Title: An update on this... (imgs)
Post by: Kamikaze on September 21, 2002, 02:00:57 am
A million years ago I posted a thread on Home Planet, a new space sim game being developed by some company (maybe russian)

I just visited their site and noticed all the pretty screenies so I came to show you :D

We thought a bit and have decided to update the site of our game - just for you guys to know - what we're up to these days.

First of all (the most interesting news, I guess), we've just completed the demo of HomePlanet for publishers - it looks very cool and optimistic, I might say. If you are a publisher and are interested in our game, please, feel free to contact Slava Plotnikov of Russobit-M for the additional information.

For you, our friendly gamers, we've prepared a bunch of good stuff - some screens in the gallery section and pictures of the ships from the game in the ships section.

Well, that's it for now. C u and take care!

They're somewhat into production... it'll probably still  be some time before release though. I estimate spring to mid-summer next year.

Hmm, it's very nice, but some of those ships look weird, like cartoonish... :wtf:

Characteristics of the game:

More then 20 missions, connected with a non-linear story;
More then 60 different types of spaceships, 6 of them may be controlled by the player himself;
Newton physical model of the flight;
The game has a third party force - the Confederation, which will react on the player's actions - they will fight with you or against you or even stay neutral;
The action of the game takes place in open space and on orbits of different planets;
Huge and stunning space battles - there can be more then 10 ships fighting with each other at a time;
The player will choose how to equip his ship;
The mission editor, which will come together with the game lets the gamer to add new tasks, types of weapons and ships to the original game.

I hope this game turns out to be good......maybe it could be a candidate for addition to HLP?

Not that many flyable ships or mission, though... the stats for ships fighting in a mission seems really low.  Hmm.....

You know "I've Found Her"? It's Babylon 5 freeware game, it uses same engine as Home Planet. Both games shares at least one developer...

I find it kinda disappointing that only 6 craft can be piloted by the player... :doubt:

It uses their own engine. But IFH borrowed the engine because at least one of the devs are working on both games.

bof. in FS1 I flew only the valkyrie ( save when I was forced to fly a bomber ) and the myrmidon then erynies in FS2. don't care how many ships I fly, I can't see what I fly anyway, what I want is plenty of of ships to fight, and 60 sounds about right :nod:

Ah...makes sense.  I thought IFH was 'announced' before Homeplanet, though.  Wonder if this Russian (I think) company would revive the Into The Fire game, if given the chance and licence (well, not exactly given).

the textures make the ships look kind of cartoony me thinks.

Considering how little difference there is between ships after a certain point (Ares and Medusa? Not really. Herc, Myrm, and Percy? Could just as easily make all that two ships. Zeus? Once again, please), six should be plenty. Take the standard range of properties- speed, maneuverability, weapon compatibility, power, and toughness. Now divide by six- that's a decent difference. Give one or two odd properties, like high speed but no maneuverability, and you're set.

Yeah, the texes look vaguely cel-shaded. The interface looks much like every space sim's I've ever seen, and pretty much like most flight sims, too.

Granted, it's not the most stunning or original looking game, but if it's moddable, and the engine looks good enough, I'll give it a shot.  Provided, of course, the demo's fun and the reviews are generally positive.

Actually, I thought all of that was pretty good. Space games always seem to look better cel-shaded.

It actually looks a lot like the original FS, engine-wise. Nice hi-res planets, I see (That would make a kickass Vasuda Prime.)

FS1, you got the Apollo, Valk, Herc, Ulysses, Athena, Medusa, and Ursa. That makes 7, and most of us never flew the Athena because of its crappy weapons.

We'll have to look into it.

Hey! I flew the Athena! Never flew the Ulysses, though. Crappy armor....

Nothing wrong with the Athena aside from crappy primaries.
But the afterburner supply was so huge it was great for running back and forth after large ships.

The main thing I used it for was a Stilleto Bomber.
Disable and disarm a cain or lillith and knock out turrets like mad.

Didn't matter that it couldn't pack a major torpedo, it was a heavy fighter more than a bomber.

If an Ursa had that kinda afterburner duration who would use the Boa?
