Title: When was the last time you actually PLAYED freespace
Post by: Stunaep on September 23, 2002, 02:00:16 pm
so, it looks like that most people here focus on moding the game, but there is a Magnificent, Superbus, Ultra Power Voice Acted, Uber-Well played Single player component included, which is, surprise, surprise, named the Main Freespace 2 Campaign.

So my question is, when did you last play FS2 Main campaign, and heard the wonderful voice acting of Robert Loggia, and the Disco guy, who played the part of our wonderfully stupid, Allied Command.

Finished the campaign for the 40th something time just yesterday. :D

Although I tend to spend more time these days just testing/debugging my own missions.

Only fourty?

When I got my non-pirated copy of FS2 (only ripped game I've considered good enough to buy the original), I played through it 5 times in a row.

Trouble is, you cannae play the main campaign if you're screwing with the tbls cos it gets upset. And don't anybody tell me to do a double install of FS2, cos I won't.

you can always rename the data folder. Making a .bat to do that, is easy enough.

Just make an empty data folder and rename the one you're using for mods to something like 'moddata'  That's what I do, I've got about 5 seperate data folders for various mods.

Danm it Stu! You beat me to it!

Finished it again last night :)

Finished it (for the first time) about two weeks ago; I only got it a week before that.  'Twas very cool.

Although I've had the FS1 DVD for about a year, and have finished the Great War about four times now - all while working on my campaign (for FS1  )

Got sick of it about the tenth time around last year. Haven't played the main campaign since I discovered MODing.  I now play the fs1 main campaign ported to fs2. I have extracted the voice from fs1, so I get that, the weapons ani's, music, and briefing icons. the bets experience ever.

Finished it last week, and started on Derelict(again...)

I put the old shockwave.ani in the game, looks cool, I like the old one better than the new one(weird huh?)

Me too. The new one just looks kind of weird. I actually think some of the weapons look better without the glows, like fs1.

EDIT: Have you done all this?
Put the fs1 opening cutscene in fs2.
Installed the fs1port.
Used the fs1 interface icons, and animations.
Put the fs1 music into fs2.
Put the fs1 effects into fs2.
Extracted the voice from the fs1.vp's.

That is the ultimate Freespace>Freespace2 experience.

Thanx to Galactic Emperor for the missions!!!

Was working on FS1 until this weekend, when a certain jackass tried hiding my CDs in order to be irritating. As soon as I break his arm and find them, I'll be playing again.

I am waiting for bumpmapping before I play FS2 all the way through again. But I played FS1 again through the FS2 engine.

I haven't played the main campaign since about 3 months ago, when my PC was in the shop and I played it on my old PC (now sold on.....)...I've only completed it once, and that was before I joined the VBB (when I got a new gfx card which wasn't auto-detecting....it's a long and dull story).  to be fair, I have that much crap in my data folder it's near impossible to play the main camp.

Mostly, I've been testing the Casualties of War missions over the last  week or so.

It would take you about 2 minutes to rename your old data directory (and any extrainious .vp's) and make a new one with empty drawers. So don`t blame your inability to play FS2 on that. Blame the fact that you probably like making mods more than playing the game :p
That said I think I like making missions more than playing other peoples :D

I haven't played it (the main campaign) in a month or so, if only cause I got StarCraft.  No, I haven't been playing it for a month yet, only two weeks.  I have no idea how many times I've played it through... Many, many times, that's for sure.  My favorite mission is the one that starts with Snipes yelling "DIVE DIVE DIVE, HIT YOUR BURNERS PILOT!"  It made me jump the first time I played it.  It was late at night, and the speakers where on loud.

Aah, this is something unforgettable. I jumped the first three times I played the mission. I forgot about the Dive thing, when I played it for the second and third time.

****, I haven't played FS in like two years.  I think I started the Warzone campaign but never finished it.

I only uninstalled both FS1 and FS2 about two or three months ago.

It's been a while since i've played Freespace, but i play a lot of Freespace 2 (not the main game, but campaigns and MODs for people).

i still don't know how to beat the last mission on FS2 (where you're escorting an orion)... that was like 2 months ago.

i went through the entire campaign (and all the "loop"s) on medium without dying once, and i got to this mission and died, so i stopped playing (i haven't played it again since, but i've got to try sometime)

i played for like 5 hours straight, went all through the campaign.  it was fun.  i can't wait to see the end-game cutscene though...

Clash of the Titans II isn't that last mission. Apocolypse is. Anyways, you don't save Capella. Capella is destroyed by the fleet of Juggernauts, remember? They should have called the Dreadnauts, Juggernaut doesn't sound like a ship.

Oh what these eyes have seen! :D:D

As for playing FS2, I've not played it properly for a while. I've been too busy arsing around with new models, weapons and stuff.

BTW - has anyone cheated in the main campaign by making one of the crapper and little-used weapons super powerful?

I think you jump out at a certain time in the last mission, and it lets you accept an end the campaign.

One of the shivan ships that are destroyed in the last mission is a Cain class cruiser. The thing is, that if that Cain, ISN'T destroyed, the supernova never occurs.

Yeah, it always occured twelve minutes and some odd seconds into the mission.
Title: When was the last time you actually PLAYED freespace
Post by: karajorma on September 29, 2002, 10:04:06 am
Look at the mission in FRED. It definately requires that the resheph and the sesmu are either destroyed or departed. Both are Ma'at class freighters. If you can managed to accidently disable one and then protect it against the shivans you can prevent the supernova.

There are other ways too. Libra wing must be present and they only appear when the Bane and Melchom are destroyed. Disable and disarm them and you can again prevent the supernova.

The last condition is that the supernova always starts 710 seconds after the start of the mission. Since the other conditions are usually already met by that time the supernova would appear to occur at the same time exactly.

Post by: JudgeMental on September 30, 2002, 11:17:09 am
Hmm...  I wonder why this was done...  Perhaps an easter egg from the mission designers?  If not, why not just have the time condition?
