Title: Today's random student exploits
Post by: diamondgeezer on September 23, 2002, 12:24:24 am
OK, today the student bar at the halls we lived in last year opened, so we went along for cheap drink and straight-out-of-college first year birds, etc. One guy was driving, but we couldn't all fit in the jam jar, so Big Gay Mike elected to ride in the boot. It was a little odd, but it worked.

Back at the gaff, we decided that, since it was Slim Jim's birthday (he's 24, and officially the oldest man in Leicester), he should be bound hand and foot with gaffer tape. We then dumped him across the street, before deciding to give him to some random metalers who apparently live down the road from us. They invited us in but then untied Jimbo, who, naturally, wanted revenge, forcing us to run away. However, we later compensated by stealing all their chairs.

All in all, not a bad evening's work.

Since this thread represents student life already....

Damned University. You'd think I'd learn after a year not to actually expect them to give us information... up at 7.30 this morning for a lab that was cancelled and then waiting four hours for a lecture that lasted 10 minutes, in between all this the love of my life slips out my hands. *hand hovers over large red button marked "nuke Glasgow"* Hmm... *hand slides away again*

:(  :nervous:

Haha. That's nothing. My pal went to Benidorm for 2 weeks. He came back and found he'd missed some exams. He was thrown out of college. He told this really friggin hot girl he didn't want to go out with her and went round to this 26 year olds house who he'd been seeing for the past few days since he got back. Soon as he saw her she dumped him (she'd found out he was only 17, and he was on his way to confess to her). So he's in a pretty ****ty mood by now. He goes to work at like 6pm and finds out that apprently his holiday time from his crappy super-market job was never approved, so he's fired. By this time his mother had found out about his 26 year old GF and started having a go at him as soon as he walked through the door. He went mental at her and his dad threw him out.

So, me, him and this other guy are walking to the other guys house and it dawns upon us that he's still got his health. We mention this to him mere seconds before he almost gets nailed by a car.

So we stay the night at the other guys place.

Now this is where things get really wierd. The next morning we awake to the sound of Mr Unlucky's mobile phone. He answers it and it's the 26 year old. She's reconsidered and wants to talk with him later that day. Nice way to start the day. We then decide to go see if he can talk his way back into college. He goes in to the principals office and gives him allthis crap about his aunt dying and they let him back in, all the same course, all the same classes, all without punishment. It was at this point we decided that fate/God/whatever really was just ****ing with him. He decided to press his luck and go talk to his parents. We get to the door and his mother's stood there looking so happy to see him (we'd been drinking heavily the previous night and looked like ****), she think's he's spent the night in the gutter and welcomes him back with open arms. We then proceed to his place of work and find that he cannot have his job back. But on the way out of the shop as we prepare to part ways until later, he notices this sign in the grocers window "Wanted Experienced Shop Staff", so he goes in and comes out 10 minutes later with an easier job with better hours and better pay. This is where we parted ways until later that night when we were going to go on another night of binge drinking. It'd gotten to like 11pm and still no Mr Unlucky. So we give up and go drinking without him. The next morning we catch up with him and we're like "Where the hell were you last night?". Turns out he was round his 26 year old girlfriends house 'making up'.

I've seen some very strange things in my time but none have ever come close to the down-right strangeness of those two days.

I have not started doing university applications much yet; at the moment I am trying to decide between UMCP and MIT but have not really come to a conclusion there. UMCP is close by so I can continue to live right here, still ranks among the top 10 or so, and most importantly, is much cheaper for Maryland state residents. MIT is generally regarded as being the best or second-best in math and physics, so a degree from there will mean a lot, but the $30k/year tuition fees are insane.

Of course, I will be doing both BA and Phd in pure math. ;7 (probably a second one in philosophy as well, but that's a bit later)

Looks like they need to hire more guys there... (which should be easy for them, considering how much money these universities take from us students :mad2: )

CPS - i wasn't aware Mathematics was a Batchelor of Arts course, i figured it was a science :p

yeah, but they still call it Bachelor of Arts no matter what the subject is. :p (I think; could be wrong here) Although in my opinion, math is not only an art, but the purest form of art out there. :D

bah.

art is subjective ;P

having said that, mathematics is still only an abstraction of reality and therefore *could* be counted as an art in a strange kind of way, but IMO the link is a tenuous one.

Hmm.... it's a 2 semester class at Strath.  Lecturers an utter nutcase, too.  It's no bad, really, in retrospect.  but if it's anyhting like my course, you'll hate it :) ;) :p

That's what I see it as too; even all the other forms of conventional "art" just draw ideas from things that exist materially (paintings, music, etc. are almost always related to soemthing that lies in common human experience), but math is fully abstract. ;7 :D
