I haven't been able to find anyone else with a problem like this, so I hope you guys can help me.
I can't set the resolution higher than 640x480. The launcher won't detect anything higher than that. I've tried editing the system registry, getting new drivers (40.81) and using the FS2 Open .EXE, with the GF4FIX command. Nothing works. I still don't get higher resolution, no matter what I do.
Here are my system specs:
Pentium 4 1.4 GHz
640 MB PC-800 RDRAM
eVGA GeForce4 Ti 4400
40 GB 7200 RPM Western Digital HDD
Windows XP Home Edition (running Freespace 2 under Win98 compatibility mode)
Does anyone know what might be causing this?

I've heard of this before, not sure what the problem is.
Fortunately DX8 is on the way so it may not be a problem for too long. if you go to my tester site you will find an early edition DX8 fs2_open. If you like you can check it detects your mode properly.

Did you actually install the Hi res data when you installed FS2? There's a small paragraph about this problem in my FAQ's technical Questions section
-
Thats true, if you dont install the high res stuff you dont get the 1024 option.
-
Thats true, you need to install it. But i got a GF4 and it works great.
Why are you running FS2 with Win 98 compability?
I got Win XP Proffesional and it works ok, and i dont have to change it.
-
Havent had any trouble with it on any of my systems, most recently some equipped with GF4 Ti cards. Did you install the hi-res pack when you installed the game?
-
2 things:
Hi-res setting requires the hi-res texie pack. You did install it, didn't you?
And: under XP, don't bother with running it under 98 compatibility unless you start having serious errors cropping up. (I don't have any examples because, quite honestly, I've never encountered any)
-
Could darkwarrior confirm that this problem is just due to not installing the hi res pack?
If thats not it, its a bug and we need to fix it.
I can give you a test exe to test if you will have the same
problem with the DX8 upgrade.
