Just decided to browse the 3D ship gallery on Freespace2.com, and guess what? MetaStream has been bought by somebody and the format isn't supported anymore. I also decided to look at the community links; a futile exercise in nostalgia...
-
Metastream has been gone for almost a year now... did you notice the UBB wasn't there anymore either??
-
Are there ANY on the link list that're still active?
-
I say that we email :v: and ask them to take the site down or something.
-
or refashion it so it directs people to the last bits of the FS community.. here and Vwatch :)
-
wow...Descent Chronicles and Ross 128; that was quite a while ago...
-
/me has nostalgic memories of both
Descent Chronicles was actually my favorite FS/FS2 fansite back then.... :) (and I check planetfreespace and ross 128 basically every day)
-
Are we here at HLP the last of a dying breed? Geez, I'm starting to feel like a dinosaur after the meteor hit...
It's enough to make me want to stick my head in a tar pit...

don't worry, we won't try to stop you. In fact... we encouage you... I was told its always healthy to encourage people with their goals.
-
Ross128 was bassically the Pre- HLP right? or was it different in some way?
-

Sort of... we had all kinds of unique stuff that nobody else had come up with at the time. However it wasn't really a branded "mod dedicated" FS site, it was just a FS Site. Perhaps the largest part of the mods section was my offshoot - Ikeya. Loads of backgrounds and nebulas and stuff.
That was back in the day when only a few people knew how to mod FS... good times. HLP is much larger though.
-
well, for a low-selling 3year-old game we have a rather large community, do we not?
-
We're prolly the biggest FS/FS2 forum/website on the net.
and it's a pity that FS2.com is down :(...maybe :v: is just making room for a FS3.com ;7
Hmmm....that'd be wicked...
*dreams about FS3 and what it might look like*

Keep dreaming kid. There's a 99.99925% chance it ain't ever gonna happen.

FS2.com should have a VolitionWatch link... since Volitionwatch still gets updated
and we're going to get a kick-ass website in a few weeks :)
-
Descent Chronicles was back in the day. Jeez I remember being at R128 when it started and then switching over to PFS way back when.
Really, R128/Ground FreeSpace to me seem like the soul-cousins to HLP when it started. Current HLP is much more like Descent Chronicles was except DC IMHO had a much more snazzy look to it.
-
DC was famous for its mission archive though, right? I think that this archive is now at VW...
-
i remember the last pic of the week ever on Ross128. a bastion strutting it's stuff.

Yup...it came over with Remmy and Orange when they joined me and Wild on Volition Watch.

Here it is I uploaded it because whether it is available or not at Viewpoint (Use to be MetaStream) I believe I also had problems with that in the past...Copyright to them as well
http://www.freewebs.com/iserver/MetaStream.exe
Enjoy! ;)
Note: The download will only work using the browser save target feature, no d/l progs work!
