colecampbell666 on May 11, 2008, 10:41:02 am
That's what I did. I like CRP.

So you like the negative colors, then?
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: colecampbell666 on May 11, 2008, 10:53:22 am
I think that a blackish logo fits with the forum more. Snail, the bronze doesn't really fit with yours, maybe gold or silver.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Mobius on May 11, 2008, 10:56:02 am

          FS
         CRP

Speaking of the letters, they shouldn't give problems if they're disposed that way...

I'd like to see light colors...as I said, the FSCRP isn't the kind of project mentioned before. No INFA/MG/WCS like color settings, I think.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: colecampbell666 on May 11, 2008, 11:00:45 am
I think something like the SCP or FSPort logos would fit.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: Mobius on May 11, 2008, 11:04:05 am
The FS Port logo is pretty light, I'd like something similar to it.

What about stars or a galaxy in the background? The GTVA logo doesn't tell a lot about the FSCRP's task(S:AH ayone?).

I believe this is the correct link - anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong:

Also, somebody please give him access to the private board (that's where we post our testing comments and fixes).

Err...we want our modified version to be checked, not the original one...therefore, that's not the version Rhymes With PSYCHO will be supposed to test.

This thread is to find volunteers so testing-related discussions are for internal. ;)

Would it be possible for the FSCRP to get their own badge, separate from the FSU one?  It's really confusing from the outside, and I didn't figure out what both projects had the same badge until I actually joined one of them.

Well after reading your post again, I'll try for the hell of it

So far I've

- Voiced Viper in EACW

- FRED-ed a remake of High Noon (Check Fsmods and the missions and campaigns board, currently in testing)

- Currently assisting Lucika with 'Syrk: Unification Wars' (http://game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?s=850a8b105967eeb574271b480d784cc0&t=6981)

It's not exactly exhaustive compared to other people here, but it's what I have and I'm not bothered whatever the outcome is of this

I'm happy to do whatever you see fit, including GTFO this thread if need be

I might as well throw it out there: I can do some voice acting, but it shouldn't be anything too big. Note: I'm from Denmark so it's gonna be a kind of flat, inflectionally-impaired semi-American accent you're gonna encounter here. Most fitting for Vasudans actually. No microphone noise of any kind. Well, now the offer's on the table if you need my help.

tested in Alcibiades Gamble (campaign in the making)

You could, uh still be doing that you know. In fact, now that we've scrapped the no mods clause and added certain other aspects it would be good if you would come back and playtest it some more. just a thought.

anyway, to justify hijacking the thread for a second there, i would be interested in playtesting some of the new old campaigns. i

EDIT oops, i wasn't reading. as i have no examples of anything released i guess i'm not eligible. damn

I'd like to volunteer for beta testing.  I'm currently doing beta test work on Dilmah G's High Noon remake.  I don't have much to show beyond that with FS2 in particular, but I've done beta testing for other games and mods of other games in the past, and have never had anyone come off unhappy with my work.

I also have a distinctive bass voice, but no audio recording gear.  If that changes, I'll hang out my shingle in the Voice Acting subforum.
Title: Re: A renewed FSCRP team...
Post by: FoxtrotTango on February 03, 2009, 01:19:37 pm
I've offered to throw my hat into the beta-testing ring. I'm competent in running the debug build and showing off the debug spew so that the problem can be solved. I do what I can when my services are needed, playing until I crash or until I notice a definite error in the game's makeup that needs to be rectified. I may not be above and beyond, but I've picked up how to report bugs on the forum rather quickly, so I at least know how to do that much.

I'm also considerably interested in voiceacting. I've not had much experience in this particular field, but I've done some stage acting before, so I know generally what credentials you're looking for. A native Kentuckian, my voice probably shows it, and my tone is a clear deep bass. My voice travels rather easily, so I believe that it's acoustically sound. If I had my say in anything, I'd love to voiceact for the MCv Custodian in the Homesick campaign, but anything will do. I'm particularly partial to mission briefing/debriefing, if it's any consolation.

