Post by: Stunaep on September 27, 2002, 03:04:38 pm
I haven't made any non-animation renders for a while, so I thought, now would be the time. So this is what I have cooked up: (http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/lmarshal/RenderNebula.jpg)

soo??

[edit] oh yay.:sigh:  Well, should be fixed.

well heres my critisism:

1) The nebula looks very dull... no clouds or anything... its just blue... work on that
2) Fighter needs motion blur
3) Beam is in the wrong spot (its on the sides of the engine, not directly above)
4) What are those dulled out circles in the middle?

Er...Vader...it's glare from the beam, just to tell ya!

I like it, could use with a bit more...activity in it though, like having that lilith firing it's beam at the diemos(is it a diemos  )

oh also: NICE FARKIN BEAM MAN! :eek2: looks a bit ancient-ish to me, with the purple in it.

1) Point taken. I'm thinking of lightning and stuff right now.
2) Fighter has motion blur
3)eh... it is on the side.
4) never mind. I'll improve on that.

very well. I'll get to work on improving that tomorrow. I'll add some... eh... stuff to the nebula, and well, do stuff.

Ashrak, I use MAX.

He uses a glow, you can tell by the glitch in the beam.

This how I do it (which is what Venom suggested to me......)

1/ Make a RENDERABLE spline
2/ Give it a white map with self-illumination, and give it an object ID (for the next bits)
3/ Create a video post 'lens effect glow' event (coloured white) for the white core
4/ Create a larger, different coloured (eg blue) VP glow for the outside
5/ tweak to get the right look

Easy peasy, although it'll take a few goes to get it perfect.... i'm still learning.  Lasers and beams both use this, except lasers are smaller splines (i.e. completely visible), and beams always have the spline's end attached to the relevant turret.

Its nice, but I'd bring the opacity on the text down a bit and fade the node-map edges a bit more. :)

Not green text, I would reccomend ether putting the text on a background, or changing it to something that isn't so close to the nebula. I would recomend orange or yellow to stand out a bit more...just not green...
