Beams may be closer than we think! ;)

100Kw does.......well, dick. You need Gw range lasers to do anything cool.
-
100kw laser? Lol, that couldn't melt butter. You need at least multi-megawatt power supplies to melt steel.
-
actually send a burst up the enemies thrusters he can kiss his ass goodbye.

*reads article about dissipating heat into fuel tank*
Umm, not that I'm forcasting doom here but...
BOOM!!! :D
I personally think it's a bad idea, I would develop some kind of dissipation vane system and put it back between the tail fins, or along the spine of the aircraft.

I must agree with the rest of you here in that this does not seem very praqctical in its current state. The problem is that it takes an incredible amount of energy to generate even a mildly powerful laser, so at the moment that system is still somewhat inefficient.
-
interesting can it track a missle......

So was the petrol engine at one time. :) Now look at the mileage you can get! :D Just give it a couple of years - the tech is here, it just needs to be refined.
-
Still, the kind of energy that needs at the moment can be used to fire off a thousand ICBMs. :D
Of course, I'm just as sure as you are that the system will be perfected over time; they all have. ;)

sounds like it'll cause more damage to the fighter fireing it than it's target, in it's current form
but still
FIGHTER BEAMS!!!!!

Always with the fighter-beams

They better beam-free-all the craft before sending them into combat... :D