One more thing, I'm a seasoned writer. I've been penning stories in my spare time since my sophomore year of high school, and as such, I have great skill with writing. I've been known to spend entire nights focusing on building a character's biographical details from the ground up, and my natural loathing towards plotholes and the unexplained aspects of stories causes me to really plan ahead before I set facts in stone. I'm not sure how these skills will apply to campaign restoration (unless there's another total campaign recreation ala ST:R), but I figure that it's better to say it now, rather than later.

(A note on my desire to voiceact the Custodian: I want to try it out because he sounds really down-to-earth, and as I was reading it aloud, I found myself dipping into a sort of down-home attitude. It just felt really natural and I think it would be good to start off with.)

This doesn't look very professional, but since you guys need a badge, here's my take on it. :nervous:

It's good! I think FSCRP is a little too long to fit into the standard size of badge though. Is there any way to alter that?

And the "CRP" bit in our name just looks a little too close to another word to me :/

No way to alter badge size.  Well, technically, the forum will accept any size badge, but no one is ever going to allow a larger size (standard is 25x25).

The style is fine...is it possible to center the words, anyway? No offense, but they seem a bit misplaced at the moment(they were probably intended to). ;)

They were meant to be placed off-centre so that the colour-inverted Perseus was somewhat visible.

No matter, here's a centralised version.

EDIT: Ah crap, I also centralised the Perseus! A new version with the Perseus to the side has been attached for great vengeance!

A Perseus?

*squints*

Maybe put the GTVA logo in, as the background instead of a Perseus? I can live with the FSU one for now though.

The FreeSpace Upgrade Project has FSU on the badge, so I think the FreeSpace Campaign Restoration Project should have FSCR on the badge. :nervous:

But the Source Code Project has SCP
And Terran-Vasudan War Project has TVWP
And The Babylon Project has TBP
:nervous:

Rename it to the Campaign Project Restoration and have the logo a red cross with the initials over top!

Did somebody change the FSCRP logo? I see a smiley there now. :wtf:

Or rename it to Campaign to Renovate All Projects and have the logo brown.

EDIT: The smiley face is awesome.

Your Terran-Vasudan War Project has TVWP on it, though, instead of just TVW. :drevil:

Liking that new badge AE  Is that a planet in shadow as part of the background?

And lol at the current one.

Uhh...

Mobius replied with , so I changed it to the super-huge GTVA logo created by Aardwolf (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,57054.msg1151659.html#msg1151659). That is the only GTVA logo that is readily available to me on my Mac, although in hindsight it may be better than using the standard GTVA one.

Sorry, I just need glasses... For some reason I thought I could see the logo behind the letters FS and that the orange thing was something else. :nervous:

Not if they want people smirking whenever they read a post with that face on its margin.  :P

I would like to participate as a tester. I have technical knowledge, and I describe circumstances for errors well. Unfortunately, I do not have any experience with FRED, but if pointed to a how-to or walkthrough I can teach myself.

I have some interest in voice-acting, but I have yet to find my microphone or get another one. My voice is Midwestern American (the state of Missouri), a powerful tenor that if I hit the right pitch can reverberate in a room and cut through noise somewhat.

Testing progress has been slow recently...

...so I'd like to say that the FSCRP is still looking for team members. :)

Is that what you need?  Play testers?  I'll test for you if you need it.

You need to also have the time to do a proper analysis after each mission (have notepad open and switch between the two)

Amen, and the more comprehensive your notes are, the better.  Note that it doesn't HAVE to be notepad, just something to jot things down in to attach it or post it on internal.

Well I have time.  I work at home and will be until I have to go back to college in September.  I have lots of time.

Learning how to write a comprehensive report is simple. The FSCRP team did not know it when we got started.

dANGER boy, have you ever tested a campaign? I suggest reading this article (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Upgrading_campaigns). :)

Well this place seems deserted, but I'll post my resume anyway.

1.  FREDer
2.  Tester
3.  Storyline/Grammarcheck/Spellcheck

Previous work:  Rogue Intentions Episode I (http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.259), dozens of recent personal projects which will never likely be completed.
