Title: Song for Setekh
Post by: Sandwich on September 26, 2002, 07:07:42 am
I was listening to this song when it hit me that it perfectly represents what many of us feel about the whole Return of the Steak thing... ;) So, without further ado:

Third Day - It's Alright (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/qm/pub/sandwich/third_day_its_alright.mp3) (4.8Mb)

[q]
It's Alright

Lyrics by Mac Powell/Music by Third Day
From the recording: Come Together, Track #6.

Your letter said that you were leaving
But you didn't know how long
I have never stopped believing
That one day you would return
And though waiting is the hardest
Part of everything I do
I do confess it's getting better
Knowing I will be with you

Chorus:
It's alright
It's okay
I won't worry about tomorrow
For it brings me one more day
Closer than I was to you

Now the question isn't "will you"
What I want to know is "when"
If it's one day or a million
I will wait for you 'til then
So I'm holding on to your words
And the promises you've made
There is not one you have broken
There's not one I didn't take

Your letter said that you were leaving
But you didn't know how long
I will never stop believing
I know one day you will return
[/q]

WRONG.

HLP was a team effort of Shrike, Thunder, and Setekh.

he didn't go about this alone, but you all are making him out to be some demi-god.

it's pathetic.

GTA Marine#1 : Sir, the duct tape won't hold, its beginning to peel at the edges....

*light bursts through as thread doors swing open, an0n stands alone holding a flamethrower and a lurker's head*

Marine#2: All units, pull back - we've got a flame war breaking out of the threads!

*fade to grey* ;)

Sorry, UT, not stealing ur idea, this just seemed appropriate.

affection/respect/whatever is good but taken too far it can be received negatively.. everyone keep that in mind :)

I've got an idea! Why don't we all get black/camouflage gear, go to Steak's house, break in and watch him while he sleeps. Then we can steal his underwear, frame it and put it on display in the templ...err....'club-house'.

*runs for cover*

What you seem to forget is that Sadwich is not only a member of these forums, he is a very close personal friend of Setekh. I don't believe that showing your friendship categorizes as "worship"...

Now slow it down, by now you should have realized I've been on a locking mood lately. ;)

Meh - it wasn't something I went hunting for - I was just listening to music, and while this song was playing, it occurred to me that it fit quite well with the whole Steak Phenomenon ( ), so I decided to share it. If I had composed the thing, I would have said that it's dedicated to him. But I didn't, so it's not.

And I really don't get all the n00bs who joined up after Setekh left (end of April, if you must know) and act as if they know him. Not saying it's bad that they know about him, of course, but.... ahhh, whatevers. :blah:

Edit: The song...well, I've heard better, and I've certainly heard worse, to be quite honest. But the mood of the song is pretty good, IMHO.

Nice song, goes well with certain feelings.

I don't think anyone is really worshipping him, and if you see the cards as that then :wtf:

i guess he's gone for now so there wasn't really a reason in the birth day thread or whatever. but sometimes it just feels right...  oh well.

As for the n00b thing.. i heard of him from vBB back when i joind ed in Feb. I came here when vBB kicked the bucket, so i only "knew" him for 20 days or so, but his work was great, and he was a really cool guy. Sucked to see him go..

that bout' sums it up.

I think this entire situation is farcical at best. Now before I get flamed off my chair let me just say I admire Setekhs rendering more than anyone - being someone who's tried to capture the same level of engagement (to the viewer).

However, it seems that the "Steak Phenomenon" has spiralled into the rediculous. At first it was fun, I could sit and make the odd comment about "gee, his renders sure are good" or "so thats one of the old ones". Now, its just silly - with mass posting's talking about Setekh. I don't mean any disrespect to what you did Sandwich, its your right your his friend, but like I said many of the other threads or comments are just spurious. Now, we all agree - Steak was a great guy who was part of the group that made this forum, and he was a good artist, and a fs2 fan... etc. Can we also agree that if he saw half these threads he, like any human being, would get a bit freaked out? I don't know the man but I know how I'd feel.

Just try to make things a bit less melodramatic everyone, ok?

*sits back down in corner and drinks calming herbal tea* Damn, this tastes foul.
